The company I work for is doing the same thing, the company usually takes on the existing work force (called re-badging) to gather as much carnal knowledge and then do a re-org and everyone has to re apply for $35k dollar jobs (which is very difficult to live off of in the Bay Area); The company then brings in H1B's to rectify the problem (kinda like 3-card-monty).
I am taking a little time off work coming up here in August...
LinuxWorld
Aug 2-5
California Extreme -the "Classic Arcade Games Show"

Its going to be fun...
Thanks to Slashdot (The Slashdot Effect), I won't spoil it for myself. Although I know a mirror will pop up soon, so please keep it well hidden for people who can't control themselves....
That's why we need to create conflict between the nations (Pakistan & India), sell arms to both sides and make lot's of money since they are both our allies, once they are close to war and all the companies no longer want to out-source to the volatile region (bringing our jobs back home), we can step in and be the mediator and look like the hero.....
I must agree completely, I've been using Redhat since 5.2, because I couldn't afford a SPARC box with Solaris, which is what I was using in school. I eventually got a job as a Sys Admin and chose Oracle on Solaris for our backend, but slowly migrated all other machines to Redhat because it's what I've used for so long...
I think Suse might be my next choice (although I dual boot w/ Debian) do to Redhats lack of interest in the desktop. I am currently looking for a replacement to Exchange 5.5 and don't want to go the MS direction any longer (since I'm now in charge), and Suse has Openexchange Server 4.1 coming out in a few weeks which looks easy to migrate to. I can overlook the whole YAST issue when I can manage and deploy stuff faster and easier since the IT department is run on a skeleton crew...
I own a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL, and the roads and parking spaces no longer fit.....
I thought I would eventually be crammed off the road but then came the SUV craze to keep me from becoming obsolete.....
Lets hope there is something that does the same for *NIX....
(actually the best thing about LINUX is it can be any car you want from a from a top alchohol drag racer to a Toyota Prius, you just need to learn to work on it and fine tune it)
I think there are alot of things the music industry can do to pull off this slump, such as burn -on- request compilation CD's, selling CD's for every concert on a tour (I think the Black Crowes did something like this by giving away a concert download with every CD purchase), and most importantly quit cramming crap down the consumers throat with all these lame cross promotional attempts I don't drink Pepsi and I don't listen to Brittney Spears (although Guiness beer and The Pouges would make a great combo).
If they couldn't decide if they should even release it (Solaris 9) on x86 then what happens when Solaris 10 comes around? Are we sure that we are going to have the same type of upgrade path that most Linux Distros offer? I was running Solaris 8 on x86 until SUN said they would no longer support Solaris on x86, now should I jump back in and take a risk or stay with Redhat who I know will be around for quite some time to come?
I've installed RH8 on a laptop to get used to the differences (quite a bit), and so I can let end users try it out to see if they can work with the differences. If I can win some people over I will try rolling out a few desktops and this is the best distro to do it with. I think the biggest sell will be OpenOffice.

Linux?

I should probably buy one since I won a $100 from the Bull riding contest...
Although I ended up spending it all at Chevy's on drinks and then returned to the convention to pick up on the twins
and then Wonder Woman...

I thought he was going to be on VACATION........
Having to deal with anyone at Frys will certainly make him enjoy beautiful California.....
Might as well have him make his case in the return line to top off all that excitement.....
Maybee theyre building a huge honeypot....
I remember those shirts when I was a kid "My parents went to Hawaiiand all I got was this lousy t-shirt", well how about:
"I designed Slashdot's new T-Shirt and All I got was this Lousy shirt (and a $75 gift certificate)"
