"They don't show up with grenade launchers, sharp knives, bombs, and guns. WBC is a significantly less harmful bag of nuts than radical islam. And what these radical muslims have discovered is that threats work to make people in the west roll over so they can get their way"
I say bring it on, they're only bringing the downfall of their own religion. Who would want to be muslim when muslim equates to being a terrorist? "Oh sure you're not those muslims, you're just practicing the same faith and worshiping in the same church... er, mosque." Even you said it, that even the craziest "Christians", the WBC, is considered less nuts than radical islam and muslims. Difference is the WBC is one church, one place, you join them and you're labeled nut-job, but there isn't a Mosque of Radical Muslims so the entire religion is tainted by these terrorist acts.
I'm not saying Islam is going to disappear tomorrow due to terrorists, but recruitment is probably down since the 90s.
"which is why they had to use the "hate speech" loophole in their acceptable use policy."
And it's clear they define "hate speech" as anything Rackspace hates
Gee, this policy really encourages me to switch to Rackspace and recommend them to friends and family.
Seriously Rackspace, did you have to stick your nose in it? All you had to do is STFU and let it blow over, but instead you just got a front page/. article telling the world what a shitty hosting provider you are. FAIL
recording what our children eat in school is not a bad idea, I don't see it as big brother and the school's response is completely reasonable: "The program is intended to provide the children with more food options while ensuring compliance with new and stricter state-mandated nutrition requirements."
I would appreciate it if my kid's school would tell me what he was eating or if he was eating.
Makes sense to me, wonder if these parents complain when their children take state mandated tests.
Also why is the parent making a huge deal about memorizing 4 numbers? Don't these children know their 7-digit home phone numbers?
I feel very sorry for whatever teachers and administrators that have to deal with Garry Howe, the parent making a big deal about nothing, hate to see what happens when one of his kids bring home a B!
Where is that picture from? That's just awesome, I clicked on this just to see that photo, the two guys in the background look absolutely horrified at that girl.
"I've certainly heard enough horror stories about the review process to turn me off from ever trying to sell anything on the iphone."
Sure there's a review process, but judging from how many apps make it obviously it's not bad, and with 200,000+ apps I'd be shocked if there wasn't somebody complaining about the process.
Besides Android has it's own major problems, like a 24 hour return on apps: according to one Android developer, you can return any Android app for a full refund within 24 hours. Talk about fail, no wonder Android developers are broke when users can instantly download apps, use them, and then return it for a full refund and repeat the process anytime they want.
Sorry but Android is a joke, Google does not make money from Android while the iPhone is Apple's cash cow. If the iPhone vanished tomorrow Apple would be in serious pain, but if Android vanished tomorrow Google wouldn't even notice, so Apple will fight tooth-and-nail to make sure the iPhone maintains it's Jesusphone status while Google will continue to ignore Android.
"It's also just the usual bullshit and propaganda how bad North Korea supposedly is for wanting to defend their own country"
Defend against.... who, exactly? Is anyone invading them? They've been at war with South Korea for almost 60 years because they only signed an armistice, meaning they're going to stop fighting but may resume at anytime. All N Korea has to do is stop screwing around and agree to make peace and they'd be welcomed into the world but they refuse. They're like to stubborn child that's sent to their room for not finishing supper but instead of coming down 10 minutes later to eat they sulk in their room.... for 60 years.
"North Korea isn't even as bad as US and all news outlets try to draw it as. Take a travel there and see yourself "
If you think North Korea is a great place to visit maybe you should go there and tell us how it turns out. In fact go to the DMZ and cross, it will be the last thing you ever do
"Since when have iPhone been about following the trend?"
True, seems like they've been setting the pace. Touchscreen phones were pretty much non-existent outside of the Palm and a few Windows Mobile 6 phones until the iPhone came out, and even those phones were highly dependent on a stylus, iPhone was the first touchscreen without a stylus. Ever since the original iPhone everyone's been playing catch-up, and while others offer faster cpus and more megapixels, no one offers the 200,000+ apps or the huge fan based and the chance to be a millionaire app developer. In fact some of the largest Android game developers have boycott the Android Market. Do I care if the camera is 3mp or 5mp? No. Do I care if the phone offers the apps I want? Of course, these aren't just phones anymore, they're pocket PCs
FTFA: "The combined utilisation of these environment-friendly technical innovations enables the Cri-Cri to deliver novel performance values: 30 minutes of autonomous cruise flight at 110 km/h, 15 minutes of autonomous aerobatics at speeds reaching up to 250 km/h, and a climb rate of approximately 5.3 m/sec."
30 minutes of flight as a UAV! Sounds like those little rc helicopters from walmart
"instead of about $3 every 6-12 months on batteries?"
citation needed: why do the rechargeable batteries require replacing every 6-12 months? After being charged 180-360 times (full charge each day) they can't hold a charge anymore?
Modern NiMH rechargeable batteries like Sanyo Eneloop retain 85% of full capacity even after a year in storage and can charge up to 1,000 times without experiencing any memory effect while only costing $2.50 a battery. I wouldn't mind replacing the batteries every 3 years or so.
Craigslist made it easier, women probably got so many johns that they could be selective. Now that it's gone they'll have to work twice as hard to for half the clients and put themselves in risky situations because they need the money. Craigslist just fucked them worse than the johns did, thanks craigslist!
