yeah the problem is that 480 power "requirement" is a myth. When nvidia initially released this number they were way on the conservative side. Many websites have done tests with a 350 watt power supply and it was fine. Nvidia has also come out and said 350 watts is the true minimum.
Careful, our security is starting to actually care about this fraud now. I might just talk down to you, they might actually do something about it. They are starting to realize how much this is happening. Sure your not doing it with DVD players, but they get bored too.
As a cashier, I would notice that pink box, and twice as wide as a normal DVD of the simpsons from my station and catch you. Just because 90 percent of all cashiers are dumb doesn't mean all of us are./has caught at least 50 people trying this scam and is not suprised
Tweaking competitively, especially in the quake engine games, has always been accepted.
Why?
Because those people that get higher FPS have an advantage then those that have a low FPS. Any slowdown in your game will give the other guy the advantage.
Tweaking allows the guy with the 1ghz pentium 3, GeForce TI 4200 computer, compete with the 3.2ghz Pentium 4 ATI 9800 Pro computer.
Player 2 can have a significant advantage over player 1 if you turn on all the pretty stuff.
But if you loosen the restirictions on the cvars both player 1 and player 2 would be able to play with acceptable frame rates and make the game more even.
It really easy to test, just go into your favorite multiplayer game and turn on 1600x1200 and turn everything you can to high. Watch how hard it becomes. The slowdown will affect everything. Then turn all graphic settings down and watch how much smoother it is.
Sure tweaking makes it uglier, but it makes the technical side to gaming more even.
If you turn off the foilage you can shoot out of it easier, but you are still seen by people outside of the foliage.
If you were on a lan you would be able to see what I mean.
Say player 1 was hiding in the foliage, he is directly behind a leaf on his screen so he can't see people coming directly at him.
Player 2 is coming the opposite way can see player 1 with no problem because the leaf that is covering player 1 screen doesn't get rendered unless your right on top of it. (ie. prone in the grass)
"How Many Swift Boat Vets does it take to tell a lie?"
Well, one to claim he was not in Cambodia, one to claim he was not within 50 miles or so of Cambodia, one to claim that he was within 100 yards of Cambodia, one to claim he was in Cambodia, one to claim there is no "watery border" between Vietnam and Cambodia, one to claim that there is, one to claim that no Swift Boats could have entered Cambodia, one to claim that they did. And all of this just from one Swift Boat Veteran from Texas.
1. Get punkbuster, its the best online cheat protection ever. It is not perfect, but its better then the slowly updated valve cheat system.
2. The thing that bothers me the most is that there is no voting system in counterstrike. There should always be voting enabled (for kicking players off) and set to 70 percent of all players on the server for it to pass. That prevents cheaters from just ruining a single server just because there is no admin on.
It is mathmatically improbable (I would say impossible) for someone to get your key from a key generator.
It is not as simple as it sounds. The odds of this actually happening are huge.
But you literally have a better chance at winning powerball then generating a valid online key.
I think it is far more likly:
1. someone had physical access to your computer and took it
2. someone opened your copy in the store and wrote down the key
3. you installed a virus or trojan that stole the key from your computer
I'm not sure what is up with all the RTCW hate here.
RTCW wasn't about the single player. The single player sucked.
The reason why it was a critical success was the multiplayer. RTCW multiplayer brings a another whole level of teamplay. Newbies get frustrated because it is a skilled game. RTCW isn't newbie friendly. It is really complex. RTCW is really a clan oriented organzied game. RTCW:ET is a lot more of a hand-hold. Newbies will do a lot better with it then the original. But the map design of RTCW:ET is really a downside and limits the clan play of the game.
I am absolutly thrilled and I think a lot of new players will be thrilled if they give RTCW2 a shot. Once you learn what the hell is going on, there isn't a game out there that can match its intensity.
close range you can go full auto, you just need to aim way the heck down to actually hit the target
precision is the most important thing in counterstrike
unlike the other games, counterstrike weapons are a lot less accurate even when burst firing, the first 2 shots may be perfect, but the rest after become spread. When I play people sometimes when I am completely dominating, I mean playing with Euros with 200 ping, 40-2 type dominating. I am pretty amazed at my lack of accuracy. In my mind I didn't miss a lot, but I would end up with 30 percent accuracy.
when running around, I don't imagine my bullets coming out right at the crosshair at close/mid range. I imagine it coming out to the left of the crosshair when running right. It varies on how far depending on the gun and distance.
From my limited experince, I don't believe any game out there has counterstrikes fickle aiming/bullet physics system. Especially quake based games.
I understand where you are coming from. I am fairly new to the CS world myself, I've only been playing since steam. I have a heavy Return to Castle Wolfenstein background (former Cal-i player). Wolf was about brute force shooting and finesse. Counter-strike is about control and accuracy.
You seem to have the right idea about the burst firing. Recoil is huge also.
I started to get more sucessful when I learned how to control the spread of my bullets and the recoil. Compared to other games, the recoil in CS is huge. If you hold down the button for more then a second, you pretty much have to be aiming at the feet to get anywhere near chest level. (with different guns it varies exactly how low, ak really low, colt not so low) The better players will make their first shots count. Even while moving the first few shots of the colt are accurate. A really good player will exploit this. He will stick and move. 2 shots, move, 2 shots move. At a sniper distance, all the guns blow goats. You literally have to fire 1 shot at a time.
So here is my cheat sheet: close: concentrate on recoil and pulling your mouse way down medium: learn how to stick and move at headshot standing level and headshot crouching level long range: very very controlled 1 shot at a time, pretend your rifle is a sniper rifle and you have to reload after a shot
Companies already track by credit card and debit card numbers.
I frequently use my debit card to get cash out without purchasing anything. For some reason the system magically knows that I purchase baby diapers and formula without me actually buying anything on my current order and prints me out coupons for diapers and formula. I don't have a club card either.
This survey was only given to people who use steam.
Of course people who use steam would have more modern hardware and software. It doesn't require a broadband connection, but I doubt a 56k, 200mhz pentium, windows98 person would go through the effort of downloading 1.6.
Go back to playing FPS with controllers.
Many do, many don't care.
:)
Other assholes like me do care and bust you
I bust people at least once a week doing this.
Careful, our security is starting to actually care about this fraud now. I might just talk down to you, they might actually do something about it. They are starting to realize how much this is happening. Sure your not doing it with DVD players, but they get bored too.
I caught a gentleman doing this exact thing. You should have seen his face as the police arrested him and his girlfriend.
He tried it with a DVD recorder and a cheapo DVD player.
I got 50 bucks for it too.
You will get caught. Maybe not the first or second time, but you will mess it up sometime and get caught.
Even if you do it perfectly, someone like me who pays attention will catch you.
I've been in the room when the police slapped the handcuffs on too. I got 50 dollars in gift cards for catching them.
remember, some nerdy down on their luck cashiers read slashdot too

