  1. A boon for car-jackers on BlackBerry Working With Automakers On Antivirus Tool For Your Car (reuters.com) · · Score: 2

Car-Jackers currently report to your car that one of your tires is flat, encouraging you to pull over. Now car-jackers will be able to report that your car has a virus..... I guess that that's progress, all in the name of security.

  2. Gratuitous product placement on China Is On Track To Fully Phase Out Cash (vice.com) · · Score: 1

Warning! The summary contains gratuitous product placement, designed to entice us to read the article. Still, I guess if a flower shop was accepting cashless transactions, it wouldn't be as interesting, would it?

  3. What's the news here - that only 10% cheated, or that they were accused of it?

  6. In a quest for historic accuracy on Internet Archive Adds Early Macintosh OS and App Emulators (macstories.net) · · Score: 3, Insightful

    > "....realize just how far apps have come since the earliest days of the Mac" In a question for historical accuracy, the archive should be calling these programs 'applications', not the lazy contraction of 'apps'.

  7. Seriously inflated statistics on Maryland Awards 21 Grants To Prepare 'Open Source' Textbooks (usmd.edu) · · Score: 1, Insightful

"Nationally, students spend an average of $1,200 a year on textbooks" - this claim is extremely difficult to believe. Given the 'ready' availability of most common textbooks as PDFs or ePubs via the internet, and even their solutions manuals, where are all these honest fools spending over $1000/yr on textbooks? There's certainly not seen in classrooms.

When wearing your headphones, can you hear that emergency services vehicle, siren wailing, coming up behind you? Certainly not from the same distance as without headphones.

  9. Choosing Google considered harmful on Google Pulls the Plug On Its Pixel Laptops (engadget.com) · · Score: 4, Insightful

Perhaps, like so many of Google's software offerings, the Pixel was just in beta? It's considered dangerous to invest time and effort into much of fickle Google's software, lest it's withdrawn with only a few months' notice, and the same would appear true of their hardware lines, too.

  11. Say it ain't so! on Apple Will Charge You $69 To Replace a Lost AirPod (macrumors.com) · · Score: 3, Funny

How can a single AirPod possibly be replaced!? Surely each pair is personally handcrafted and matched by Jony Ive and his elves, each pair with a unique acoustic fingerprint that's as individual as your refined individual personality? To separate a single AirPod from its partner for life is enough of a crime against Humanity, but to flirtively attempt to mate it with another - surely not!

Psssst, here's a clue - laptops are supposed to provide portability, and not require you to carry around a bunch of extra cables and docks.

  18. Where's the courage now? on Apple's New MacBook Pro Requires a $25 Dongle To Charge Your iOS Device (networkworld.com) · · Score: 4, Funny

How can Apple possibly justify wasting valuable internal space on the 3.5mm headphone jack? If they removed that archaic interface they could likely shave off another 0.15mm, present another glossy graphic where that 0.15mm saving looks like a 30% reduction in thickness, and sell their customers yet another dongle.

  19. Rather meaningless single value metrics on Google's Go Language Surges In Popularity (infoworld.com) · · Score: 2

I understand that it's a failing of us humans to comprehend multi-dimensional data, but reducing a programming language's "popularity" to a single value really helps no-one. But because we're obsessed with such things, at least choose measures that place the weightings back into the hands of those that wish to match the data to their needs. Try the IEEE Spectrum interactive rankings: http://spectrum.ieee.org/stati... where Go performs even better - except for jobs.

  22. The title and the summary do not match on Which Programming Language Is Most Popular - The Final Answer? (zdnet.com) · · Score: 0

Clickbait question - which programming language is the most popular - meaning which is used the most, or which is adored by more people? Never mind, the summary then ignores the issue of popularity altogether, and turns the question into which language is most important to study. Being important to study may have no relationship to popularity, or should we all study Pokemon Go? Amazing. Did the poster first learn the language named 'English'?
