    Because when I turn it on, many default MS applications break? I have an Athlon64, so I can tell the feature is working as it's supposed to, but hell, rundll32.exe won't even run when trying to access control panel stuff. And yes, I have a clean copy of the program.
    WTF is the point of putting in that security if the system doesn't work afterwards?

    Still, you're relying on the DNS of apple.com being correct. The root domain.
    The problem comes when apple.com loads images from images-apple.com or something that's a separate domain, rather than simply a sub-domain.

    This is true iif (if and only if) there are no weaknesses in the hashing algorithm. If there are, then we start running into a much, much smaller solution space that's necessary to search.

    He's got a point, but he's assuming many, many things.

    Ever considered using a Linux machine with Samba as your PDC? That'd mitigate a lot of the cost, depending on how complicated of a network you have.

    Rather have them say "Central Processing Unit's" or "MPEG, Layer 3's"? Oh, I know, "Moving Picture Expert Group, Audio Compression Level 3 files"! ATM's? Are they also bad? The acronym is treated as a word because many people only know it as such. It's a sign of the times, a compression of information into a comprehensible unit.

    Phosphor, and no, those are just ways of using the colors. RGBCMY and K are all just colors. The display device is what determines whether it's additive or subtractive.

    The problem is that the windows were closed when the people bought the computer. Or they at least thought they were. No one has told them that this has changed, and it's not like they care/understand. All they know is that they want the content available on the intarweb.

    Not much of a tech, are you? It's actually pretty easy to find those files if you know what you're doing, then delete them either from a boot disk or safe mode, something. And it usually saves the user the pain of reinstalling all 500 or so apps, as well as all their data.
    And, FYI... it's been XP I've had to solve these problems with lately. XP is no panacea, even with all the service packs and patches.

    Did the author of that page (or you) ever consider the president BEFORE the one who posted all those gains? 4 years makes a difference, but not a huge one. We're still seeing backlash from things Clinton and even the first Bush did. Get a clue.

    Perhaps. Some of his proof in the article is a little contrived though. That 'simple' table of his is anything but. You can't get trends or relationships out of it without significant work. What would be better is to have a CORRECT graph relating the matters. Something that I can analyze visually.
    Yes, raw data has it's place, and many time the effects and flash-bang gee-whiz of PP is used as a replacement for actual content in a presentation. But not always. Power Point is better than using overhead projectors in many cases.

    Oh, I'd almost guarantee you that I'm as smart, if not smarter than they are. I just don't devote the time to it that they do, and don't have some of the same information. Intelligence has nothing to do with it, it's the drive. The layers are a good idea because I don't want to spend the same amount of time as they do on it.

You get the good AND bad parts of it together, sweetie. Take it or leave it.
    Once you stop with the double-standard, things may start changing.

    I agree wholeheartedly. I'm a programmer because I can do it. I still love teaching and children, though. I get along with them. But you've never really felt undeserved shame unless you've had a parent hovering over you while you were talking to their child. I'm not sure what a child molester does, but I doubt that he's terribly forward about where he lives, his name, where he works, etc. Even after talking to their parents for quite a while, I still get funny looks and hovering, like people can't believe that a single male living alone might simply enjoy interacting with and teaching kids, and not have any ulterior motives.

    As an aside, I refuse to buy any "For Dummies" or "For Idiots" books, because I don't believe I am either.
    I'm perfectly capable of understanding most anything, give me a reference manual or a "for beginners" type of book. I'm not dumb simply because I don't have the information. I'm dumb if I'm not able to absorb the information.

    Manual isn't more difficult to drive, and it affords you a certain level of control over the vehicle that an automatic transmission just cannot. Why do you think race cars don't have automatic transmissions?

    Did anyone else notice the color correction that was going on in those pictures as well? It shaped the color redistribution so the movie looked normal on a checkerboard curtain... not to mention accounting for the irregular shape of the surface. The combination of those two features is amazing. You have always been able to keystone, but if you have, say, a painting on the wall and don't want to take it down every time you watch a movie...

    I suppose so. My point was rather than I deserved the trust, and I know my father is the type of person who if he had any reason to think I'd do something stupid, he'd say 'no'. I don't have any tickets, I've never been in any accidents that were my fault, and I've avoided quite a few that wouldn't have been my fault anyway. He knows this, and trusts me to make good decisions because of it. The remainder of the comment was in reference to the people who are simply gullible because it's THIER little angel, there is no way they could do anything wrong, who can't see the forest for the trees. Probably should have explained that better ;)