Actually the opposite is true.
If you turn off the foilage you can shoot out of it easier, but you are still seen by people outside of the foliage.

Actually you probably weren't being sniped from the grass.
Believe it or not, if your in the grass you can see less then someone outside the grass looking in at you.
On your screen it would look like your hiding in the grass but on the person on the outside looking in at you, you would be perfectly visible.
Wierd huh?
How can you compare a rapid fire handgun with a revolutionary war muzzleloader?

yes and it sucks
/callvote_kick asshat
and only the guys on the team can vote
it should be:
then everyone gets:
kick this asshat?
press f1 for yes
press f2 for no
everyone can vote... make it about about 70 percent

No where near as cool as Lucas made it seem.
Medal of Honor multiplayer? Are you kidding? Talk about not fun. It is nothing but a less interesting counterstrike.

Yeah, but those are so rare, it was hardly a mainstream card like the ATI 9700.
Remember, ATI started this with the 9700 with the power connectors. I didn't hear any whining then about the extra power.
Stop being so biased.
Double Dragon is the innovator, but River City made the fighting side scroller genre complete.
Man did that game give me nightmares.
Now if they would just admit that the Nintendo Entertainment System hardware was flawed and give everyone who purchased a new one :)
I frequently use my debit card to get cash out without purchasing anything. For some reason the system magically knows that I purchase baby diapers and formula without me actually buying anything on my current order and prints me out coupons for diapers and formula. I don't have a club card either.
