I'm a former resident of Germany and have been living in Canada for a couple of years now. I don't know if I should feel sad or fortunate and I can only imagine what kind of horrible implications this has. This course of action brings us a step closer to Orwellian dystopia.
Now that the shit has hit the fan and we are stepping backwards, the questions are: - What legislation will be able to get passed on in the future? - What kind of information will have to be stored in the future?
o Your financial transaction data?
o Your insurance data?
o Your academic career?
o Your social interaction patters?
o Your genealogy?
We're getting reamed up the butt and we ask if they want seconds. It's pathetic.
Seriously, would you rather type 120 characters than punching in CTRL+T TAB r u b y SPACE o n SPACE r a i l s ENTER TAB*17 ENTER? That's only 33 key presses and at the end you'll know what RoR is.
Don't tell me you're still sitting on you chair wondering. Gee.
If people are stupid, what makes you think that they'll return the stuff? If they planned on upgrading anyways, why don't they upgrade the whole crappy 300$ stereo system they had before?
"Well, you need new speakers and receivers." "Aww shucks, t'was time to upgrade anyways." *plonks down cc or cash*
Well, I suppose that if one invests hundreds of man-hours into a project without seeing it take off and accepted by a huge number of people, then one might tend to generalize that all similar projects are doomed to fail.
On the other hand, similar projects have been doing releases constantly and attracted a developer following of that the enlightenment community could only dream of.
Please don't understand me wrong. I am not bashing rasterman or the Enlightenment project. It just seems to me that the E. project has been making mistakes that they shouldn't have done; but I can't put my finger on what exactly they did wrong.:)

Call it Fight Club and you have a nice franchise on your hands.
Then don't make idiot-proof, make it idiot-friendly.
Amen to that!

I see a couple hundred approaches to a joke in your post! First come, first serve.

You've heard it here first, folks. Would you like spyware with that?
*three-letter-acronym

Okay, I admit. That was disgusting.

Which really just boils down to:
Be effective.
By swapping... floppies! :P
My hat's off to you. Great work.
Your fears have been fictionalized in "The Diamond Age, or: a young lady's illustrated primer", by Neal Stephenson. Read it. It's awesome.
