    Sounds like SCO was the least of your worries. Even in 1993, you could have found a fairly cheap interim solution for a business critical application like email. But go ahead and blame SCO. :)

    Doesn't that only effect how they are displayed to me, not how the points are allocated?
    Yes, but if you care how slashdot looks to other people (because of "points"), you need to go volunteer at a homeless shelter. Those are some people that need someone to care about them. :)

    computer programming is not necessarily a lot of maths.
    Maybe not what you see, but what do you think happens to each line of VB that you write? Do they magically form together with help from Gates the Sorcerer? Computer programming is all about "maths."

    I had a MindSpring account in the 90s that had an incredible web interface to access Usenet. If more ISPs had implemented it, it might have caught on. But everyone was afraid of stockpiling the large amounts of porn that infiltrated.

    OK, I'll give you that. But, as I'm sure you know, just having talent is not going to get you a record deal. Having (mediocre in her case) talent and a bajillion hits on YouTube, sadly that WILL get you a record deal. The next (could've been) Stevie Ray Vaughn lives right down the street from me. He works at a grocery store, because playing the guitar doesn't pay the bills.

    My parents played Wii Bowling 2 weeks ago and haven't stopped talking about it. These are people who have never played games, and don't even have cable TV. Once it starts showing up on the shelf they are going to buy one. I was floored!

    I don't think the "honor system" has been completely worked out

    What do you call selling CDs? That is on the "honor" system, since a CD has absolutely no DRM attached. Pop a CD into iTunes, or any 1,546 other ripping systems, and you have DRM free music.
