Ok, I'm not saying I watched all the episodes, but in general I find that Star Trek: The Next Generation holds my attention the best. (Voyager doesn't even come close - it is sooooo trashy).
Lexx is just boring.
And yeah, if Red Dwarf counts as sci fi (i'd classify it as comedy myself), then that definitely rates up the top...:)
I find it weird how everyone speaks about coffee machines. It is not the machine that makes the coffee, it is how you use the machine to make your coffee. A good espresso is reliant on how good you are at using your tools (such as a machine).
Oh, and as for percolators, filters and plungers, they don't make coffee. They make murky water. The only real coffee is espresso;) (there goes my karma)
if anyone forces me to give out information for stuff when they don't need it then i give out fake information (then i don't have to worry about privacy).
this guy should do the same. (actually, a better idea would be to get another job! I mean, come on... Microsoft???)
Our source, Mundie explained, "is a balanced approach that allowed the us to use the code for the original BASIC that was in the public domain, while maintaining the intellectual property needed to support a strong software business."

Um. I partly disagree. Sure Jarjar was overdone, and very childish - my first impressions were that it was very much a kids movie. As for the plot, well it isn't that great, but read on...
However, I happened to have just watched it this afternoon (i just bought the video for $5 in a sale;), and have come to the conclusion that it is in keeping with the other Star Wars movies.
Childishness: Take Return of the Jedi for instance. That has that whole ewoks thing going which is very childish. R2D2 and C3PO are also very childish. I reckon that the older episodes have been around so long that people forget that they enjoyed them as kids, not adults.
Odd plots: Ok, A New Hope, and Return of the Jedi were very much well rounded, but The Empire Strikes Back leaves you very much in the middle of things (ie. builds up for R. of the J.). I reckon that Episode 1 is similar to this in that its sorta the beginning of the series...
I think those relate to the comment i'm replying to. There are obviously more, but someone else can list them if they want:)
Having said that, I still don't think it is the best Star Wars movie.
I saw a tv news article here in New Zealand last night and it showed volunteer kids coming in in the weekends to teach the elderly how to use computers:) - personally i reckon that's a bit of a put down, but it could work i guess.
1) never ever give out your password (except to us of course - you can trust us (really!)).
2) use encryption, but only really stupid encryption so that we can read it.
3) please please please use Windows - it is waay more secure than unix ok? (really!).
4) all your base are belong to us
I'm just about to graduate from The University of Auckland with a BSc in Info Systems (which is just about the same as a CS degree). Starting from first year papers, the CS dept. teaches Java. Obviously with the more specialised areas, other languages are taught (or used) (eg. lisp, hascal, c etc.), but it is mostly Java that is used. My last paper which was with OpenGL was taught using Java (running the Magician package).
Having been introduced to programming with Java, I have been able to use other languages quite easily, but I much prefer OO programming:) (eg. with php, I implement OO stuff as extensively as possible).
I'm not sure if this relates to the discussion, as everything is really long and I don't want to read it, so sorry if it is not. (PS. gotta love that Blue for the titles in/. "Education" area)
Um. I'm no expert in international laws or anything, but i would have thought the right to free speech would apply in this case(?)
The way I see it (and I'm in New Zealand btw), is that if it is owned/hosted in the USA, then the frogs can't do a thing about it. Obviously this isn't the case, but I reckon that sux - i mean, where do you draw the line?
(sure, it's about dodgy nazi organisation sites, but surely yahoo has a right to publish links to any legal sites right?)
Paintbrush rocks (if u are on windows i guess it is now called Paint). Teaches mouse eye coordination. Then graduate to say, some encyplopaedia, word processing, then to the web. I guess games might come into it as well, but they are not that relevant in teaching someone to use a computer. I don't think databases, or programming should initially come into it (as some have suggested)
Cash is anonymous and non-traceable (to some exten). I'm not sure that smart cards offer this. Sure, I use a credit card all the time, but some people would freak out unless there was abosolute guarantee of privacy (and security I guess).
Also, what about the whole thing about the government creating cash... Like sure, everyone might have smart cards with money, but surely that money only represents the real stuff?
um. i know it is sorta offtopic, but has anyone like thought anymore about this linux running on an xbox idea? will it still work, or is ms doing something to prevent it... like it blows up or something if you alter the software. (no. wait. that would be a feature by default:)
Hmm. I think the problem is that people want interfaces to be the same as in Windows (which, if you think about it, isn't a very rational way of thinking - it is only the look and feel that is standard - little MS software has similar interface design).
I reckon The Gimp's interface is quite innovative, and indeed, quite intuitive. Sure, it might take a little while to learn it, but I have, and I like it. Obviously, a good interface will evolve through continued development (that has been proven thus far with the current interface - which is being improved all the time).
You'd be surprised how many commercial products out there (which are used by professionals) have really really really sucky interface. For a free product that is of commercial standards, the GIMP is definitely up the top.
(oh, and btw, imho, who cares about any product
not looking good in windows!;)
ps. these comments are based on my use of the gtk version
My Mum threw our C64 out...:( Sure, the keyboard was totally non-functional (you practically needed a hammer to hit a key before it registered a key press), but its times like these you really wish you hadn't got rid of it.
Guess I'll have to go and find one from somewhere - maybe some museum will have one:)
I had a sore back and a recurring pain in my right shoulder. In the end, I bought a new chair with cool hydraulic levers and stuff and haven't haven't had a problem since.(ie. i started using the keyboard, monitor whatever at the correct height).

at the price of them taking him for the ride.
Sounds fair enough accounting to me...

I'm sure you could do the same with your own work. I considered doing the same with the work I did in a group project for a University paper recently.
Heheh. 5'th element the movie becomes a game.
:)
Tomb Raider the game becomes a movie.
Somehow I think 5'th Element is better as a movie, and Tomb Raider should stick to being a game

PS. Step 9. Remove Windows Key from your keyboard and give it to somebody with a mac.
(well, i don't have a windows key, but some people might)
