I live in a valley with a large hill between the house and the cell tower. The cell socket I have has a connection for an external antenna. I ran a coax line up to a high gain yagi antenna on the roof in order to get a signal. You can also get a power booster to improve the signal. When I got it, they only made them for the Nokia. The sound quality was not very good and I had to clean the connectors often. I imagine that they have improved some in the last couple of years. Since Cingular is going GCM, I had to change phones. The old Cell Socket won't work with the new phone so I am now using Cingulars Fast Forward. With Fast Forward you have to make outgoing calls with the cell phone, which for me means holding the cell phone up against the bedroom window to get a signal. Makes for shorter phone calls.
Mars has a thin atmosphere because it doesn't have enough gravity to hold on to it. Mars is right on the edge of he required size to hold onto an atmosphere. It has to do with the escape velocity of energetic molecules at the top edge.
Human skin is actually a surprisingly strong pressure barrier. The conterpressure suit can be an open weave with up to millimeter sized openings. The biggest problem is figuring out how to keep pressure on the concave areas such as under the arms and behind the knees. An advantage of counterpressure suits is that a tear in the suit doesn't result in catastrophic pressure loss. It only causes injury to the area of the tear. Another problem with them is getting them on and off. It would be like putting super tight pantyhose over your whole body. (not that I know anything about that)
Personally I like Jeeves. There have been several times when searching for something involving a common word that Jeeves' context sensitive approach came through. Sure, it makes a lot of strange suggestions, but hidden among them is an occasional gem.
Just as a driver needs to make sure their car is roadworthy, PC users need to be sure that their systems have at least some rudimentary method of protection.
I wonder what percentage of licensed drivers have any clue how to check a car for roadworthiness.
I remember seeing an animation of Abraham Lincoln made from several portraits of him at different angles. I'm thinking that the same thing could be done of any popular subject which has had multiple pictures taken of it.
They should park it on a slope whenever possible so that the solar panels face into the sun.

The median surface pressure on Mars is (coincidently or not) very close to the triple point of water. Which means that liquid water could exist on the surface for short periods. This also means that very small changes in temperature or pressure would cause very large differences in chemical dynamics.

Maybe off topic but it seems that the cable industry is pushing referendums in several states to impose a tax on satellite services.
On topic, I have Dish Network and I am happy with it. I do wish there were better programming choices (I'm forced to take the golf channel along with the rest of the "package"). They recently added all of our local channels, which is good because I live out between two large hills and only get one fuzzy broadcast channel.
