I got sick and tired of the acution frauds so i started finding them and bidding them up to inifity.
How dangerous is this? According to ebay your bid is a binding contract with the seller. What if you end up getting sued for payment from somebody who's running a legitimate auction? What if someone starts posting auctions that look suspicious but aren't in order to trap people like you and then sue you for payment? I'll tell you this: if you ran up my legit auction you'd be hearing from my lawyer.
Could happen. Just like people say Kleenex when they mean a tissue and Aspirin when they mean ASA? Both are brand names but they're not used that way anymore. I can see the same happening to Google.
That's like saying Corvette's number one problem is the price. If only Corvette's were cheaper, I might have grabbed one! Dude, Apples are marketed to young urban professionals and people studying to be professionals. And to those people, the price isn't an issue.
There's plenty of other iconography and terms that are used in computing but represent obsolete technology: calling your screen a desktop (I even have a little picture of a blotter on my Windows taskbar to get to my desktop. How many kids know what a blotter is?), calling a buffer in memory a clipboard (do you propose changing that name to 'PDA'?),calling a directory a file folder, even the term 'file.' itself. And what about the term cut and paste?
Then you can do cool things like walk into work and have your work phone routed to your cell phone. Similarly, you can walk into your house and your home phone rings on your cell phone (or verse-visa)
But what exactly is the barrier to a significant userbase? Linux is free and you can install it on a partition on your HD; you don't have to get rid of Windows to run or even try Linux. So what is the barrier? If you can't even get people to take something for free you know you have a problem.
It's beginning to look like the adoption of Linux on the desktop is going to take a massive scandal on Microsoft's part. Something like Bill Gates is stealing your credit card number or something. I know I'm going to be modded down for this but I challenge anyone who's going to throw away a mod point on me to reply and refute what I've written.
Monster.com CEO Jeff Taylor was on Dennis Miller the other day and he said that only 5000 jobs out of 146 million jobs have been offshored to India. Seems to me this whole offshoring thing has been blown out of perspective much like other media hypes. Remember SARS? It killed something like 14 people and everyone on the continent was wearing a mask. I'm sure a flood of Slashdotters will reply with their own personal stories of losing jobs to India but remember: The plural of anecdotes isn't 'data.'
Seems like most of their games lack the real looking "beauty" that XBox and PS2 games have. Most of Nintendo stuff still looks cartoonish or like Anime on steroids.
These are video games we're talking about not demo reels. Why is everyone so hung up on how games look and not how they play?
That's why I believe this 1-20 number. This is a relatively closed system monitored by an administrator and most likely governed by a usage policy. Perform the same study on machines found in copy shops or in homes and I'm sure the results would be quite different.
that if that many people are buying items pitched to them in unsolicited e-mails, then it's not really 'unwanted' is it? If no one was buying this junk then I would understand the call to ban it outright but as it stands, we just need to figure out how to keep it away from the people who don't want these e-mails. A free market and free speech go hand in hand and soliciting through e-mail is one example of that. I'm not prepared to take food out of someone's mouth without a good reason. Here's an article where Gates advocates paying for each e-mail. Seems like a good solution to me.
But what makes variety inherently better? The only thing differences have ever served to do is to separate people from each other.
I know this may sound a bit drastic, but imagine a world where we all spoke the same language, had the same color hair, were the same height, and had the same opinions. Not too much fun.
Actually I would have loved this during high school.
What if they'd design it so you still have access to things like battery terminals, windshield washer, oil, and air filter?
At any rate, I'd buy a car that has its hood welded shut. Other than the above minor things what do I have to do in there anyway?
I thought it was common knowledge that Mars had ice caps at either pole. Isn't ice made of water? And isn't it natural to assume that that ice must have been liquid water at one point in Mars' history?
If you need a supposed leak to know that they were going to be released on DVD then...I'm not quite sure how to finish that sentence. My point is, OBVIOUSLY they were coming to DVD.
The Mac prototype was made of wood and so was the first mouse. Nothing new here.

They may. I say "MSN me" all the time when referring to IMs.

N-Gage killer? You mean it isn't dead yet?

Bell has has been offering this for a long time. They call it Single Number Reach.
They also have JustOne

How can it be "the end of online anonymity" if we've never had it in the first place?
Haha. I still read my old Darklands manual just for fun.

Maybe they could sell the parts in a box and let consumers put them together? It takes time to assemble them, hence the shortage.

Are people supposed to guess what the email addresses are? Or can you now google for addys? And what if they wanted to use forms?
one of the idiots who bother to fill in your phone number, birth date, street address and SSN in your AIM profile you get what you deserve.

There is a UN treaty banning the militarization of space. I'm pretty sure the US signed on as well.
This from a guy whose site uses right-handed navigation and unlabeled buttons.

How does one determine the 'starting side' of a quarter that is balanced on its side prior to spinning it?
