Are you being sarcastic? The pr0n industry has been at the forefront (no pun inteneded) of home video tech since the VCR. As much as this counrty tries to present itself as Puritanical downhome homebodies; money talks & bs walks. The guy that sits across from me at work, & a good friend (they both used to work for the clearinghouse companies) have told me that the #1 state for pr0n video on demand rentals is good ole puritanical Utah.
Basically, pr0n users will lead the way, & the asses, literally will follow.* So the choice of format by the pr0n industry is very important to both camps.
*My apologies to Mr. Brown & EnVogue.
hmmm I see you have never been to Atlanta, GA. My commute is just over 39.5 miles 1 way. This is backing out of my garage & driving (via the shortest route...if there are lots of accidents I take alternative & longer routes) to the parking spot that I always park in. Many people here live in Alabama, Tennesee, Aagusta, Ga & as far south as Macon & beyond. When I was still in the service, one of my fellow NCO's (a native Georgian who just stayed at home with mommy) commuted just over 100 miles 1 way. It is quite common here.
I think those are all models at least 2 years (or more old). My original Sony DVD player can not play CD-R's, but my 300 disc Megachanger (bought from the same Best Buy on the same day) can. It even reads the CD-Text messages. My newer (last summer) Sony 5-disc DVD/SACD player can, of course, not only deal with CD-R, but CD-RW & all of the DVD flavors except DVD-RAM.
The got spun off into a company named Agilent. The make some of the best damn SDH/SONET Add-Drop test sets in the world. However at about 185,000 USD my company wants to replace the 20 or so we have with freaken' BRTU's!:( Damn I hate Heikemian.
Actually Mr Sony has what you want. The buzz letters are something like WRX. LCD (projection) at about 10,000 USD. From what I read of people who were at the most recent CES, this set is better than anything before; professional or private.
Finally. Some "Truth" about this issue. The question is, do we support welfare for old people (I do) or not? If we don't, then just pick some ending date & screw anybody after. If we do, then we need to bite the "bullet" & pay for it.
I think he alluding to the Michigan/Ohio football rivalry. Some peeps in Columbus (at that particular time of the year) would love to keep them out (assuming the game is in Ohio stadium). Hell I'm from Ohio & once when I was a freshman (@ Ohio University in Athens) we drove to High Street (to go to White Castle actually) & then tried to steal that "Best Damn Band in The Land" (or whatever the hell it says) wrought iron applica right off of the stadium (it's welded on there pretty tight).
What the incumbenet telco's will tell you; stranded costs. The real reason is more likely that they have to keep "showing" growth in revenue & earnings in order to remain attractive to their stockholders. Backbone wise, there is more than enough unlit fiber to give blanket, say 20 to 30Mbs residential coverage (I am assuming that your post replies to home use) already. The problem is they are not interested in selling B/W, although I suspect that many/. want reliable, low latency B/W & nothing else. Unfortunately, just selling B/W is not very fun for the marketers & all those other business types who don't really do anything. No the telco's are much more interested in selling "services" that they can charge on a per use basis. As a side note to this question, Verizon has comitted to FTTH in their regional area to the tune of several billion USD. So we can only hope, can't we!?!:)
ender81b what part of the world would that be? I work for a large (we are in the top 5) telecommunications provider in North America. We recently negotiated a 24 month contract for several Oc-192's. The per Oc-3 trib cost is less than 1000 USD per month. Even when we have to buy "on the spot" circuits in the Asia Pacific region 8000 USD/month for just a DS-3 is just too much.
You jogged my memory. I'm at work & I knew that there was a little program that would do this becuase I bought it several years ago. Neoworks, of course, is it. I think I still have a copy (& the paid for reg key) at home & I will probably give it a go this evening.
Well yes (IMHO). SS was also one of my favorites (it was the first Marvel graphic novel that I ever bought...around 83 or so) I made joke eralier in this thread, but I really would like to see ROM, The Avengers (both East & West Coast & Nick Fury in particular) , more of the X-men (& especilly X-men villians. Damn it would be good to see that guy who controlled ship).
Lets see, there is Venom (maybe in Spidey-3?), Sandman, The High Evolutionary, The Wraiths, Agatha Harkness, Her, Prince Namor-the Sub Marnier, & a host of other characters/titles that escape my memory rihgt now. In short I would like to relieve my childhood hobby of collecting comincs (yes, I had an orignal FF #7 & my mother threw it awat!!!!) & see how they translate into "real life".
