You think a 40.00 (U.S.) printer costs that much to produce? They sell at a loss, to make it up on the cartridges. I have a guy at work who doesn't print a lot, takes him over a year to use up a print cartridge. He buys 29.00 printers where ever he can find them, uses them until the ink runs out, and then gives them away, and buys another one.
I put my new mobo on Raid-0, and found as far as booting is concerned, it wasn't any faster than my 160gig 8 meg cache IDE drive. The new SATA raid drives are 120 gig 8meg cache 120+120=240 The increase, if any that I see is if you are transfering a LARGE number of files sequentially. Other than that, I didn't really see any benefit. If I had to reinstall everything, I'd opt for Raid-1, mirroring.
I use XD cards in my camera. Nailing them to a tree might be a good idea LOL. They are so d**n small, you might lose them. I have to keep them in the little plastic case they came in, because in the bottom of my camera bag, is sorta like a womans purse! It's a bottomless black hole!
Don't you know that some of the idiots in France
are trying to figure out a way to ban Lance from
the tour race? They despise Americans anyway, don't you know that him winning "their" race 6 times in a row has to be ticking them off. LOL
I wouldn't let anyone cut on my eyes with a knife, or laser no matter how "safe" it is. My eyes are my LIFE, and I take my eyesight as the most precious gift I have. My job requires me to see extremely fine detail. I have past the age of 44, and this year had to get bifocals, which take a little getting use to. I had "lazy eye" when I was 8, so my left eye muscles didn't get as healthy as they should. I've been wearing glasses since I was 8, I"m use to it, look wierd without them. Are they a pain? Not really. Are they safe? In my line of work, I've had over the course of 23 years had numerous run ins with parts of machines flying off, debris getting on my glasses, and that saved my sight! I wouldn't give any amount of money, even if it was free to have anyone cutting on my eyes unless I was legally blind! As long as I can correct my eyesight with glasses, so be it. I talked to my eye doctor this year about lasik, because he does it, and I'm against it. He said that the doctors in his practice "had" to get into it, because the hospital wanted the revenue from it, but he tries not to bring it up unless asked, as he thinks the risks at this time in the maturity level of the field, aren't worth it.
Hey, wait just a minute......we can't make "first
contact" until AFTER the nuclear war, and Zefram Cochrane invents the warp drive in 2063. To do so
otherwise would mess up the whole star trek timeline! Oh, what am I saying, WHAT timeline
LOL.....
(for those of you who take the whole star trek thing
wayyyyyy to seriously, this was suppose to be a joke
message).......
As one who grew up with the space program in the
50's, 60's, and 70's, it saddens me to see how
inept NASA has become. It's another example of
how a bloated government agency can't do anything
correct. It's overwrought with mismanagement, red
tape that I bet requesting a bag of paper clips requires 3 memos. If I were in charge of NASA, I
would scrap NASA completely. Start a new agency that worked exactly like the original. Ever since the "shuttle era", NASA has been screwed up.
Put it in private hands, let private industry get
NASA off the ground (bad pun).
As for their budget, it's typical of EVERY government agency. If you don't use it, you don't get it the next year. I've seen it happen too many times. At the end of a budget cycle, if they have money "left over", they go on a spending spree to use it up before the next budget goes through. Until the government rewards agencies
that SAVE money, it will always be the same

I wish they would just be a PHONE, msg, and (if needed) walkie talkie. I wouldn't have a camera phone/MP3 player/PDA for anything. I have a motorola phone because all the years I've been in law enforcement, Motorola makes good radios. I've always had motorola phones, and they have never let me down. Even after my current phone, a T721 fell over 50 feet down an elevator shaft! I put the covers and battery back in it and it still worked!
As one who grew up with the space program from Alan Shepard, through the landings on the moon, I think the HBO film "from the earth to the moon" was one of the best documentary/drama shows that has been on tv. Well writen, VERY accurate. They did a tremendous job with that show. They used a lot of well made props along with the actors portraying them. If you have not seen this, and you have any interest in the early years of NASA, pick up a copy and watch it. It was a nice was to remember the "glory" years of NASA.
