Youtube wins BECAUSE of the crap videos. No matter how crap they are, there are people who like to watch crap videos because without Youtube, where else are you going to post those crap videos to, and get watched, forwarded, embedded, deleted. Crap videos (the real crap ones) also promotes people to make better than crap videos. Search up some Arnold impressions and you can see from the really crap to winner crap. I agree, on a lot of things. Doom 3 wasn't the great "game" everyone hoped for, but the "give me back my baby" part did have me jumped off the chair and turned off the game for a while, and only a while. I jumped back into the game even though it's somewhat boring, it's a piece of John that we can all enjoy. How often you get that from a fellow slashdotter?

Even though the game wasn't that great, it certainly gave me the ooo wow feeling playing on the 6800gt at the time. And understandably but acceptably slow frame rate that's still enjoyable. If anyone followed just a part of what John was trying to do with Doom 3 and the heart he put into it, one would drool on the multi shadows, dynamic lighting and stuff on the screen.

I admit, HL2 was a kick ass game, it was fun, it was fast, and the sunlight was cool. But there's a certain kickassism when you play John's game. To me it's like a "connection" to another nerd that I have absolutely no idea what he talks about 99.9% of the time. And Doom was the only way I can understand a part of him that made the genre. So here's to John, no matter what you do in the future, god bless and good luck.

So what if they censor games now? The subsequent Chinese generations are going to be just as if not MORE into capitalism and consumerism than today's (just like with the US).
    .
You write as though the PRC still gives a shit. I agree with you, I just don't agree with the way you say it. It's not that they are trying to convert the capitalists to communists or vice versa, they simply don't give a shit what you are. That is the problem. What the "officials" are concerned about, much like normal politicians, is more power and more money.
    .
At some point, some government official is going to realize that it's a huge waste of money trying to censor everything, and that department will get cut.
    .
If you and me who don't work in the office realize this, they realize this by working there. They know it's a huge waste of money. But if you were them, you won't go around telling people that. You will say we're making tremendous efforts and progress in the well-being of the Chinese citizens by censoring harmful materials from the chaotic internet. Why? Because you got bills to pay too.
    .
It's sad isn't it but that's how the world works. Much like recycling, I admit there must be some recycling method and system that makes the earth "greener" but I am pretty sure there're systems that don't work. In fact there're recycling systems that makes it worse. But if you're working in there, you won't say nothing. You can quit, but "saying" things won't change the ethics as there are thousands more working with you in there that have bills to pay too.

If you think about it it's really nutty, we are 1 Earth right? Now some dude build 10 houses, costs 100k per, sells those house for 300k per, so he gets 3 mil. Where does the 3 mil come from? It's a collective of people making that 3 mil right? But where did that 3 mil come from? Nobody has seen that 3 mil in cash, solid 3d paper, ever.

I agree to a poster here that said to charge her 40% of her income, that's fine and it's payable and workable for whoever is going to spend that 40%. But 2 mil is just nuts.