I would pay a hunderd bucks to see an accurate real life Galactus (& not just his hand or something). How 'bout a little scene where The High Evolutionary & Galactus go at it? Or where the Hulk bends the Surfers' board, or maybe the scene where Reed Richards announces that, "Galatctus MUST LIVE!". (see how that ties into th end of the last X-men movie, what whith Dark Phoenix & all, tee-hee)
The tie-in to other Marvel properties could be enourmous. Does anybody know if the Avengers are coiming to the big screen? The Scarlett Witch would be freaken' huge....(breasted that is).
Actually if I had my druthers, I would want Lucas to make ROM right now.:)
For some reason I 'cant rembmer the name but I have a $12 8-in-1 (what the hell is the name of those "in-1 remotes) from Wal Mart that controls my 301 just fine. Got to Sattelite Guys US or DBStalk & have a look around or jut register & ask.
It is DRM for digital HDTV/EDTV content. In other words a broadcaster can set the flag so that a digital recording device will not record, only record once (to that particuler device) or record at some degraded quality level. If my memory is correct, digital recording devices will HAVE to be able to see/understand the boradcast flag or just default to "no recording".
The interesting thing will be what the Chines/other manufacturers who do not (for the most part) respect DRM produce.
As far as leasing, I think they still charge the exact same amount per month as if you had the box. Also, none of the cable companies (official) guides work (as of yet) & you loose the (easy) pay-per-view. It's the pay-per-view aspect that the cable companies hate. However, they are working on it, becaause then they can dump the likes of Scientific Atlanta & Motorola (cable boxes), et al, but still charge you out the ying-yang.
HOw about Regional Bell OPerating Company..or RBOC. This more implies (IMHO) the fact that at one time AT&T was , literaly, the lay of the land. Also as in you explanation you touch lightly on the stranded cost issue (which is going to be the REAL killer).
Quick Quiz. After the 1996 court-mandated breakup there were 5 RBOC's.(GTE does not count) PacBell, Southern Bell, Bell Atlantic, Western Bell, & SBC/Ameritech Who knows how many are left (Yes this is a trick question)
You mentioned that large downloads can cause the VoIP to be less than stellar. What about the other way around? I have DSL for one reason only. Loweset latency that I can afford. Does the VoIP kill your latency? For me, anything that makes me have greater than (say 70ms) to my favorite Q3 servers is a no go. That's why I kill peer to peer (& anything else that's going on) on my home network while I'm gaming.

Ok it you KNOW I meant left & not right &b yes I did not use the preview..so nyah, nyah, nyaaah, nyah. I did not say planned I said groundwork. The autobahn's were going nowhere fast (look mommy, I made a pun:)) until he put some real money behind it.
DC has too much congestion (IMHO) to be make a fair comparison. Every now & then, here in the ATL, they try to crack down on the average speed of aboaut 75-80. It lasts all of about a week or so & then we are right back to what appears to be the "natrual speed". Worst drivers would have to be Korean Taxi drivers in Seoul. The sidewalk (& trucks heavily loaded down with live chickes) are fair game.
The AutoBahn is safer (time to invoke Goodwin..you do know that it was Herr Hitler (at the request of the Gud Doktor Porsche) who laid the groudwork for that fabulous piece of engineering) because it was contrcuted with high speeds in mind, Germans, on the whole, actually obey the law & only pass on the right & last but most important, German citizens who drive must pass (& pay for the rigorous instruction needed) a serious driving test. Furthermore they keep their machines in good working order. The only broken down cars on the Autobahn belong to American soldiers (I know 'cause I was one of them:))
I had a 1990 Dodge Shadow, with a 2.5L 4cl that could do 130mph (maybe downhill on that BIG hill on Autobahn 8 between K-Town & Manhiem) & I got tailed by an older BurgerMeister for miles because he was not going to pass my on the right FOR ANY REASON.
Being passed by high speed exotic (& not so exotic...you would be amazed at how fast a Mitsubishi Gallant station wagon can go...in the rain!) machines doing what they were menat to do was actually kind of fun (IMHO)!
