Not the best analogy. Your experience will vary marginally (if at all) between pool tables, wheras your experience between Pong and Vice City will vary quite a bit. By your analogy, why read more than 10 books in a lifetime? Unless, of course, you enjoy limiting your potential enjoyment / growth / whatever.

The reason the SNES had "so many great games" is that nintendo 'allowed' third parties to create them.

If tomorrow I decide to set up shop and make PS2 games and market them, sony's lawyers are going to kick me so hard my shop will end up in another dimension.

I would guess (although I'm not 100% sure) that Nintendo required licensing for development on their platform just as Sony does. Hence no porno games.

To be fair (and this is the definition of devil's advocacy) not all marketing is intrusive. The posters you see when you walk into a movie theater are marketing devices placed there by the marketing departments of the relevant studios, and (MPAA gripes aside) I can't imagine a moral objection to that type of marketing. Again, I think intrusive vs. non-intrusive is the key.

Granted, ideally I'd do all of my mods first and then do the ECU, but in terms of bang-for-buck, you can't beat a chip or firmware flash, so many do that first.

Additionally, you can't even get 93 octane where I live. APR has a 93 octane program, but they also have a 91 octane program for those of us who can't get 93, and the gains seem to be roughly the same. Admittedly, efficiency probably wouldn't be as good as with 93, but what can you do?
