    A typical data center employs about 100 people.

    If that. The last data center I worked at belonged to a major telco; two huge warehouse-style buildings with a multitude of different data centers within them. The most people I saw on-site at any one time was about 20.

    there were decades of unemployment, social strife and wars following the industrial revolutions.

    The WWI and WWII took literally tens of millions of people out of the labor pool; people seem to forget that little anecdote.