Who cares if a tube or transistor amp sounds better.
My hi freq hearing is shot anyway, so it doesn't matter LOL.
Comes from listening to LOUD music back in the
70's.......Rockin' on an 8 track tape player and
4 6X9 coaxial speakers cranked up too loud and too
much distortion......ahhhhhhhh those were the
days. LOL......
Seriously, I used to love the old glow of a tube
amp, lights in the room off, that nice orange glow
coming from the back of the amp.....
The U.N. can't find it's way out of a bathroom! And they expect them to make a difference in the spam problem? LOL........Ok, starting with the League of Nations (formed after WW1), they ALLOWED Hitler to break the Versailles treaty (ending WW1), and look what happened. After the end of WW2, it was regrouped and called the U.N. Should be called "useless nations" because that's what it is. All it's good for is allowing the other countries diplomats to have a free ride in this country. Did they stop the wars, hunger etc in Africa? Heck, it's still going on. Human rights violations in China.....still going on. Suffering in the central/south American countries? Still going on. And you expect them to fix the spam problem. Good luck!
Are you running the NICB decoder for that one?
I have a copy of that program (since I work for
law enforcement), comes in handy for what we do
to verify the check digit etc.....dips**t's always
try to mess with the VIN, but forget to code it
correctly...
This stupid white elephant needs to be put down.
It was a stupid idea in the first place.....Why?
Because it is in the hands of two (or more) governments who know nothing about how to run a
business. Put the space program in the hands of
private businesses and watch how well it works.
How much did it cost NASA to put the first American
in space versus how much it costs the Rutan group to
put the first private human in space? With cost overruns, stupidity, etc.....it's no wonder NASA can't hardly do anything right anymore. I use to be a big fan of NASA in the "golden age" but not anymore. They don't have a goal....in the old days it was beat the Soviets to the moon, since then it's been stumbling to find something to do to keep the gravy train of money funneling to it's doors. A lot of good scientific research has been
funneled from NASA to the private sector, but that has pretty much stopped, since they can't do anything right anymore. The shuttle was for building the space station, and the space station was for the shuttle to bring people to it. Hardly a worthy goal if you ask me.
Heck, you young whippersnappers!
I had an 8086, Compaq portable. Weighed 30 pounds,
2 5 1/4" floppy drives. I upgraded it to a V20
chip, 640k of ram, and a RLL hard drive, and it
smoked!;)
I have to be one of the most non politically correct persons you would ever want to meet. Do I use the "N" word, no.......but all this hyphenated BS is about the end.
I am a NATIVE AMERICAN....why? Because I was BORN in this country! All this xxxxxxx-american crap is about spliting this country.
Handouts promote laziness, period. If you want to see how well a swift kick in the butt works, look at the success of the welfare to work program. Those that are able bodied, and are willing to WORK, succeed! Those that want to just lay on thier fat a**, fail.
Nobody ever gave me a dime, nor would I want them to. I want to make it on my own, spend my own money the way I want to. If you are beholding to a government handout, all they do is give you jusssssttttt enough to squeak by, theyby keeping you beholding to them (and voting for the ones that keep giving you the money), which, is just what they want.
Socialism......does NOT work, because every human on this planet, has a yearning to be free!
I've been in the photocopier business for 23 years.
Seems with each new generation of full color copiers, they have to put some sort of counterfit device into them. The latest is two fold. There is a "black box" device that detects the color of green and some other attributes and will cause the machine to lock up, displaying a 1-800 number to call. Then someone from the manufacturer, along with your friendly treasurey agent drops by to find out what you were copying. I heard this from a support engineer that a teacher was copying some things for a class, and the background of her original was close enough to cause it to lock up.
The 2nd line of defense is that on any full color copier, there is a row of tiny light yellow microdots printed in the border area, which has the date of manufacturer, serial number and date of the copy. This way, if something sneaks by the
black box, it can be traced back to who sold it.
