For many AOL users AOL _is_ the internet. As more become educated they relealize they have been duped by clever marketing. When friends demonstrate broadband technolgies which, remarkably, access the "AOL" internet with freedom and speed they wake up.
including open source software. If ever there was an arena crying out for inspection it's the voting process both in the US and worldwide. I for one welcome my open source voting software overlords.
Sure a secure Microsoft product is what the consumer wants but so is profit margin and familiarity. Sometimes inferior products dominate the market for no good reason whatsoever, remember the Chrysler K car?
Not sure how much new ground is covered here. spamassassin support can be added to 1.4. nntp, do we need another Outlook Express clone? Web calendering has possibilities but Exchange has a significant lead. I use Evolution 1.4 daily and it does what a email client should, as long as the mail server is not running Exchange.
Hundreds of emails, floods of text messages, loads of IM buddies, PDA bulging with contacts, etc. Self importance and self worth are the order of the day. Kind of pathetic really.
Estonia is relatively small in size and population. With the exception of Tallinn and a couple other cities it's also very rural. RFID is manageable there. Plus, it might help if you get lost in the heavy forests and start treking toward the Soviet border. 1991 wasn't that long ago and many Estonians don't want to go there...
My PHB decided that we didn't need two copies of any given library and made the executive decision to delete all those redundat.so libraries on our main Sun file server. Good times...
It's hard for me to stay off the soapbox on this one
since most of my IT subordinates are fully employed non-degreed IT pro's working on degrees. Most started in the IT version of the mail room and worked themselves into their current gig based on merit and talent. I applaud their sacrifice to join the CS graduate club but expect the same quality work I see day-to-day. Hard work and talent is the secret...
In the world of US defense department computing the major roadblock for Linux acceptance is accredidation. Linux is deployed in many places but frequently in typical roles as a server thus out of sight of many users. My work location is exceptional in that Linux desktop presence is increasing but we continually run into problems with sites refusing to run the OS because of lack of accredidation. This is an expensive process for companies such as Red Hat and SUSE but must be persued. The deep pocket companies continue to lead.
Sun is a public company answering to stock holders and Scott McNeely is a businessman. Relinquishing control of a company product withthe name recognition of Java is a gamble even a 'rogue" businessman like McNeely would be unlikely to do.

Was red now blue.
and my phone no longer works either. sigh.
Will movie theaters need to upgrade to the latest video equipment to be able to run this film?
Must have been a left wing conspiracy and it was successful. And I thought they really believed that sh!t they printed...

IBM is rivaling Microsoft's uncany knack for aligning their company with revelant dates.
Including running all varieties of malware, coersive scripts and junk http redirects.

Posting articles about a low tech country like N. Korea is a very effective DOS. We won't hear from any of those crackers for months now...

As in Bill Joy.

my boss just caught me reading this ariticle on Slashdot and told me to hit the road. Thanks a lot.
From my perspective based on the size of SP2 I'd say it's a new OS. Two patches/flaws in a MS OS is darn good. Kudos to Redmond.

I hate when that happens
If by dominance you mean they have captured the market spewing unwanted popups and spam, well duh!
Google is suing LEGO over their search engine legoogle.com.
Microsoft products such as Outlook make the news? Garbage In Garbage Out.
