  1. Re:Those aren't the same. on Was the iPod Accessory Port Inspired By a 40-Year-Old Camera? · · Score: 5, Informative

Hi, I was the one who posted. I didn't mean to imply that the port was functionally the same. Just that the two ports are micrometers apart in size. And both are situated centered on the end of the device. It struck me as an interesting coincidence. Also, my server is slashdotted. I have supercache enabled and CDN for my media. Still couldn't handle the load. Ugh. Wordpress. Maybe time to move to Tumblr.

  2. I am not Batman on Why the iPod is Losing its Cool · · Score: 1

I believe that when Apple finally releases a 'iPhone' that there will be a revival of sales. A phone is a 'must-carry' device, while and iPod is very much optional. I currently have a 60gb video iPod that I never use. When I am running around, doing errands, I dont want to have a Batman-esque belt of devices (phone,iPod,camera). My current solution is a multimedia phone (the Nokia N73). It is about one generation away from being the ulitmate convergence device for me. I think if Apple rolled out their vision of a convergence device, it would take the market by storm, much as the original iPod did.

  3. Re:Reality? on MMOGs With Television, Movie Add-Ons · · Score: 1

Just because the dramas on TV are great does not mean that all Reality is bad.
Survivor is still good. Entertaining and not pandering to the lowest common denominator. I would argue that it is the same audience that watches CSI (the ratings are very similar).
Amazing Race is a decent show. Breaking Bonaduce was hard to watch but it was actually very well done. Project Greenlight - good, smart show. Project Runway - people with real skills compete for a chance at a real career.
There are diamonds in the rough.

  4. Your prayers have been answered on Nokia Develops a New Browser on Apple WebKit · · Score: 1

  5. Re:Return the favor? on Nokia Develops a New Browser on Apple WebKit · · Score: 1

I upgraded to Tiger so iSync isn't the issue anymore. The Nokia software allows you to convert MP3s to "true tones" and also allows you to use the Nokia LifeBlog software. I am using the PicoBlogger as a moblog solution but have not found a way to convert MP3s. These may seem like silly needs but it would be nice to have the option. Its part of my overall experience with my phone.

Overall, I am thrilled. I dumped Verizon Wireless because of their phone crippling tendencies and dumped my Treo for my 6620. I am very happy with my choice.

  6. Return the favor? on Nokia Develops a New Browser on Apple WebKit · · Score: 4, Interesting

Maybe they can return the favor by being more Mac friendly in their desktop and sync software rollouts.

I have recently "discovered" the series 60 platform and I am really pleased with it. I was so happy with it that I was able to dump my Treo for a 6620. Finally, a real multitaksting smartphone alternative (non-msft). It's the best thing since sliced bread. Now if they could just give OS X some love.

I can tell you. I work in a freelance environment and change job sites every three months or so. I don't want to lug a powerbook around just to check email and browse /. I currently have a treo 600 and hate it because of its bugginess and no clamshell form factor. I would love to travel with a slim clamshell phone and a PSP as most of my jobsites have open wifi access.

I hope that answers your question.

I must say that after Yahoo! decided to charge for POP access I said "never again will I rely on a 'free' service." Once you grow to rely on this account for POP access to your pdas. phones, etc. they have you by the short hairs.

Maybe they will prove me wrong and they wont pull a Yahoo, but for now, I am staying put and using my gmail account as my spam catch all and for its very best feature: geek street cred.
