You beat me to it AC. But you have to forgive Sony. I know their little scheme in this move. They are looking into geohot's paypal to find out how willing are the geek to donate money, grab our emails, then send us some flyers to donate to their earthquake fund.
Seriously, I am wondering if Sony is helping the country at this moment.
As I said in the bioshock movie fund last week, everyone's $10 works if it's geeked enough!:) Many many other things worth our money out there, fraps for one.. it's time to give something back.
No harm done bro. I enjoy a discussion with fellow slashdotters:) Yeah it's difficult to pull this off but if truly the problem is "only" money, and this dude doesn't seem too shabby directing, I would gladly give $100 towards this fund. The Mexican has a fantastic story, PoTC shows the special fx needed to pull off BioShock's texture. Now all we need is a movement.
I find the idea of bone-loss fascinating because treating bone-loss negatively it assuming the bone would hold up to Earth's gravity, which it won't. But the colonist aren't coming back to Earth. Whether this loss affect the production of blood, etc I don't know. But on a spaceship for 1000 year, we might evolve into something else that "can" live on non-earth-like planets. Isn't that cool?
You spelled Mortal Combat wrong. Just found it funny. But yeah, compared to the wars we fought and still fighting now, games looks kiddish. I just finished watching "The Pacific" and I believe that to be a close representation of what the guys been through in the war.
And here the armchair pirates are concerning about games we play. pfft.
The only help I got from gaming was horning the reflex I needed when driving, in the snow. And have zero problems viewing the minimap aka GPS once in a while. I know many people that aren't gamers, with a low visual bandwidth, that has trouble looking at the GPS, even for 1 second. So I think gaming improves your visual bandwidth somewhat.
The most helpful advice I got from my driving instructor was always noticing what's around me while I was driving, and always know your safe spots (where to steer) in case something happens. In the Canadian Winter, the brakes isn't enough to save your life:)
Yeah I think starting with the elements would be best bet. After all, the universe is full of these stuff and it's something we have in common with everything else. Other things like languages, calendar, or even logic is purely human construct. Hell not every one of us is logical here on Earth.
I don't think it needs publicity at this point.. If someone play games and don't know what DNF is, you can collect his game card :)

I don't know, think I got the idea from One Day on Earth.
How about we each give the guy $10 and proceed to pirate the movie off tpb when it's done? Wouldn't it be just?
It's ok "Running With Scissors CEO". We will be too busy playing Duke Nukem Forever anyway.. wouldn't we?

Can we go together?
Thank you. What a great speech.
What I found violent in that game is surrounding Montezuma with big ass tanks and demand that 5 bucks a turn lol.

What makes anyone think the geeks want to be a part of the filthy pop culture. Argh.
My 8-track disagrees.
