Wake up and smell the roses, United States. For every one of you, there are four Chinese. Do you all share a common happy worldview? Um, no way matey. Then why are you handing over all your intellectual property to them? e.g designs for every piece of equipment made in China. I think it is called cutting your own throats (but I guess that is not nice in today's multi-religious climate where we cannot criticize other religions and so on).
First you concede that you are no expert on the subject, then proceed to pontificate that evolution is a fact. No sir, perhaps you SHOULD look at both sides.
Next, the evidence that is so great and overwhelming does not exist. Dorkins will say it does but have you not heard that he even went as far as to say "we don't need evidence for evolution" in one interview.
Lastly, the reason Hitchens and Dorkins come across as angry men is because they are losing the battle for the minds of the next generation who are less bound by the dogmatism of they guys and their cronies. Whenever someone has to resort to Dorkins style tactics, you know they have lost.
Did you not hear what atheist Michael Ruse said about Dorkins latest book? He said it made him embarrassed to be an atheist. Don't believe me? Do a google search.
Sad that/. is so quick to promote this sort of stupidity.
Telecom in New Zealand: you reckon the US has it bad? You should come down here for a while. Telecommunications in this country are a sick joke. 20 cents per text, something like $1.69 per minute for peak calling for prepay. And don't even ask about broadband.
More MS-haters bollocks. You can save to old version formats if you want to. Simple. That aside, Office 2007 is by far the best office so far. It is a very slick set of apps that blows Office 2003 and Open Office out of the water. Gosh, I am even considering writing a thesis on it!
Should I trust Lenovo with my trusty Thinkpad laptop? Or could the dodgy Chinese be installing scanware each time I upgrade my drivers? I don't have good feelings about my data being in the hands of corrupt commies.
Cheap shots like this ought to be ignored. Vista has a few annoyances but the one you mention is not a major. One group recently said the major problem they have coming from their Linux customer feedback is permissions, permissions, permissions. IOW, they are a PITB however necessary they are.
"... taken a step towards producing life from scratch in the laboratory by having successfully transplanted an entire genome from one bacterium cell to another."
Um, am i missing something here? From scratch??? Ok, I assume that means they did not make their own atoms BUT life is made not just of atoms but also information; that is ordered, information-rich systems of highly ordered atoms. What they have done is a gazillion miles from creating life from scratch -- transplanting an entire genome??? Yeah right!
This comment is silly. In New Zealand we have the same problems with science as in the USA. We cannot get physics teachers in the schools who are actually trained in physics, so what happens? The kids get taught badly and don't learn to love the subject.
But worse than this is the atheistic/secular worldview that is so rampant in this country. Because of the 'live once then die' mentality, people are living for today and for pleasure and money which is not something found in the sciences which require hard work and often poor pay. Thus more and more students gravitate toward economics or accounting.
Atheists/secularists need to grapple with these ideas. We have lots of overseas students in the areas I work in and they are beginning to perform better than our home-grown talent. Reality: our society is collapsing slowly under the weight of our nihilistic worldview. Was it Camus who wrote: "The greatest question is whether or not to commit suicide"?
Non-western cultures seen to still have a 'purposeful' meta-narrative but the west now has an 'eat, drink and be merry' mentality that leads only to death.
And while the God-haters on/. ridicule these ideas, Christian physicists like myself continue to pursue an understanding of God's world and proclaim His glory thru it all.
Your question is not relevant. The point is that it is NOT junk DNA and ID PREDICTED this while Darwinism denied it. ID does have predictive ability however much the God-hating Darwinists cry that it doesn't. This case just illuminates the fact. Cheers.
Define 'evil' 4 me please. It depends upon your worldview and ultimately whether there is absolute truth or not. For example: Google's chastisement of certain sites that carefully and honestly critique homosexuality is imo evil, especially while they hypocritically promote porn and other nasties.
Google is too big and potentially too dangerous imo, but what is the alternative?
I guess they have better access to my personal info that the FBI does.
I want out but what are the other options?
When they broke the bone into pieces for transport, they were amazed to find that some of the dinosaur's soft tissues appeared to be preserved within. Previously, paleontologists had thought all the tissues of a fossil turned to minerals over the course of millions of years.
After analyzing the tissues under a microscope, Schweitzer reported in 2005 that they looked similar to the cells and blood vessels found in ostrich bones. But at that time, "we could not directly address what that material was made of," she said during a teleconference with journalists this week.
Sounds a lot like these dinos may not be all that old. How long would proteins expect to last in a recognizable form?

Perhaps if China paid 4 all their software instead of stealing it, the deficit would be reduced.

I use it every day and it is rock solid :-)

I'll take Vista thanks :-) Don't have time to fix Linux problems anymore.

Thanks for that. I would expect to be modded down though ... this is /. :-)
Good point! That would rule out most of the 'physicists' who gave us what we have today in classical physics. Like Newton, Faraday etc.

So called "junk DNA" actually appears to be functional.
This is EXACTLY what the intelligent design guys have been saying for ages. ID DOES make predictions.
Whew. Got that off my chest:-)

Outlook is simply a way-better program than Thunderbird in soooo many ways. Especially Outlook 2007. I use TB but it just isn't there in comparison.
Google is too big and potentially too dangerous imo, but what is the alternative? I guess they have better access to my personal info that the FBI does. I want out but what are the other options?

Compared to outlook, thunderbird (sadly) is so far behind it is not even on the map. Outlook 2007 is a sweet application.
Yup, the fittest survive. The atheists keep killing their babies. The religious don't.
You think the US has it bad? Try New Zealand :-( Ours is pathetic due to out pitiful monopolizing lines company, Telecom (or Telecon or Telescum).

Wow, can pseudo science fall any further. And ID is mocked as being non-testable. What a joke.
Do No Evil. Yeah Right. Define evil please Google :-(
