The big difference between an 18 year old and a 17 year old is not what they know, but their rights. At 18 you are legally considered an adult since you can be drafted and because of that stemmed your rights to vote. A 17 year old is not considered an adult, can not vote, can not be drafted.
Therefore, the question is not why an AO game is 18+ but why an M game is 17+.
First off, having a different number of pixels by 1 between boxes is nothing. Graphics are not rendered by spacing things in units of pixels, that would be completely retarded! Think of what would happen if someone changed resolutions... Would they only be able to see ~1/4 of the game in 640x480 as compared to someone running at 1280x1024?
I can tell you from my experience that i see pretty much the same amount of information when switching between those 2 resolutions and the only thing different is the clarity of the image.
So being off by one pixel is just a rounding artifact.
Honestly though, the whole basis for your ranting is overblown. Duping isn't a problem, it won't be a problem, and what little of a problem there is will be fixed soon.
Even if it's just a hoax... who cares?
I say get on with your life and just treat this article as a humorous event, and a little bit of entertainment in your quest to become the most ill-informed anal retentive human on the planet.
What are you going to do? Make him an offer he can not resist?
I wonder if it's possible to organize a toilet paper party on his property... the kind where you can't touch ground without stepping on white fluffy goodness.
You might consider reading through slashdot as a waste of time, but every so often you learn something that helps your work life. As with any type of news service, the more we learn about what's going on around us the more we can use that information in useful ways. Granted you might waste more time then you gain in productivity, you still atleast walk away from the ordeal knowing a little bit more. The problem with slashdot is the amount of garbage that gets posted, you just have to learn how to sift through that and get the information you need.
I tell all my relatives, when they want to search for something on the internets all they gotta do is goto http://64.233.167.99/ It's this website called Google. It searches for stuff that you can find on the European network and the U.S. Network!!! I wish they could come up with something for those windows updates, because it's really hard trying to remember 207.46.18.94...
I'm not understanding why they should be allowed to charge more. Does the registration business really follow the same dynamics that other businesses follow?
Let's say the costs to maintain their business follow inflation, wouldn't they always be profitable on the ever increasing numbers of domains being registered? It's not like a buy once and you're set type of deal, you're locked into a service forever unless you're ready to part with your "name".
Free software is free for you to use, not free to develope.
Software engineers need to put food on the table, so they have to get a real job when there isn't any corporate sponsorship. So now after you take out the time from their busy schedules to survive, there's not a whole lot left for a life and helping develope your free software.
Now instead of a stream-lined process where coders can churn out results, you're left with only a little bit of support from those people, sometimes they get burnt out and take a break, other times they lose all their free time and stop supporting the software. That's when you see things bog down and the need to get more people on board and all the other problems that cascade from the lack of free time.
I just like the whole leave your house unlocked analogy. When applied to network access everyone get's into the argument of even if my house had no doors it would be illegal to enter and just take something. What they are forgetting is that the wireless access actually broadcasts that it is there, so the one thing people forget is that it's the same as leaving your door unlocked, but putting a sign on your front lawn that says come on in. Is it really a crime then?
they didn't vote that they were allowing states to re-acquire land.
they voted that it wasn't their job to make that decision. instead that decision is the state's responsibility.
got beef with that? take it up with your state/congresspeople.
I find pc gamming more enjoyable due to the interface (ease of reading text) and the peripherals (consoles don't really utilize keyboards and mice very often).
I need peripherals for certain types of games, and the relation of the peripherals to the viewing device (tv or monitor) also plays a huge impact. The only way consoles could stomp out pcs is to become more like a pc in the end
I can see that happening someday, but by then we won't really own a computer anyways, we'll all be leasing computational power from a collective source (free or at a financial expense).
For right now though, I see consoles great for games that play like movies, and pcs for games that require more interaction. I can't fathom trying to play something like counter-strike or ghost recon on a console, and likewise I can't imagine trying to play kingdom hearts or final fantasy on a pc.
Pretty much everything.
From set top boxes to your microwave, if I remember right the whole point of cell is to have a massive amount of computing power that is shareable by any device on your network.
That means your toaster and microwave can help your computer or ps3 do things.
I dont remember how this works in relation to your neighbors toaster though:/

the actual cost of the minute or so to reboot i don't care about.
In the event that a kernel rebuild is necessary, it still doesn't take an hour to do, you leave the source in the same place that is already configured for use, you just gotta goto a floppy and recover your system.
On an already running linux server, how often do you recompile a kernel and have it break on you after reboot?

You're really challenging my memory! But I agree, what's the worst that can happen?
I just can't wait until we all can have realistic mmorpgs that simulate life!
Anyone know how much bandwidth we needed to play in the metaverse?

How about we make small rail guns that fire smaller rail guns that fire smaller packages...
Now that would be fun!
Put a squirrel on a mission to pluto in a day!
What are you talking about?
Peter Gibbons' job was to help fix the y2k bug, and we all know how hard he worked!
Oh hey... look at what's on channel 9...
Even though you're a USian, you do know that the BBC basically owns all the content on your television already right?
none of those machines were bought with linux pre installed on them so it doesn't really count towards anyone's market share!
