Yep, same here.. except I was Air Force. After 12 years I had enough of the government BS though and got out when they were drawing down and paying people to get out of the military. I was on Burroughs b3500 and Unisys 1100 mainframes, and then eventually AT&T 3b2.
I do the "foot off the gas" thing before stopping. My brakes last forever. (100k+ miles) I also get better mileage. When gas got over $2.50/gal, I started driving the limit or slower, and my gas mileage went from 28mpg/tank to 32mpg/tank.
I have a work phone, and they doesn't mind using it for personal use. It only gets used that way by my wife calling me to pick up milk or for me to ask what crap she wants from the store on the way home from work. If I had to pay for it, it would not be worth paying for for that usage.
Are unlimited local calling cell phones cheaper than $15 month? Long distance is supplied by IP phones at either free for IP to IP or 1 or 2 cents a minute to a regular number.
I have a wireless router that has the wireless turned off. My old router died and it was cheaper to buy a wireless one than a wired only one. They do come up open to the world by default. You have to actively lock it down. I would think that if they are open by default and that is how 90% leave them, there really should be no legal grounds for prosecution other than the judge's own technological ignorance.
The government doesn't do it, but the local power company does, at least for CFLs. You get an instant rebate when you buy them in the store, so they end up only costing $1 per bulb. They also pay you to get rid of old non energy star appliances. They paid me $80 to get rid of a couple of old air conditioners. Their only stipulation was that they were in working order so they were actually taking energy hogs out of service. I am also on a time of day meter, so any electricity used after 7pm is cheaper. I run the clothes dryer then.
It's probably just me, but don't all Subarus (except the old Justy) get crappy mileage? 20mpg sucks. I'm sure you could buy a different beater for next to nothing that would get better mileage. An old S series Saturn is good for around 35-40 mpg, and has a plastic body that won't rust.
I've fixed my microwave(new transformer), gas stove(oven igniter twice), hot water heater(new heating elements), fans numerous times. Computer repairs and hacks so much not even worth enumerating. And yes, it's thanks to the internet. I can find procedures to fix, parts to buy, workarounds, etc. Oh, almost forgot to add re-foaming the woofers on my old favorite Pioneer S-710 speakers!
Get back to me when a 1080x is sub $350. I agree, but to add 1 more thing.. My 27" Panasonic that I bought in 2000 still works fine. I see no need to blow any money on a TV until it dies. I may be waiting a while though, as the 20" Mitsubishi I bought in 1987 thats in my bedroom still works fine.
Yeah.. steam is a turd.. the only reason I am running it, is because my son was done with the game on his PC, so we loaded it on mine. Just for shits and grins I started it while reading this thread. I took 4 minutes to start steam due to an update. After it got going it decided to patch portal and tf2. Portal took 8 minutes to be ready to start, which would take another minute or two to start. TF2 took ten minutes to get to a start-able state. Once I have made it through portal and episode 2, it will be deleted off my machine. Hell, I only did HL2 about 2 months ago, and only because it was my son's. I never would have bought it. Valve can kiss my glorious golden ass!
BTW, I just looked at the box and the license sheet. Nothing at all about be region restricted.
Stanley Hiller did it, so why not this young Nigerian? His chopper was yellow too! http://www.hiller.org/in_memory.shtml/
Stanley finished high school despite the many extracurricular activities in his life, entering the University of California at Berkeley at age 16. His college phase lasted but a year: he was consumed with the history and technology of vertical flight, intensifying his designing of a co-axial with the aid of a draftsman, a welder and a part-time auto mechanic. Although many materials were frozen by the War Production Board, he managed to improvise a 100-pound model. Discouraged by Army officials, the 17-year-old inventor lugged his aircraft and drawings to Washington DC, where higher authorities not only permitted his proposed XH-44 helicopter to be finished, but granted Stanley a deferment from the draft board.
Although UC Berkeley had little chance to influence young Stanley because he dropped out to build his business at the end of his freshman year, the university did yield the love of his life, Carolyn Balsdon, whom he married when they were both 22.
By 1944, Stanley Hiller, Jr., completed the first successful flight of a helicopter in the western United States. He flew his yellow fabric-covered contraption himself, although he had never flown a helicopter nor seen one fly. After at least one mishap, in August of that year a successful demonstration was made at San Francisco's Marina Green, where a plaque today commemorates the historic event. The flight propelled the young inventor-who had no engineering degrees and, in fact, never finished college-into international headlines. He became the youngest person ever to receive the coveted Fawcett Aviation Award for major contributions to the advancement of aviation. Eventually, the little co-axial XH-44 "Hiller-Copter" would earn a permanent place in Smithsonian Institution.
Been blocking Urchin and Google-Analytics for years. Whenever I set up someone with Firefox, I do that for them as well. No cookies, no tracking gifs, etc.
I am a PACS Admin at a hospital, and fortunately those types of occurances are rare. Maybe 4 or 5 times a year. Yes, it does suck not to get overtime, but I will say it sucks more for the PACS vendor that has to answer my calls when I can't fix the problem myself.
I just played HL2 and Ep1 for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I wouldn't buy it because of steam, so I just used my son's account. After I finished it, I promptly deleted everything. Fun game for the most part, but load time between sections was horrendous and really took you out of the game. BTW, he got EP1 for $5 through some special deal. I'd say it was worth maybe $10 tops.
I voted as having problems, because I was getting sick of engadget's incessant blathering about the I-Phone. I could care less if it was Apple, Nokia, Microsoft, or Wang Chung selling those. The amount of hype one non-apple site was doing was insane.

They call them there people Paul-Tards.
There was a fun Atari game called Agent USA that did this way back in 1984.
Czech it out! http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=GameMuseum.Detail&id=33

I concur with that statement and raise you a hell yeah! I am very happy to not be in contact 24x7.
I can hardly wait to see Jeremy on Top Gear go rabid because it is clean and quiet. The Stig should like it though.. He is a man of no words.

This world of Warcraft thing, or Steam? Or are they equally as bad?
There is no cake!

I guess I didn't realize that gmail was past 1.0 yet. I thought it was still a beta.
Snap snap, Grin grin, Wink wink. Say No More!

Valve must be run by a bunch Bush supporters!

I'll wager 15 quatloos that that QUID will never fly.
