Hey AC he's gotta make a living though.
Is it a sin now to be in the wrong side of GPL/Linux/*nix/Free Software?
The last time I checked we were all humans and we need to pay bills, eat, etc.
Curious Facts:
Mike Tyson came out of his prime [Lost to Buster Douglas, and we all know what has happened after] a few years after Punch Out!!! came out.
Curiously, Sega published 'Buster Douglas Boxing' and he lost the title in his first defense.
Bo Jackson had "Bo Jackson Baseball" and then his back got all screwed
Bill Lambeer had a 'Combat Baseball' game made and the Pistons never won again - and I guess most of you don't know who Bill Lambeer is anyway
Nigel Mansel had a Data-East published NES game, and he stopped being a dominant racer short after
Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball was a great game, but Ken he was traded away from Nintendo's team (Seattle) and he's never been the same
Finally, Kobe has had a couple of videogames, and look at what he's gotten into!!!
Maybe games should suck as much as "Larry VS. Byrd One-on-one" so their stars can succeed.
Although the Stamper brothers are probably still there, Rare had an exodus of developers. I think Tradewest owns the 'Battletoads' franchise?? [Any updates on that will be welcome]
Unless M$ is going to give this studio complete freedom, I don't think we'll see very innovative games coming down the pipe
The past was ver bright though:
Snake Rattlen'Roll
Wizard & Warriors I & II
RC Pro-AM
Cobra Triangle (that was basically Pro'AM with boats)
Off Road
Battletoads Series
DK Series
Goldeneye
I think it would have made more sense to buy Treasure or Falcom.
I agree with you, GS Heroes is one of the top 10 games of the whole 16 bit era.
But it was a dissapointment but at the time, the good almighthty SNES and all the colors and hardware effects could be eclipsed by the talent of the great programmers of Treasure.
I guess that the whole disappointment comes when you realize that you've been a fanboy just because of the marketing skills of the company that you follow.
Any MegaMan after III (NES)
Hmmmm... it's getting boring... find out who to kill first (with your power shots), then figure out the right order, go to the castle, kill the guy with the white scrub riding that crane and voila!.. you've got a sequel!
Mortal Kombat I (SNES)
4 Words: What was Nintendo thinking?
Stunt Race FX (SNES)
After Starfox, SRFX looked like a winner, it looked like the Virtua Racing Killer....(Long live FX Chip)..Hands on... bad, bad controls, and come on... cars with eyes????!!!? What happened Miyamoto?
No Axelay II??? (SNES)
After beating the 2nd quest of Axelay and seeing the "See you in Axelay II" screen, the almost-10-year-old wait continues.
Face reality... Street Fighter II (Various) [Insert name here]
What about when you came back to reality (for me was in Super SF II) and realize that you have been playing the same game (or other iterations of fighting games) for over 2 years!!!!
Gunstar Heroes Kills Contra [GEN/SNES]
Scaling and rotation on the Genesis?.. Hey.. it looks like more than 64 on-screen colors to me...
Time to Acknowledge [32 bit era]
SNES CD Rom..nope
Sony Add-on... nope
Phillips Add-on..nope
Nope.. we don't need 32 bit.. we have ACM.. Donkey Kong proves we can have "32bit-looking" games on 16bit.
Ultra64...Yeah!!!... nope
N64... great!! Cartridges are good..they give no load times!!!....
Who the hell are we kidding?
Marketing & PR 101: If your competitor announces something, make up things yourself so you can keep your products fresh in the minds of consumers, and to buy time to come up with the next thing.
This is free consumer behavior patterns for M$.
They want to know how many hours are being logged to the different titles. The more hours, the more features to copy from those games.
Although it's a big publisher, I guess Konami should have been mentioned.
Hello.... Gradius and the best SNES shooter along Space Megaforce....AXELAY.
Konami should pay Treasure for a GBA enhanced port.
Hmmm.. let me see... hmmmm... I guess that my black Xbox and PS2 go well with my Harley, leather jacket & boots and F-150 Supercrew....
Although you might have an interesting perception of the whole situation, I guess it's more suitable to focus on the software rather than the 'status' obtained by owning the console.
The question is... do you play games to be cool or just to have fun... I've been having fun since 1985..dunno about you.
Linux User: There you go SCO, $699
SCO Rep: Cheching!!! $$$
**SCO REP Drops a bar of soap**
SCO Rep: BTW, while you're at it, would you mind dropping your pants and pass me that bar of soap...
Linux User: Sure, no pro....F%&*$... No Vaseline!!!
Using Sprint, this weekend I was in:
Detroit
Pittsburg
New York
Washington DC
And in all those sites I got the infamous "Signal Faded" (the other end was usually a landline).
Are the other carriers as bad as Sprint?
If Sony is able to make a device that:
Is Affordable
Doesn't break
Has decent battery life (we're talking 2 processors here, plus wifi and all the original buttons)
The only way Nintendo can compete is creating the handeld equivalent of the Gamecube
There are probably business reasons behind this decision. I remember that a few years ago (8/16 bit era) Sega and Nintendo had different models. Since Sega was managed more as a distributed company (Sega of America/Sega of Japan were kinda different entities) there was a need to better define the source of revenue -hence the multiple territorial lockouts on Genesis games- whereas Nintendo was more centralized and flexible regarding revenue sourcing
Lately, the weakness of the dollar (compared to the Euro) probably might have some influence (Nintendo wants to make sure that Europeans buy european games, instead of the 'cheaper' american versions.
I only saw ONE game freeze (Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge), for some reason if you played the game very well, and got 3 stars by the time you reached the train level the game would just stop.
On the other hand, during the early NES years in japan they had to recall some systems and games, that's when things got tough
Besides that games usually froze because of dirty connectors (and the 'great' tradition of blowing air to the game paks)
The writer makes a good point regarding price -buying a cellphone on retail (without carrier rebates/subsidy)- Depending on the carrier adoption, that could really help sales. Also the possibilities with Bluetooth, I can see some innovative multiplayer games, maybe add a feature that while you're playing solo, the N-Gage broadcasts and seeks new players within a PAN?? Imagine yourself playing Tetris against someone unknown in an airport sitting a few rows away....
IMO, the N-Gage is simply trying do too many things, and at the end, it might not do any of them really well Phone/Portable Console/PDA??? What's Nokia's plan to respond to changes? Will they be playing by ear?. Even the GBA has undergone changes (and it still needs two more face buttons and better sound), we also saw the same issue with M$ and the GIANT Xbox controller.
Another issue is credibility, Nokia is great at making cellphones, but in this industry, unless you are Nintendo (greatest 1st party developer), or Sony (greatest installed base - 3rd party developers) or Microsoft (stubborn marketing powerhouse with a lot of dough).
At the end, I think it's great, having the N-Gage, PSP & GBA head to head will only mean that I can pick up my GBA games for a cheaper price or force Nintendo/Sony to innovate.
Long live competition!!!

