Microsoft's policy with duping/copying is FUCKING INANE. I've switched PCI cards in my home PC only to have it flip out and require a repair install of XP on top of everything. It's just plain stupid. That poor Windows XP activation operator woman at midnight a few Saturdays ago...she got a piece of my mind.

As if they care? The ONLY way to address this with Microsoft is financially. If consumers gripe, but keep buying; what motivation is there to remove the function?

On the other hand, I will also state that if you continue to treat your customers like criminals, they will begin to act like criminals.

The company that is responsible for much of Microsofts power. None too many can remember the early nineties when Microsoft Office was not the lock-in it is today. In those days, WordPerfect was THE wordprocessor.

Along comes Novell, replaces the marketing staff, and flushes that leadership down the toilet.

This is the same company that flushed their unquestionable dominance in the server market, too.

Too be honest, I am more concerned with Novell being an anchor to drag SuSE to the bottom with them.

I question the future of Linux with SuSE's aquisition, Red Hat's abandonment of the home user (reallistically), and the shaky ground of Mandrake.

I would think this is fairly straight forward.

    First, state what is infringing.

Second, state what source you used to determine if this is infringing.

In the case of the standard kernel, detailed change logs are kept in regard to what has changed in a source file and WHO made that change. The same goes for the major individual distributions.

By the way, the kernel maintainers and related groups have repeatedly asked for item one all along. These groups would police themselves quickly IF a true issue was brought before them.

The issue is that some of the contributors to the kernel DO work for companies that DO have access to SCO's source code. SGI and IBM are the top examples. In both cases, the legal departments of both companies HAVE been involved with most of the code that has been contributed. As SGI has already stated, a very small section of SYSV code HAD been inadvertantly added, and later removed.
