I wonder if with all the last minute stuff going on at Lucas Film right now, whether anyone would notice if they forgot to make the opening titles crawl up the screen and just stuck that gif up there by accident.
That would really put a dent in the look and feel of Star Wars III.
Why are Xvid proponents so fucking condescending? One pseudoswot even told me to Google xvid to find the installer when I indicated that because an xvid file wouldn't open on my Mac, PC or Linux box I doubted it would have much of a chance in the "real world" when joe normal clicks on it and nothing happens.
Is Xvid the Ogg Vorbis of video codecs now? Millions and millions of posts about Xvid every time someone asks for an alternative to wmv?
If Xvid is so cool stick it up your ass and see if it plays up there!
"Speaking of wasting time, I think my Slashdot break has gone on long enough."
Not as long as mine...I own my own business so I get to read the whole thing. Which brings me to my pet "Wish I'd Know This In School" peeve, which is why didn't anyone, not even my parents, tell me that I could actually start my own business and not have to necessarily go and get a job working for someone else.
During the last year of the English equivalent of high school, me and my classmates would go to the career counselling officer for lessons on how to get a job. We'd also take day trips local businesses and watch people we'd seen in the year above ours working at their little desks or operating machinery. We even took a few trips to local coal mines which really freaked me out (Anyone seen Kes? that was me).
Luckily I was interested in playing music - joined a couple of local bands - moved to London - joined a band that toured the World - moved to the Pacific NW - got a life - and managed get the hell out of the cycle of horrible, depressing life I was faced with, but it really needn't have been that way.
How about one single hour a week about how to start your own business. Or how to handle money that your business will generate, or marketing your business, Etc Etc Etc. instead there was nothing. It was ALL about how to get a job.
Needless to say we all knew that the rich kids at the private school down the road were being taught how to hire losers, or how to stay rich, so there was never any real mystery as to why things were the way they were, but I still feel sorry for my classmates.
Anybody who risks voiding their warranty taking apart an iPod should really take the time to set white balance, if possible, so we don't end up looking at yellow versions of what I'm sure is a brilliant white object.
That said, I really appreciate people taking the time pulling this stuff apart. Bravo.
When I watched this launch I remember wondering what I'd be doing in January 2005. It seemed like so far in the future back in 1997. Meanwhile that spaceraft has been getting further and futher away from us, travelling thousands of miles an hour, and now we're only a few hours from touchdown on a distant moon.
If I don't piss myself laughing during the bit when they're talking about putting gold in the trunk and 12 friends in the back seat of his car to stop it from fishtailing I'll be pissed (sic).
That was one of THE funniest things I've ever read book.
The second funniest thing I've ever read was when they're trying to figure out the gears on a 12 speed bike.
"My GFs cousin works for Sun and at there Christmas party I was talking to her about it."

I think you're on the wrong board mate!

"I have had people who work in TV tell me that nobody tries to alienate any viewers, but I think it is more than clear that G4 wants TechTV viewers out and replace them with an MTV crowd."
You should read through the General Discussion boards over at Speed TV and hear what the viewers think about all the NASCAR that management of this FOX owned motor sports channel is pushing down their throats.
A recent poll on the boards shows over 80 percent of people who bothered to vote think there's way too much NASCAR being shown on the channel, yet management pulls a news show that covered all motor sports and is replacing it with a show called Nascar Nation!
Needless to say, the F1, WRC, Dakar Rally Etc Etc people are getting angry about this, but management continue to trot out the "it's America's favorite motorsport" and "but the ratings say people want more NASCAR".
It's the usual self fulfilling prophecy syndrome I'm afraid, like radio station playing Britney Spears over and over again until the kids forget there's anything else out there.
"Why'd they choose xvid? Maybe because MPEGs would be twice as big (or far lower picture quality)."
You must be talking about an MPEG-2 compliant video codec producing a file twice as big or far lower quality, but I was suggesting any number of other codecs could have been used which wouldn't have required me to track down software to play XviD, yet another in the long line of ISO MPEG-4 compliant video codecs that don't work with the most recent versions of QuickTime or Windows Media Player.
"Since apparently spending 30 seconds searching is too much to ask of you, here's how to play xvids:"
Why the hell they chose XVID to compress these movies I do not know. If they're going to risk life and limb serving up a trillion hits on this video they may as well use a codec people actually have installed.
Ah well, tar.zip binary source code interleaved forked tongues this and that here I come.
Drudge Report was what first alerted me at around 10:00PM PST (Seattle), then the BBC live feed and USGS. Nothing on the TV (Fox, CNN, Local) even as late as 1:00AM.
It it wasn't for the internet I wouldn't have known about this until this morning.
Are you posting this on behalf of a secret society of illiterates? Jeez, so I was totally misinformed about XM having no affiliations with ClearChannel, and live in hope of listening to Howerd Stern live on my iPod. Big Deal. Geat over it. Have fun with your Rio Grande XL
Maybe, shoulda, woulda waited until the Jan 2005 Macworld where I hear there may be an announcement that Apple is making the iPod compatible with Sirius.
Much better than listening to the crap pumped out by Clearchannel.
"and movie player (MPEG4s)"
That's the best bit. One less WMV player on the planet earth is a good thing IMHO.
That's what it always boils down to, stuff going around and around in circles.
you should ask loudeye corp about any watermarking, that's where apple gets their music from. they did last time i looked anyhow

how can people fall for this same old tired trick every single time? Maybe it's the same people who actually buy things from spam ads!

How totally exciting, to be here in the future
Why would you want to look up a guys skirt?

"I hear porn over SSTV is not uncommon. Not particularly intelligent either, but not uncommon."
Maybe that's what all the noise coming in from space is, alien porno!
Whoever figures out how to convert all that alien porn into earth porn would make billions!
Where do you guys copy and paste this stuff from?
"What does a VLBA cost?"
I'm guessing the sites cost $85 million to build and have an annual budget of $7 million!

It wouldn't be so bad but NASCAR is soooo boring.
If a pixel falls in an office and nobody is around to hear it fall, does it make a sound.

Dang, DC is doing worse than I thought.