Why not make software better?
"If you're a hiring manager, what is your opinion on someone who has a Ph.D. and is otherwise already qualified for the position?"
If I'm hiring a manager, I'll look for experience. You can only become a good manager by managing people and being exposed to business environments.
A business degree might help too!!!

"MSNBC" is a joint venture, General Electric and Microsoft Corporation
This is free consumer behavior patterns for M$. They want to know how many hours are being logged to the different titles. The more hours, the more features to copy from those games.
I don't think so, Groupwise sucks.
Maybe another product (IBM... bring Lotus Notes!... which sucks too, but sucks less than GW and is more powerful)
Newtware was/is a great product, but it was very very expensive. Don't you guys think?
Although it's a big publisher, I guess Konami should have been mentioned. ....AXELAY.

Not to mention the Atari Linx
I think your original comment is not accurate. There has been the TurboExpress, GameGear, Nomad,Wonderswan and NeoGeo Pocket.
All great machines , but the GB family has been the only one to survive.
I wish as much as you that Sony can survive, however, it's very tricky to get a handeld machine right.
If Sony is able to make a device that:
Is Affordable
Doesn't break

But then... I could be completely wrong.
I only saw ONE game freeze (Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge), for some reason if you played the game very well, and got 3 stars by the time you reached the train level the game would just stop.
On the other hand, during the early NES years in japan they had to recall some systems and games, that's when things got tough

Can you guys think of other games that froze?
Every time you feel like eating, just pop one.
Oh.. wait a minute.. that will kill you..
Back to eating less and trying to stay active.

Because worldwide the Purple/Black/Silver box has sold more units worldwide.
