Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was one of my favorite games from the PSX / Dreamcast era. Great (for the time) graphics, decent voice acting, and a compelling storyline were enough to hook me back then, and if the series could be reimagined with updated graphics and a darker "feel" (perhaps coming close to the vibe of the God of War series) for modern consoles, I'd be pretty happy.
Oddly enough, my wife and I are taking a drive to Las Cruces, NM today - it's the closest Jack in the Box to Albuquerque - and our first "sight-seeing" stop on the way home will be the land where the Spaceport is being built!
Hindsight is 20/20. I seem to remember, when both formats were introduced a while back, the common sense logic dictated that HD-DVD would win the "war", since the name of the format was so straight-forward. It's like a DVD... but HD! "BluRay?! What the heck is that?!" was the response from most folks who came into the store where I worked at the time. I distinctly remember at least a few people who were under the impression that "BluRay" was some sort of suped-up laser pointer.
I'm not picking sides - I just find it amusing that the apparent marketing value of the nomenclature for both brands has done a nearly perfect 180-degree turn in a fairly short amount of time.
As someone who recently bought a used BeBox (dual-66mHz PPC 603) on eBay, I'm really happy to see that there's still life in the BeOS/Haiku scene. Such a fun and powerful OS shouldn't just disappear without a sound.

I seem to remember that Palm bought the remains of Be Inc.'s much-loved OS, BeOS. Weren't they planning on using that as their next OS for future Palm devices? I've been using Palm devices for several years (starting with a Palm VIIx, and most recently a Palm T|X), and while I don't hate the current OS, it's got enough bugs that I really do hope they've got some plan for a more modern OS. Just my $0.02.
I'm located in southern Nevada, and I noticed that I was having terrible cell reception all day yesterday, and I don't think it was just me. I work in a large electronics store, and all day long (esp. in the afternoon), I overheard customers complaining that they were having dropped calls, or at least much more interference than usual. Would a storm like this have an effect on cell phone reception? I did notice at least one or two posts mentioning that short-wave radio was out yesterday...
When I was a kid (late '80s, early '90s), for a couple years my family lived just a couple blocks away from "The Pinball Place", an old warehouse in Berkeley, CA, which had been converted to a repair shop / museum / arcade for pinball machines and memorabilia. I was young enough that my memories are a little hazy, but I recall that on a certain Saturday or Sunday of every month, the management would throw open the doors to the local kids and let everyone play for free on any of the dozens (hundreds?) of machines that were currently functional. I have so many fond memories of playing tons of antique pinball games - "The World's Largest Pinball Machine" ("Hercules"?) seemed to my child-eyes to use chrome bowling-balls, and required one person on each side to push the dinner-plate sized buttons. I also clearly remember playing a pinball machine based on the original Star Trek series...
Anyway, enough wallowing in nostalgia for me - I'm still an avid pinball fan, and look forward to the day when I can own my own machine. It's nice to see such dedication to a wonderful form of electro-mechanical art.
I'm all for cool hacks like this (software or hardware), and I'm always in awe of the skill that goes into projects along these lines (getting OS X to run on an X-Box, etc.), but it does make me wonder - how long before the virus-writing bastards start targeting online consoles? I know that his is somewhat off topic, but I can't help but immediately think of viruses and spyware whenever Windows is mentioned. Then again, I'm an Apple employee, so that may have something to do with it...:-)
There is a wonderful description of the birth of the CTSS (among other things) in Steven Levy's book "Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution". I've read this book at least a dozen times (mostly in my formative years), and its efforts at conveying the meaning of the "Hacker Ethic" make it required reading for anyone more than slightly interested in how the computer industry came to be.
Fiber sure has come a long way from those little twinkling christmas trees we see at Walgreens every year. Kinda makes you think - imagine a beowulf cluster of little twinkling christmas trees!:-)
...starting in mid-Summer. FreeFi's President, Lawrence Laffer, says that...
Lawrence Laffer? Larry Laffer?! Is this guy Leisure Suit Larry? No wonder he's trying to make more money from ads - he's still trying to get that hooker!
Given that a lot of nerds have a rep as being creepy 30-something guys who live in basements, maybe calling the next big thing "Magic Touch" isn't such a good idea...

Well done.

This just in - President Roslin has confirmed that Cylon blood can temporarily cure cancer! Ahh, blood - is there anything it can't do? Huxley

Seriously, it's awesome to see two amazing robotic inventions like these - maybe Asimov's vision of a robot-filled future isn't so far off...

PS I just can't wait till RoboSharks and Rooba's start mating... Land Shark!

Is there really that much money in spamming buffalo?
Huxley
PS Please forgive me, I just couldn't help myself...
Of course, that makes one wonder - buffalo spam? Hey, for all we know, spam's been made of buffalo since WWII! Mmmm... buffalo...

Err, by 'FP', I am of course refering to 'Final Planet'.
Of course. What did you think I meant?
Huxley
Just a thought.

Ummm, don't you mean "...otherwise known as "How Microsoft managed to turn what could have been a fantastic Mac game into crap..."?
Just wondering.
