I don't play WoW or Golf. But.. Golf can and does take hours of peoples days and is far more financially burdensome. Now, granted, it is more social as in real world interaction and generally people you meet on the field of play are good to network with, thus increases your income etc. But, people spend thousands of dollars on flights, tee-times, golf clinics, equipment, 19th hole, etc. It is addictive to those who play it. I am sandwhiched between Golf Geeks and WoW nerds. My addiction? Flying.

Further, with Digital AM, CD quality sound can be delivered on the same band.

It'd be nice to have a digital portable receiver that could record AM / FM / Satellite and also do podcasting.

Kinda creepy there are people out there that think like this. What should the world do? Promote regime change in Egypt? Kind of like it was promoted for Iraq. i.e. 14 nations passing 1441. Or what about in North Korea? Or Iran? What about Darfur? Bush's policies have stopped genocide there... for now. But, what if it requires troop intervention in the future? Who sends the troops (UN seems gutless, NATO says no and the African Union is rag tag at best). So who? Those EVIL americans? C'mon, liberals accuse Conservatives of only seeing black and white and they are more nuanced in their vision. But, it is proven day in day out that they themselves have Alzheimers when it comes to recent history and aren't able to nuance the role of America and the broader strategy. Will you guys (majority of /. that get mod up) stop hating the country in 2008 and start thinking logically and rationally instead of being colored by your hatred of one man?

It's been a common task since as far as I can remember. Specifically the DOS days when viruses were spread by 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 floppy. I think this was a subtle "dig" at the laptop being Windows only. (Meaning that all Windows machines are Virus ridden) and require an entire processor to scan all day every day. Even though a well maintained Windows system is very stable and offers a great many number of features. I would think though that a Linux oriented site, like this, might be interested in what versions of Linux the community can get to work on this and they might want to dive deeper into just how the Dell Mediadirect susbsystem works on laptops such as this. But, alas... It shan't be. Not aimed at parent but the overall feel / tenor of the slashdot community: Constructive criticism will gain you friends. Believe it or not, Dell's XPS line is a bigger business than Alienware. Dell bought Alienware to own the highest of high end, and also to sell AMD product. They also lend their financing arm to them as well as helping Alienware gain the same clout in buying power as Dell. Furthermore, their manufacturing process and logistics will certainly be improved. At least that is how I see it.

Everyone exclaims about the Analog hole. How can you stop recording something if you can hear it. I think I have discovered a solution. Blow out everyones ear drums and have their hearing replaced with a set of bionic hearing aids that conform to DRM. Through a real world ADC you can still the hear approved analog sounds in your environment, but all speakers, headphones and anything that can broadcast DRM media will be replaced with digital transmitters that interface with your DRM validated hearing aid. This will solve lots of problems! Of course, if/when the DRM is cracked and people upload hacked firmware to their ears a new specification will have to be devised and the ears upgraded. This could theoretically be applicable to our other senses. Digital Eyes, and Taste (DRM Emeril recipes).

I recommend reading about Bush's past choices for judgeships. You will see that he has been a moderate when it comes to appointing judges and has angered some conservatives because of his appointees. I think we can trust Bush to appoint judges that are not selected because of an ideological bent.

  24. Re:Be patient... on Pre-Election Discussion · · Score: 1

I think Bush will be best for this. He wants to appoint strict interpreters of the law. Not activist judges. He won't submit them to a litmus test. History bears this out. Look at Bush's appointments to Texas court positions. Many conservatives in this state complained about his choices.

Kerry has come right out and said he will have a litmus test, he will only appoint pro-choice judges and will kick judges who are personally pro-life out of contention, he won't nominate them or he'll instruct his party to block confirmation if they are found to have pro-life proclivities. This prevents any balance in its nature. Bush is the best man if you want good judges who interpret the law and don't legislate from the bench and are not submitted to a litmus test.
