    Copyright protections are not a lopsided us-versus-them situation. There's no line in the sand between content producers (bad) and consumers (good). If you create something, whether you're a media corporation or an individual, copyright works in your favor.

    Rembember, even the GNU Copyleft depends on the existence of copyright in order to work.


    And when was the last time the FBI kicked someone's door in and stole all their computer equipment for violating the GPL?

    Last I checked they won't help anyone who hasn't suffered a financial loss of at least $5000. And that's just to get them to give you the time of day.

    When the FBI starts defending the copy rights of someone other than media conglomerates I'll buy the argument that they're working in our interests.

    Yeah - I'll admit it. I'm pretty sure they all drink water, and that is one of the best performance enhancers around. You sure do perform a lot better with it than without it.

    You have to be able to make those copies in order to use the product in its intended way. It is implied from the product's packaging and description that you're able to do that. If you couldn't do that with the rights you obtained at the time of purchase then that would be fraud.

    Having to "purchase" such rights separately after the purchase of the actual copy would be like going to a car dealership, buying a car, and after you paid for it they told you that the engine is sold separately and it would cost you a few thousand more.

    I'm not trying to diss anyone who has actually attended such a school, i'm just pissed-off at the 'technical education industry' that DeVry exemplifies. I've probably interviewed about 20 or so DeVry candidates for various technical positions and they've all been horrible. I guess truck-stops and loading docks need people to hit CNTL-ALT-DEL these days too.


    Not to mention the way these places keep crapflooding the industry by advertising on radio and TV that computer people are in demand and highly paid: Come to DeVry and within a year you'll begin your new career as a highly paid Information Technology Specialist! [cut to footage of guy wearing suit & tie standing over a computer while holding a multimeter]

    Anyone will notice a huge difference going from a $100 walmart bike to an $800 bike (mainly reduced weight with better sturdiness)... but going from an $800 bike to a $2600 bike probably wouldn't benefit you much unless you're a professional or something...

    Well I saw plenty of people getting into customer service, who didn't understand it, just to make a living wage.


    The average IT salary during the dotbomb boom was quite a bit more than "a living wage" that you'd get from a customer service job.

    Why don't you guys just not buy their coffee? I mean its not like Starbucks employees storm the mom & pop places and force everyone into the starbuck's at gunpoint. People stand voluntarily in line at the place waiting to give starbuck's their money. Starbucks doesn't put the mom and shop places out of buisness - the customers did. They stopped spending their money at the mom & pop place and decided to give it to starbuck's instead by their own free will.

    I hate corporate scumbags as much as the next guy. But even more, I hate the sheep-people who voluntarily decide to spend their money at the corporate chain and then blame the corporates for the results of their own (the sheep-people's) decisions...

    Late in the 1970s, things started getting interesting. The magic point was called "3M", which stood for "1 MIP, 1 Megabyte, 1 million pixels", and the price on that was JUST BARELY within reach of an individual.


    Displays that can do 1 million pixels in the late 70's? Are you sure about that? That would be something on the order of a 1000x1000 pixel display.

    Heloooo.... You use USB, not PS2, and you get either two dual head video cards or get several low end matrox cards. I have 3 video cards (2 matrox, one NVidia) in a computer of mine right now. No cooling problems at all. And practically any PC has room for all this unless you're talking about a microATX system.

    Macrovision never stopped anybody from making a decent copy. I suggest you
    search for "video stabilizer" on ebay.