The last thing, is that the resolution isn't good enough to pick up the microprinting around the portrait, not to mention the security thread, or the color shifting ink. But, take one of these counterfits into a busy nightclub, fast food place, or any other business where they are as busy as a three ring circus, and it's no wonder they get passed. I've been a reserve with the sheriff's office for 15 years, and you should see some of the pathetic attempts at forgery. The funniest ones are where they cut the corners off of 20's and paste them onto the corners of a one dollar bill!
Amen to that! I've had mine bounce inside my
tool case like a ping pong ball, had alcohol, glass
cleaner, toner spilled all over it, left out in
the sun, heat, cold and it keeps on working.
I've got 2 Cruzers, 128, 256 and a Lexar 256 and
that one is on my keychain and has been beat so much that the labeling is almost gone. Sure beats the
crap out of floppy disks, zip disks (click of death), not to mention you don't need drivers (winxp)
The ones with reduction/enlargment had extra optical lenses to make enlargement possible. Plus they had a motor on the # 4 & 5 mirror to move them to keep the focal distance accurate. Also, they had to change the scan speed to make them scan faster, to produce a smaller image with the larger scan area when reducing from 11 X 17 to 8 1/2 X 11 R size paper (A3 to A4R I believe is the non U.S. size).
Merely swapping out a board won't achieve the same effect. I've been in the photocopier business for 23 years, and I know for a fact you just can't swap a board for a a machine to turn on "features"
Mostly these days, to get different speeds from machines, they take a fast machine, and using the timing of the start of the paper being fed into the machine, slow it's overall speed down. It's far better to slow a fast machine down, versus speeding up a slow machine.
I quit subscribing to the digital part of cable years ago, since the only channels I was watching were Tech TV, and Discovery Wings. I was at my parents over the holiday weekend, and scanned their satellite, and was looking at the schedule and it was (or seemed) 99% game related. I suspect that G4TV or whatever it's called will fail, if its all games, and sex tv or whatever that stupid show is. I use to like the screensavers back when it was Leo & Kate, but since she left, it seems to have gone downhill FAST. RIP......it was a nice ride while it lasted.
Typical dribble from a true liberal......
Yes people go to jail for a "f**king" joint, as you say. The reason? It's against the law. I don't think it's fair one bit, but, until the law is changed, you get caught, you go to jail. I could care less what you do within the confines of your home, but, when you get out into public, you have to suffer the pain if you get caught.
As for the law of man equaling the law of god, that is 100% truth. It's a shame that you can't see it that way. Liberal have been trying to remove every bit of religion from the soceity for at least 40 years. That way, it makes it much easier for them to "do their own thing". This country was founded on a belief in GOD. If you don't believe in god, I feel sorry for you. I believe that jesus christ is my lord and savior, and I know that he has a place for me when I pass from this world. God can forgive you for your rude comments.
Why do you think they are working to allow convicted felons, and prisoners the "right" to vote?
Are you talking about the scrubbing of the voter rolls in the 2000 florida elections? You should read up on that. They didn't just remove people who had comitted a felony, they removed people with similarities (names, locations,...) to people who had comitted a felony, but were
felony-free themselves. That's illegal, and it made the difference in deciding who became president. And guess what, They (Jeb Bush's cabinet) are doing it again for the 2004 elections.
NO, I'm talking about allowing people who are in prison to vote.
You know it's funny. Europe has been on the decline for 40+ years and they just don't like it.
I'll tell you what...the NEXT time France is invaded by someone, we'll just stay home. And by the way, we'll be coming over to take our war dead from your soil, and bring them back to America, where they are APPRECIATED. So many of Americas brave men, gave their lives in WW1, and WW2 to save their puny rumps, and they never said thanks. The French people in their 70's and older get it. But the younger ones don't. I wonder if they would change their minds if someone invaded their country......
LOL........I didn't even know the olympics had started, until I read something about it on the web. I quit watching ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN,PBS years ago.
