    There is to people who are very tech-oriented like we are. My dad, who is pretty handy with a computer, knows only mp3, wma, and wav. Your standard to slightly above-standard user isn't going to be able to tell you a single damn difference between mp3 and ogg. Hell, as I'm just a programmer weinie/college student, I can only name mp3, wma, ogg, that shitty atrac-3, flac, aac, and mpc. I'm sure there are quite a few that I'm totally missing here, but you see where I'm coming from.

    Any board made in the past year or so can handle drives greater than 137 gigs, but if you choose to run a BSD or linux distro, it can recognize sizes that your motherboard may not. My pre-sp1 xp install only saw 137 gigs of my 160 gig secondary drive, but my debian install on the same box saw the "missing" ~23 gigs. It just depends on your OS of choice. Hell, I've heard of people with old PII boards and BSD using 160gig hard drives without a problem.

    What computing JOB can be done in Windows that can't be done as well or better by a Mac or Linux? People who work in microsoft access, like most of my office. This new exploit, while crap for everyone else, gives me the push I need to roll out Firefox to the entire office.

    Good plan, but whatever you do, do NOT use Nair. It began as a semi-pleasant tingle, then it felt like the fires of hell combined with the ice of the south pole, all fighting for delivering the maximum amount of pain to my scrotum.

    Addendum to previous statement: In any thread, anywhere on slashdot, add "on my gentoo box(en)" or "...switching to gentoo from windows" for extra positive moderation.


    Disclaimer: I primarily run windows at home, but will be building a mythtv machine pretty soon, it will run either mandrake or ubuntu. At work it's 90% windows, 10 % redhat8/debian.

    You know, about 6 years ago, I learned a wonderful word. Ethnocentric. Without whipping out a dictionary, it basically means that I find my own country/culture(American) superior to all others.
    Damn, I really love that word. You know what else I love? Hookers and blow, and also apple pie. I love my country, and enjoy the fact that my president now, and for the next 4 years, is a hell-raising texas cowboy who doesn't fuck around or take shit.