Also, Colbert is a comedian, he makes fun of everyone. I watch his shows and he makes fun of the Tea Party as much as he does anyone else but I don't think he's actually against the Tea Party or would "point out the absurdity of the Tea Party"
"Discover flaws in Google's Chrome... and you get paid. But the entire panel of winners gets less than $5,000 for their trouble... Something's not right in the equity here."
Well, you could always find flaws in Firefox, Windows, IE, etc and get paid nothing if you like.
$4,337 > 0
I say good for Google. What do you want from them, $43,370? $433,700? They're already paying more than anyone else.
I think she needs more than a $250 fine and a essay. I've paid more than $250 for a traffic violation but what she did was pretty serious, I think a week in jail and the fine would be more appropriate. Our courts have gone very soft.
"It's not a matter of "trust," it's a matter of respect. Maybe someone who just lost a friend to the Taliban might not really be in the mood for seeing a game where they can re-enact killing their friend."
How is that respect? You do understand there's over a million men and women serving and only a small fraction of those actually walk with a weapon in their hand shooting Taliban, right?
I can understand no posters, but to flat out say "No you can not have this" is horrible. Here they're fighting for our freedoms and we're denying them the freedom to buy a video game? And don't tell me "oh well they can order it online" because internet access isn't the best over there and sometimes they don't know where they'll be in 2 weeks by the time the game arrives.
"These default judgments for absurd amounts of money just show how broken our legal system is. If somebody doesn't show up to a court house for a lawsuit in the millions of dollars, it's probably because they weren't properly notified."
Or maybe it's because the lawsuit was BS and they don't have any money?
I can sue anyone in the country right now and they will be forced to either come to my local courthouse (even if they live in another state) or pay to send a lawyer to court. I know that sounds ridiculous but that's our US legal system. Same thing for small claims lawsuits.
Horrible thing is this lawsuit is completely valid: because they did not show up they do have to pay that $11 million. Doesn't matter that they really didn't do anything, the summons did arrive at the company they were suing and just because that company didn't really do anything doesn't matter at all, a lot of lawsuits have no merit and they still end up in court.
" He didn't need any help from political partisans to achieve his stunning degree of lunacy, I'm pretty sure he got there all on his own."
Is he a scientist? Is he a researcher? If not then he really didn't get there "all on his own", these ideas were still put in his head. I agree it's not a political party that did it, but he got his information from somewhere and in his mind he thought what he did was the solution. Perhaps the Discovery channel and other media is more to blame than it really knows, how many other crazies are they creating with all this environmental fear-mongering?
"I knew I had my 20" monitor oriented vertically all this time for an eventual reason - to play this video optimally."
I thought the same thing when I saw this video pop-up: why in the world would anyone make this vertical with widescreen monitors being so prevalent? Any vertical resolution less than 1000 would have a hard time viewing this whole video, and I've seen a lot of laptops offering less than 1000.
Unfortunately sometimes you can't just talk one-on-one to everyone and you will have to present information to a large group. Your options for presenting information to a crowd:
--vocal: just talking for an hour, which is popular in many religions, and we all remember what the sermon was about last Sunday, right?
--visual text: just endless paragraphs so they can read along which, as far as I can tell, no one does
--multimedia: pictures, audio and video that attempts to explain in a manner easily digestible, hence Powerpoint
Sorry out of the 3 options I'd have to go with powerpoint presentations. I'm not sure what the Colonel would prefer, but I'm pretty sure there would be a quiet riot if someone walked in and just spoke for an hour or put endless pages of text up on a overhead.
Thank you for the link. Of course there's no details on how the researchers determined "physical activity" or any other evidence so I still tend to call this study BS because everyone knows 98% of statistics are made up on the spot.
FTFA: " Time spent sitting and physical activity were queried by questionnaire on 53,440 men and 69,776 women who were disease free at enrollment. The authors identified 11,307 deaths in men and 7,923 deaths in women during the 14-year follow-up."
Out of 53,000 men, over 11,000 died within 14 yrs? Who the hell were they following, 70 yr olds? Sure no one died of, oh I don't know, old age?
This study seems to be so full of holes that it sounds like it was done by a 6th grade class, gotta say I'm pretty disappointed that the American Cancer Society put their stamp of approval on this.

"if those android game devs were deveoping on apple's platform they'd be SOL."
Um, Gameloft does make iPHone games, a lot of iPhone games, making $25 million from iPhone apps in 2009.
I'm sure you won't be missed, plenty of developers are becoming millionaires off iPhone apps, you don't have to be one of them. How many Android millionaires are there? After 2 years not one Android developer has made a million dollars from apps. In fact Android developers celebrate making "up to" 100k a year
Besides Android has it's own major problems, like a 24 hour return on apps: according to one Android developer, you can return any Android app for a full refund within 24 hours. Why would anyone want to go to North Korea?! The last journalists that went there were sentenced to 12 years in N Korea jail just for entering the country. And North Korea isn't like France, where if the US govt said "Hey can we have our people back?" the French would oblige, North Korea can keep you and you're never released and no one rescues you.
If you think North Korea is a great place to visit maybe you should go there and tell us how it turns out. In fact go to the DMZ and cross, it will be the last thing you ever do

here's the news article about the 16 yr old's death and 1.9 million dollar settlement. Money goes to the baby, so now the grandparents and boy's father are fighting over the child. For once no one is thinking of the children.
