Saying that Java is nice because it works on all OS's is like saying that anal sex is nice because it works on all genders
Maybe possible... but unlikely, I'd think. Not only would the phone virus have to carry a PC version of itself, it'd need to access the computer, via Bluetooth, in such a way that it could execute code...
Who's gonna INSTALL the other distros? If you're paying to ship/download Lindows, Fedora, and Mandrake... chances are, you're doing so because you want to install Lindows. Otherwise you'd just go get Fedora or Mandrake.
" (1) This also means that independant artists can advertise for their music the same way"
Many/most indie bands struggle to pay for studio time... where are they going to get enough to cover 3-5 minutes of commercial time on a major radio station? And all that's assuming that the station will even accept the indie band's "advertisment"...
Good intentions, but if people didn't care enough to try and take good (better?) photos with their film cameras (where each botched photo is a waste of film), why would they try to take good photos with their digi where you can keep 100 shots on a little CF card and instantly discard ones that may not have come out well at all?
The only headache I forsee is having to listen to everyone's favourite song every time a phone rings.
But how is taking a snippet of a song and putting it on my phone any worse than taking an entire song and putting it on my computer? Obviously the record companies want people to pay for ringtone-specific clips, but I see nothing wrong with this software.
How many times does SCO have to be told to "Put Up Or Shut Up" before they actually do so? Courts, companies, third parties...
Maybe obvious, but their silence speaks volumes.
As someone who has a NYT registration, I have to say that I've never recieved [noticed?] a single bit of spam coming as a result of said registration.
" I really have no use for low-bitrate music. I have a nice 1.5Mbit connection."
There's still a large dial-up market out there. How many millions of users does AOL alone have?
Don't give 'em any ideas...

" The RIAA has to be seeing these CDs and thinking, "If people aren't buying Willenium, what are we doing wrong?""
Or something along the lines of "Look! So many people pirated Willenium that we can't even sell them!"
Eh ... I'm well aware of it. It was meant in humor...
I bet this is a new and uncomfortable experience for Microsoft, eh?
"Perhaps a national 'pirate tax', beacuse you know, EVERYONE is doing it, right?"
Like the tax on "music" CD-R's?
Plus, weren't they trying to get a similar tax on ALL digital storage?
Viva la Microsoft?
:)
You must be new here.
Hmmm ... a laptop that you can't put on your lap. I think they're onto something!!
Nothing like a blazingly fast 3D experience on a 1.5" 300px wide screen.
It's nice that the technology is there, but I can't help but feel indifferent about it.
Or, in proper format:

The tin-foil-hat crowd (on /. and elsewhere) would go bonkers if XP automaticaly auto-patched.
Damned if you do...
As ideal as that would be, you'd probably see a move to MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger before they move to something they've never heard of.

Because 100 broke musicians banded together are still 100 broke musicians.
How is Flash intensive on your graphics card? It's not like it's hardware accelerated. If anything, it's intensive on your CPU.

" Wash and dry a little less stuff in each load."
You mean I can't just do "Whites" and "not-Whites??"
They'd better start cracking down on those overly loud car stereos then! ;)
