    This has all been weighed and considered by Hiro Nakamura.

    He decided that rather inflict Britney Spears upon the future it better to metaphorically all media from orbit.
    It was the only way to be sure.

    Nahhhhh bandwidth isn't that limited.
    Remember the core wiimote can handle an additional nunchuck or the classic controller, each of which requires more data than the small amount of data per frame required.

    If Nintendo wanted to do this anyway I believe they would use a custom device with its own interface (and would almost certainly retain the power connection the current sensor bar uses).
    There has been rumour that the next wii will be controller less, people simply acting out the actions to get results.
    This will be done via sophisticated processing of a normal image and not be limited to having to stick baubles onto our bodies.

    Having said that I am fascinated by this technology and find his 'hacks' amazing.

    Actually your suggestion would not work.

    google, youtube and slash are all high traffic sites where problems in coding generally gets cleaned up relatively quickly.
    Once you go "off-piste" and dive into hand crafted tagsoup sites with none standard makeup you lose the benefits that comes with an oft' walked path.

    but couldn't you get equivalent results by using OpenOffice locally and having some sort of syncing online? Or maybe figuring out a way to mount a remote volume and open/save documents directly to it?

    The advantage is crystal clear:

    You do not need to be a geek to setup the online version.

    Why not just simplify your entire comment:

    Content from a 3rd party runs in a more restrictive context than the primary site (this includes frames etc).
    You are then not held at the whim of a web admin to ensure these tags are included.

    Or you could just use the noscript addin right now and choose which sites you trust at your discretion.
