    while I agree with the idea, the fact remains computer viruses spread because the unwashed masses don't know and don't care to know how their computer works and what settings to turn on or off to do what they want.

    Do you go over a predrive checklist every time you get in your car? check the oil, check tire pressure, do a light and brake check to make sure they are all working? The unwashed mass doesn't even check their emergency brake occasionally. let alone make sure their car is safe to drive. idiot lights on dashboards are there precisely because the average person doesn't understand what they are seeing anyways and so ignores it.

    yes for some 75% of the population a closed eco system in computers is good. For the rest of us we like our options, however we have to remember we aren't the majority.

    OOXML that ISO passed is different from the OOXML produced by office 2007 and 2010.

    my iphone is $70 a month with all my taxes(I have an older plan that i talked the guy into letting me keep, so i just added data)

    So you save $10 a month over me, or $240 over two years. I paid $300 for my phone so $540 plus the contract rate.

    You saved how much over my iphone? none, zip, zilch. not to mention you didn't taxes onto your rate only the stated price. So we are equal and i got a phone that can actually use AT&T's 3G service and not stuck on dial up speeds of t-mobile.

    (note AT&T 3G's service is highly variable then again so is verizon's, and yes I have compared the two we did some wandering tests at my company over 600 sq miles of area In the end AT&T won roughly equal service area and speeds and AT&T came in at 40% less a year in savings.

    you are mostly correct.

    however you are forgetting about information retrieval. Roman's had running water and fresh baths yet europeans didn't take that many baths after they kicked the romans out.

    The information on how and why they were created was lost. dooming europeans to dumb their shit in the street.

    Hand washing as you point out only works if there is a ready supply of clean water, and a method of making sure the water supply stays clean. Everything is interdependent on each other, and that dependance even with knowledge requires lots of things working correctly. knowledge of that stuff is easily lost.

    No the USA doesn't have the strongest military. In a straight up fight(no nukes) the USA would lose to china definitely and probably Russia(it's close enough to wonder). We would win againist both at sea but the land wars would crush us.

    North Korea would have Chinese backing. Thus accomplishing little.

    Againist a united Europe USA would lose too.

    Againist Iran we would crush the bulk of their army inside of 12 weeks. Then it would turn uglier than Iraq.

    It is something no one talks about in Iraq and why it is called a failure. We crushed the Iraqi army in 6 weeks. The USA. Troops then became police officers in a country that not only hated police but hated us just as much. The war in Iraq was a complete sucess. Police the transition between governments was a miserable failure. However we have to stay until it is done.

    think before you type. The ABL doesn't make missiles go boom either. It heats up and the shorts out the guidance systems, making the missiles fall off target and hopefully out of the sky.

    I am thinking that the X-37b with the ABL (big laser) would work wonders for just this sort of thing.

    though one would want to take really really careful aim. If you hit a large spinning mirror you could fry someone else.

    No the current license says that.

    In Jan MPEG-LA announced they weren't going to change the license until 2016. However they aren't legally bound to wait that long. They can start claiming licenses and change existing licenses whenever they want.

    The only reason they haven't yet is because options exist. It is also why the recent batch of FUD against Theora. They are trying to sway those who might go OGG to enable higher fees later for themselves.

    You buy an HD camera. it records in h.264 The moment you upload it tot he web you are supposed to buy another license for that video. The moment you share that video at your friends house on their TV. You need another license. what's that, you want to transfer that video onto a DVD, that's two more license violations.

    I wish people would stop and read more about the licensing issues of H.264 They are currently generous, but MPEG-LA can literally revoke all licenses and make everyone pay fora separate license to create,view, edits, or distributes H.264 video.

    For what you are saying given $1 per episode all you need is 1 million viewers to make a profit from just downloads. So you use the existing system but you supplemment it with downloads. Now you only get 500,000 paid downloads but you also have 500,000 live watches with commercials.

    So you can pay for 2/3rds of the episode with downloads drastically increasing your revenue as the cable and commercails cover the other 2/3rds meaning your making 30% profit per episode.

    Last ichecked the n900 uses flash lite which only gives you a percentage of flash features. You probably can't play games like farmville well.

    adobe refuses to support full flash on arm processors. ARM chips aren't with the work and thereforeonly get a half assed attempt. Wat h flash for android on arm chips will really be flash lite and not full flash.

    ARM chips don't have the powerto decode flash apps and games. On windows adobe uses directX to offload some of the CPU tasks to thegpu. However arm netbooks don't have enough to do that.

    though i agree with the rest of your statements. I have work, home, and gun case keys on my ring. That brings the total to 4 plus the keyfob.

    Becausegoogle is the only search that produces relavvant answers for me.

    Once a yearor so I visit all themajor search engines and enter in the exact same phrase. Google is almost always returns the best result in the first 5 answers. yahoo and Bing pull out random results at times. Of course they are built different from google. Google is a search engine first advertising engine second. bing especially is advertising first actual results second. Now don't get me wrong google has the same crappy advertising policies but in the end search results matter most of all.

    I type in urls all the time. It ismuch faster and safer way of Internet surfing.

    Besides most links and ad and cookie information. Even if I use google enter a search term to get to some companies main page I then manually type in the address to make sure google isn't getting ad dollars.

    Of course I am defintely not normal

    It's not just hover overs, but things like scrolling(flash can't handle scroll wheels by default), multiple mouse buttons, multiple monitors, etc.

    it isliketheguy who designed apples hockey puck mouse is the primary flash developer. I have been told(as I won't develop for flash ever). That flash has supported scrolls since version 6 yet I have not found a single flash based app that uses them even though scrolls have basically been stanard for thelast decade.

    As for multiple monitor support adobe refuses to say why except for secuirty reasons and promptly deletes all posts in their forums regarding the issue. To be fair silverlight does the same stupid crap. All I want to do is pop a video outof thecurrent browser tab and drag it to another display torun atfull screen while I work on another display.

    You do realize that all newfighter jets do supercruise right? That means Mach speeds without after burners not even the concorde could do that.

    Civilian supersonic aircraft fell into the sonic boom is breaking the windows camp with most countries only allowing super sonic speeds outside their international boundries. Not to mention how loud the enginesgot on the Tarmac.

    Today's private business jets can cruise effeciently at .95 Mach nearly 30% faster than just a decade previous.

    So yes we have given up partialy on the hyper sonic speeds. However we can go faster more effeciently than ever before. To go beyond we need some major advances in aerodynamic engine designs.

    Okay the last one might be a lie, but the sneezing to get my father is true. ry it, Make funny sharp noises at your voice dialer and see what it dials.

    if apple's solution doesn't scale how come in 3 years apple has taken over 30% of the market with with just three models?

    your answer doesn't make sense in the real world. please reboot your brain and try again.

    That and the fact that "mainstream" vendors almost never ship software updates to their handsets. How many times have you upgraded your blackberry to the next version? HTC doesn't support upgrading of android versions. leading with phones with 1.5, 1.6 and 2.1

    The only thing released last week was access to hardware h.264 decoders. The rest of flash will still drive your CPU to 80% usage.

    Flash litteraly cuts my laptop battery life in half. So video with flash won't be so bad however the controls will use 25% of your CPU just sitting there.
