And Tim Conway would have made a great droid. Hey, Lyle Wagner would have made a great Jedi, too!
I think we've already been down this line of casting with "Space Balls".
Then again, that wasn't that great, either. It seems all of Mel Brooks greatest films were all films he started out NOT wanting to do.
I wish there were a check box on my taxes that said, "Don't spend my tax money on military BS."
Not withstanding that the Legislative and Executive branches would NEVER relinquish such power, I would normally criticize such a move. Primarily, it would esculate to groups demanding THEIR favorite despised branch of the government include "opt out" funding on that same tax form.
The initial results of that would likely be agencies spending YOUR tax money on advertising on why THEY should recieve a percentage of your taxes.
Now, if you could not only "opt out" of funding those branches, but also get that money back, that would be pretty interesting to watch.
Bahhhh! They'd still find a way to get their money.
That does raise an interesting possibility. Will EchoStar negotiate a settlement by shipping Tivo as their DVR management solution in all future units. Basically, DirecTV exits the Tivo relationship, while EchoStar starts?
It might be more interesting if this gives DirecTV a nudge back to Tivo.
I'm sick and tired of the debate between "Evolution" and "Intelligent Design". It takes away vital time and resources that COULD be spent researching the true source of the Universe and all of us in it.
I speak, of course, of The Great Green Arkleseizure
Wow! Amazing what constitutes for an article on Slashdot.
"nice" is but a small subset of performance tools, and is the least likely command I would run on a system.
"nice" is fine when you have a series of batch jobs, and you want a specific job to recieve more CPU than another. That's a very small subset of realworld situations.
Agreed. Even so, SOA encompasses a lot more than just "Web Services". A lot of other required products are missing if this is a keystone in leveraging an "SOA" portfolio.
Heh, I'm reminded of the Simpson's episode where they set fire to the robot lab, and a robot flees the building, on fire, exclaiming "...why...why was I programmed to feel pain?"
Very valid point. In fact, the larger systems already allow even larger page sizes for VMM management. With larger and larger amounts of system RAM, managing memory at a 4K level starts consuming sizable amounts of CPU and memory itself. Moving to 16K or larger page sizes for VMM management is likely not that far off.
One item that I do think might should be considered is some transactional overhead space, much like mainframe and AS/400 disk formats use. So, instead of using a 16K block size, you might use 16K plus a 32byte header and trailer.
your brilliant solution of complicated auto-dial systems will probably cost lives

Also, one time cost, versus the recurring one I have to pay for 911
1. Having a choice in the matter helps. I despise the service being government mandated by the FCC on my behalf.
2. Who says you don't have access to emergency services? You almost certainly have a phone with autodial abilities. Have one for the fire department, police, and medical. This was how life was BEFORE 911. We didn't have civilization on the brink of chaos before 911 services. One usefull implementation of 911 applies to cell phones, and I'm wary of that, too.
You should already have them. It's just PC hardware. None of them are MAC specific chips. Intel chipsets for the base system. ATI for the graphics. Those same chips are in a standard PC version.
BIOS is the only real difference between them, and this project was the point of that.
implemented a required "certification" process for IT staff (gag)
AND won't pay for ANY education to help enable getting that certification. Or expects you to read manuals on your own time at home.
WAIT! How about, they won't even get test and verification systems so that new security update just has to go in hot in production. Hey, the vendor for that fix already tested it, RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!
Except that the "megahertz myth" is correct in relation to Intel's Pentium 4 design.
Intel itself had to backpedal hard on that. After all, NONE of the current Intel processor line are marketed by clock speed, but by their new model naming scheme. After all, customers would be scratching their head with the "current" processor releases that perform better, but have a lower clock speed than the previous generation.
My point is that this article states ATI has been removing all reference to this on their web site, yet these two cards still show up on their site.
Goof on their end, or do they intend to support HDCP on them?

Hmmm, and why are "resource forks" a huge mistake?
Yep, correct. I barely remember that, myself.
As long as we don't find out the Cylons were created by Steven Urkel.

Which doesn't negate the Earth's orbital velocity. Perhaps you are thinking of an Earth based rail launcher?

American Libertarian who doesn't believe in socialism
May be the most reduntant statement I've ever seen. I've never heard of a Libertarian that supports socialism, period.
"rsh"? Me strongly thinks you should switch to using "ssh" for that.
