    Well, not quite, you still need the computer. But it's not so far either. Computers are as cheap as TVs. (Even Macs!)

    Public net access opens up a whole world of information to a lot of people. Sure anyone can go to the library now and use the computers there, but that's a much greater time burden.

    We already spend a boatload of local money on public education. IMO, public wireless would be a significant boon with a relatively small pricetag.

    Put simply, I care more about my conversation than your safety and peace of mind.

    Call it flamebait or troll if you want, but it's a fact many people are willing to take the "extra risk" of phones+cars.

    The total number of crashes and fatalities in the US is lower than 30 years ago despite more people on the road. The crash, fatality, and injury rates per million miles are still decreasing. I'll take my chances and give you a call to let you know how it turns out.

    You can already do that in terms of "having the power of 4 6600 chips". Just SLI two 6800 Ultras. Same number of total pipes. Probably faster memory too.

    Our fortune 500 company of over 200,000 employees has traditionally distributed stock options to its management employees as part of a bonus package. This year they won't, but it remains to be seen if we'll get cash, straight-out stock, or a screw-job.
