I'm not looking to get into the debate about whether or not the guy's laptop should be searchable, and I'm certainly not a "think of the children!" nut. It seems to me that the obvious answer to your question. Violent movies are fictional. Fake. Child porn isn't fake. Perhaps if someone got caught with adults acting out child porn fantasies on film, then your analogy would be applicable...
I can't see something like this ever getting off the ground in the US, but if it were to do so, I'd happily pay $60 / year to be able to download all the music I want. Its nice to see that someone out there is beginning to understand how revolutionary the Internet is becoming not only for music distribution, but for just plain old finding new stuff.
I know I'm just anecdotal evidence, blah blah blah, but not only have I not bought a CD in years (the distribution part), but just about everything I listen to nowadays is something that I never would have managed to get my ears on without the Internet. I'm finding music through Wikipedia, myspace, Amazon, iTunes, and other outlets that I would never have heard 5 years ago. Plus I'm blessed with the option in many cases to be able to purchase it right away.
Even beyond just finding the music in the first place, I can also keep up with news, concert listings, merchandise, etc. whereas only a few years ago, I was completely in the dark about any of that stuff. The upside of combining the Internet with music is just too big to not invest in it.
My dad purchased one, half to play around with, half to actually use. It certainly is not a replacement for a full sized laptop or desktop, but it fits the bill for what he uses it for pretty nicely. The church he attends has a penchant for springing preaching duties on him at the last minute. Instead of carrying a folder full of old sermon notes, he simply carries the ASUS now. Now he has years worth of sermons and notes at his fingertips.
Like I said, I would never want to use it as a real PC, but for keeping in touch on the road or just keeping important info handy, its tough to beat.
In addition to the war on piracy, current laws certainly aren't helping to grow the public domain. Until lawmakers adopt some common sense when it comes to copyright length, the outcome of the war on piracy matters little.

I took a look at your other post. Congratulations! After much prayer and thought, my wife tried IVF to no avail. We only went one round, but used all of our embryos with no success.
After that, we went the international adoption route. Today, last year, we were standing in a Russian courtroom. We came home with the most beautiful baby girl we had ever seen. After a year with her, we realized that this is what God had in store for us all along.
