    It's not just journalism but Slashdot itself, a once "alternative" website coming full circle to new levels of unprecedented hypocrisy.

    Much as they condemn religious faith for its non-science, "could have" suddenly applies to everything they hope for towards their own political values -- from global warming to life on other planets.

    The "problem" is - as you say - deranged teachers, parents, and psychiatrists. We can "get through" to them by using vicious mockery, social pressure, and (as a last resort) legal action.

    The most basic economics course teaches that inproved technology warrants change in the marketplace.


    It may be that music and other creative content is obsolete as an industry. So be it. It is not government's job to subsidize or sustain artificial markets - except, perhaps, for "essential" and emergency services.

    What good has the United States "International" Space Station done?

    Not that we shouldn't have one, but it should actually do more than just tele-conference with fourth-grade classrooms and give photo-ops to the president once a year.

    If somebody said "you can be one of the 1/100000000 portion of the human race that gets to go into space, but there's a 1/25 chance you may explode in a ball of fire", who here wouldn't be all over that?

    Same reasoning is used by drug addicts... it's a blast to shoot up, you just have to maybe... die.

    Anecdote-- James Randi used to have a radio program years ago, where the studio was located right next to a powerful transmitter (I believe they try to distance the two these days). When the studio lights were turned off, the fluorescent lights on the ceiling would glow considerably... Yet there have been no related health problems, supposedly.

    I don't appreciate you calling me "moron". All of my accidents are weather-related to road conditions. Do not take away Freedom to utilize phone, Global Position and System, or shaving cream with small-sized razorblade while getting on-the-go to work each morning.

    If you are reading this... sometime try browsing a Slashdot story on energy or global warming at "0" or even "-1".

    You will then understand what it means to live in a bubble, where controversial issues are fully settled by politics and personal biases.

    (One might also realize how popular elections are lost and won, despite the "genius" expressed in this forum.)

    Did you know that the Tasaday were a real tribe in the Philippines - and not a hoax? Wikipedia says so.

    If Wikipedia has proven anything, it's that all of recorded history has been politicized. An illusion of objectivity is the ultimate goal that humans work toward - not truth.

    Think of the sinister implications... particularly with a country like Germany and their past.

    Nerds have no place. By definition, they are complete outcasts.

    That Slashdot claims to a community for nerds instantly defines a lie. It is a classic cycle of culture hijacking uniqueness and making it "cool" - thus, destroying its original being.

    Many believe that hippies were a thing of the late 60s and early 70s. Though on October 6, 1967 dozens of original hippies from San Francisco held a mock funeral to claim the death of the movement from its perversion by pop-culture.

    The same can be said of this website. There are no nerds here. None.

    The explanations are so obvious that they warrant no mention. They must also remain inconsequential, since the killers deserve no compromise.

    Those who would dwell on the obvious are simply rationalizing the killings with an emotional goal of justifying them.

    Harassed my ass, they don't know the meaning of the word.

    Certain personalities keep a persecution complex their entire lives - it usually goes back to grade school. They think everyone hates them and is out to make them look bad. It's their excuse for every failure and inadequacy... they would all be certified champions, if only others would stop holding them down!

    Same people believe the Columbine rampage was somehow justified.....
