The difference is, unlike you, I expect people to take responsibility when they get ripped off because of their own stupidity. If you left your car (since you want to use that analogy) on a street corner with the keys in it and the engine running and it got stolen, I'd have no sympathy what so ever for you either. Whether stealing it is "right" or "wrong" is irrelevant...if you didn't use reasonable common sense to protect your property (take the keys out, lock the doors), you're an idiot.

If Abiword got ripped because of security hole in PayPal, PayPal should pay up, and I'll join the line of people writing nastygrams and canceling their PayPal accounts. However I have yet to see any indication that this is the case, at least in this instance.

But on the other hand, if Abiword got ripped because 147 people had the password, or the password was "sex" or something equally stupid, then Abiword should use what funds they have left to go purchase a fucking clue.

Some dork making a hundred grand a year is too out of touch with reality to represent the average American who is making 15 thousand a year. It should work like the Peace Corps...while you're in office, all you get is what the average American makes per year. Why bother using Microsoft components?

Well, for starters, and for me at least, the Microsoft components work and work reliably...that is not something I can say about Mozilla in my own experience.

I do not like Microsoft's tactics. I do not like thier latest round of changes to their "you give us the right to sleep with your sister" EULA. I want to switch to Mozilla, and have extensively tried to do so.

And Mozilla worked great...until it locked my machine so hard I had to shut the power off to reboot. And not just 1.0, it happened regularly in 1.1. And not just Windows XP, it happened regularly in Linux (Mandrake 8.2 and 9.0 RC1 and RC2).

And I'd like to point out that in Windows XP Mozilla holds a certain distinction in my experience...*NO* other program has caused my machine to lock up like that since I switched to XP Pro last year.

So my attitude is before I would even consider using Mozilla as an application base, its going to have to be able to function as a browser without crashing...and it can't even do that yet.
