The real issue for the geeks of the world who buy their own kit and load whatever OS they want is when will M$ drop support for XP? I am guessing they will do it quicker than they have done for past OS's
When will they stop fixing bugs and releasing patches?
That is when we will have no choice but to give bill some more of our money?
(or maybe DX10 games will force the issue)

QUOTE If it makes everyone feel better, I don't blame our national obesity on G.W., hehe. Though I think the rest of the developed countries are going to get a taste of that themselves over the next couple generations

Well hopefully not, most countries use America as a prediction of future problems for their own country. I know in the UK and Australia there is a huge push to curb obesity problems. Even people lobbying to stop fastfood advertising in children viewing hours on TV. Public schools in Australia are being pushed into sensible canteen menus. The government is making policies on a mandatory number of hours physical exercise in schools.
The next logical step is to prosecute parents who have obese kids. (I am not talking borderline obese, I am talking parents who have grossly obese YOUNG children should be held accountable)
I know there will always be obese people but maybe the tide can be turned.
Use sysprep(found on the xp cd in tools/reskit/deploy.cab or just search the cd for deploy.cab)
extract sysprep.exe and run sysprep.exe -reseal.
when the machine reboots you can enter the COA from your legit copy of XP.

Corporate Volume License Keys always pass the WGA test.
e.g. HP has all the computers in the Sydney office running with one Volume License Key, now if someone were to leave HP's employ and continue to use the key MS would have no way of knowing so has to let it pass the WGA.
It has to just shrug and go well thats HP let it pass or risk annoying the hell out of a lot of HP people if they refuse it.
The Wiimote is just a gicmick, I am sure most people will just use a normal controller most of the time. I am guessing my two wavebirds will still work on the Wii.
The real reason I will upgrade from my Gamecube is to access Virtual Console and play back catalog games, I hope I can get a fix of Golden Eye on it.
As for it not being up their in terms of graphics, I really don't care, Nintendos games rock, they are always great fun and I have a PC with a 512MB 7900GTX in it, if I want fantastic looking graphics I use that. I have no reason to give Sony my money and the XBox 360 graphics do not impress next to a 7900GTX.
If I hear a song I like I remember a few lines of the lyrics and then search for that on the web.
I am then able to find the artist and track title and go buy it.
Also I quite often post on music forums and in telling people about a cool song I like will post the lyrics for people to read, what is soo wrong with telling people the lyrics to a song?
The RIAA are a bunch of self defeating greedy fools who are ruining their revenue stream with every new action they take!
I love allofmp3.com
If RIAA and other industry groups adopted their model/pricing most people would just pay and download per song as it should be.
The number of paying customers would multiply by millions and they recording indutry despite the lower prices would make more money than they ever have.
They are blind fools.
The article is wrong, you can sell your music and movie cd/dvds.
Just check out video ezy or game traders etc... They sell pre watched movies and pre owned games. It is not illegal to sell these things as you own the physical medium.
System Shock missed the boat, by the time it was released 3 months after Doom everyone was to busy playing Doom to notice it. But you are right it was very good in its own right but that said it was not going for the same feel as Doom. Doom did have a certain quality/feel? that System Shock just missed by a fraction. It deserves all the credit it has received.
I still have a voodoo 1 card with the link cable and stealth 64 videocard I had it piggied off of in a cupboard.
I can't bring myself to throw it out.:-)
There is indeed such a thing as ADD & ADHD but.... unfortuantly many people are prescribed these treaments when their problem is in fact bad parenting, lack of any discipline or they are just kids who hate school. My guess would be 80% of kids put on this stuff shouldn't be.
But what is the doctor to do? parents demanding a quick fix for little johnny who is out of control, schools pressuring parents to fix little johnny because he won't concentrate in class etc... etc...
Give him a pill, welcome to the quick fix society.
But lets see how this will affect this generation of pill poppers when we look back an analyse in 20 years. I am guessing it won't be pretty upon reflection.
The point being this unit with this pricing is going to be far more attractive for families with young kids, the next generation of teenage gamers. especially as the games like mario etc... will be seen by parents as better than the consoles that push the ultra realistic fps games. (I use ultra realistic loosely of course, these consoles sure don't have 7900GTX's in them)
But of course not exclusively young kids, I am 37 and I want one.:-)
What with the price point for the unit and now access to back catalogue at a great price it is looking more and more like Nintendo is going to have a great success on its hands.
The strategy of ignoring latest greatest visuals and focusing on fun gameplay and moving it out the door at great prices is going to put this unit in the homes of the families with kids under... say 12y/o.
Win the hearts of the next wave of gamers and they will be in a great position when the next generation of console comes along (e.g. ps4,xbox 720 & wiiii):-)
I own a small business providing support to small business and home users and we have found that if a support call is placed regarding virus software not doing the right thing 9 times out of 10 it is Norton Antivirus.
Now when I say wrong thing I mean, screwed up while upgrading, refused to reinstall after it corrupted, (symantec have a tool to clean your machine up for a new install, even they recognise it does not uninstall/reinstall properly) live update refusing to work (very common one this), dramatic slow down of the PC after Norton install. The list just goes on.
Also do not touch AntiVir it has loads of annoying false reports and it can cripple your machine with popups when it finds a virus and can't fix it. (which seems to happen a lot)
I suggest AVG or Avast. )I personally like AVG because it is soo unintrusive.
Are you saying the American President is stupid? nah... did you work that out on your own ;-)
ahhh no my mistake that is showing MET, it left 9 mins ago :-)
according to the clock on the nasa site in 9 minutes we have lift off. god speed.

He obviously still does... now what is it you call people who do that?
I am going to demand a copy for review, just incase it is inappropriate for my kids. :-)
Seriously though Jack! Buy your own damn copy D@#khead!!!
Now the family should sue them on the basis that the stress of the action against their departed father hastened his death.
Out of an abundance of sensitivity.... more like an abundance of bad press exposure.

The bigger licensing issue is of course ACADEMIC
Mrs Smith trots off to the high street computer co and wants Windows XP, now does she buy the full version for $300 or the academic version for $98?
Come on M$ $300 for XP but only $98 if you put a red sticker on the outside of the box with Academic Version written on it?!
I would be interested to know how many of the boxes are sold at $300 in high st stores!

Here here...
Way too many parents looking for an excuse other than their own lack of parental skills.
Find a parent who says they never smack their children and generally you will find some obnoxious little brats.

If it comes out of my speakers, I can grab it to a unprotected mp3 using many different programs e.g audacity. Don't see a problem here.
