I have an early 2nd generation DVD player that isn't faring too well with newer DVDs with extras. If the Q is coming to the US, it would be an interesting alternative, but I'm still not convinced it's the system type for me. If the pricing that I originally saw ($250 more than a NGC), it's not worth it because you can get some decent progressive scan dvd players for less thank the difference!
I was going through the internal debate of which game system to buy in December. I was reluctant to buy the Sony because it was out for a year, and they hadn't dropped the price to compete with the Xbox and NGC.
I was favoring the NGC, due to its 4-player capability out of the box(yes I know they others do with silly-ass dongles). However, when I heard that it wouldn't play full-sized DVDs, I was in a quandry - should I wait for the Panasonic player, or should I go with one of the other boxen?
I don't like the Xbox because of who makes it (and it is an acceptable gaming system), and Sony could have stomped the competition by dropping the price of the PS2, sy, by $50, or adding some extras and keeping the price the same, but why they didn't is beyond me.
Many of my officemates have PS2s, and one friend has an Xbox, and another has a PS2.
In the end, I chose to do nothing but wait.
I don't need another PC - I already have a homebuilt kickass system that does everything I need a computer to do. I don't care if you can get it to run Linux (see above).
I want a system to have fun with when I have a bunch of friends over who don't want to stare at their own screens. We already do multiplayer gaming, but with boards, dice, tokens and cards. Occasionally we want something else, and a 4-player gaming system fits the bill quite nicely.
Maybe someone here'll enlighten me on which one to get?
A DSL company I supported was trying to break into this market when their sole DSL supplier (Northpoint) bit the big one. It would have really changed things, not having to be at the mercy of both Northpoint and Verizon installers who constantly pointed fingers at each other when installations didn't go well.
They had a running demo and the latency was pretty minimal. They had the potential for 11 Mbit transfer rates to individuals at the time (mid summer). It woulda been nice, but their VC (remember those guys?) chose to sit for 6 months before making a decision. Unfortunately, the company couldn't wait that long, and when they heard, they folded pretty much the next day.
I like multiplayer games, and I'm disheartened that I have to buy expansions for the PS2 to get that.
Are there a lot of good 4 player games for the PS2? It's a prime consideration for me choosing one game system over another.
I will not choose the alien-egg Xbox because of who oens it. So shoot me with your mind bullets, I don't care.
I have a N64, and I'm not biased towards Nintendo.
I have played both systems, and I like the games of both, but I do prefer the GCN's controller better because it's much more ergonomically designed and more comfortable than the PS2 controllers.
However, I did go to a Comp USA in NJ, and they had an Xbox setup with a Football Game.
While I am not an avid footballer (of any kind of football), it was an interesting game to play. The graphics were very crisp, and the sound (as hooked up to a subwoofer-enabled sound system) was pretty damn good..
I am not in love with the controller, though. A little too narrow for my average-sized hands.
Family Guy is the sacrificial lamb of a show to go up against the first half hour of Survivor, and Friends, while the Tick goes up against the second half and a Will and Grace episode.
Fortunately, that's less channel flippin for me cuz I can't stand Family Guy.
What's it got? Buncha programmers sitting in dim rooms tapping away at keyboards while occasionally minching on cold Pizza and Code Red?

One of the daily releases caused my screen to go woogeda-woogeda a couple of times, so after rebooting, I backed outta that version. It seems to work fine.
I'm unable to run java applets, though, but I'm guessing that's because the java installer spots that I still have NS4 on the machine.
I won't be giving up NS4 until the NS6/ Mozillillilla mail reader works worth a damn.
Would you buy from a company that begrudgingly admits to flaws in its products, and has to release fixes for the defects, and then doesn't apply them to their own components?
Not I.
Doesn't matter if.NET is entirely different code, etc, what matters is if they properly manage the service. Given that they can't do it for Hotmail, what makes you think they can do it for.NET?
you can still find decent stuff at these shows. This year, one vendor was selling SGI Indys and Sun Sparcstations by the palletful.
Last year, I picked up an old Sparc 1+ for $80, and it's been my webserver for a year and a half now.
Bargains can be found, but they definitely aren't as numerous as they used to be. I got some good serial cable, and a cable tv tuner.
I still chuckle from the year I heard someone telling his buddy he wanted one of those "cowayla" pads (Koala tablet).
Every time I've tried to use to Mozilla mailer, it fscks up the existing folders I have, and has yet to index them properly.
I hate the extra.slt directory design I've seen - Why in this day and age can't they be in a directly like ~/mail? Instead, it creates a NEW directory for new mail. Why can't I just say "Use this directory for ALL my mail, and NONE OTHER". I have multiple folders for a reason, and I don't see the need to have additional folders elsewhere.
They had just come from a ST:DS9 marathon, and are in love with "The Sisko"
and half the market is below average, then at least 40% of Microsoft would be below average in its compliance.
Half of the game is 90% mental.

Xbox is from MS so I didn't look at it too closely. don't care for Software company making Hardware, either.
Bob Worthington - the guy in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, who grabs Kirk by the waist, while Scotty and McCoy each hold one of his arms!
Ok, so maybe you didn't watch the final episode of the 4th season of Babylon 5, but those of us who did will probably smirk...

I got to learn BASIC on 110-baud terminals with yellow rolls of paper. If I was lucky, I could get one of the ones with the papertape reader.
I think they were called Acoustic Couplers.

Pity, really.
released a Starcraft patch for the random lockup problem they have under Win2k!
Anyone hear about one coming? It's the primary reason I still have Win98SE on my machine.

Which episode was he in? I know there was that one scene at the veternarian's where there was the Rust Monster...
Fear of a Bot Planet was one of my favorite single episodes on tv, of any show, ever.
I'm not familiar with too many in the Metro NYC area, where I'd expect them to be more noticeable...
as you peer in, one of those facehuggers leaps out and deposits an alien hatchling that has to burrow its way out of your chest.
I think we *really* want to waste a half hour of or lives watching HIM.
I won't play.

ext3?
Yeah, it's 1 louder. It gives you that extra push to go over the edge.
Yikes (he's dead!)
