  1. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver on Which Game Series Would You Reboot? · · Score: 1

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was one of my favorite games from the PSX / Dreamcast era. Great (for the time) graphics, decent voice acting, and a compelling storyline were enough to hook me back then, and if the series could be reimagined with updated graphics and a darker "feel" (perhaps coming close to the vibe of the God of War series) for modern consoles, I'd be pretty happy.

Hindsight is 20/20. I seem to remember, when both formats were introduced a while back, the common sense logic dictated that HD-DVD would win the "war", since the name of the format was so straight-forward. It's like a DVD... but HD! "BluRay?! What the heck is that?!" was the response from most folks who came into the store where I worked at the time. I distinctly remember at least a few people who were under the impression that "BluRay" was some sort of suped-up laser pointer.

I'm not picking sides - I just find it amusing that the apparent marketing value of the nomenclature for both brands has done a nearly perfect 180-degree turn in a fairly short amount of time.

I seem to remember that Palm bought the remains of Be Inc.'s much-loved OS, BeOS. Weren't they planning on using that as their next OS for future Palm devices? I've been using Palm devices for several years (starting with a Palm VIIx, and most recently a Palm T|X), and while I don't hate the current OS, it's got enough bugs that I really do hope they've got some plan for a more modern OS. Just my $0.02.

I'm located in southern Nevada, and I noticed that I was having terrible cell reception all day yesterday, and I don't think it was just me. I work in a large electronics store, and all day long (esp. in the afternoon), I overheard customers complaining that they were having dropped calls, or at least much more interference than usual. Would a storm like this have an effect on cell phone reception? I did notice at least one or two posts mentioning that short-wave radio was out yesterday...

  10. Memories... on Portrait of The Last Remaining Pinball Wizard · · Score: 5, Interesting
When I was a kid (late '80s, early '90s), for a couple years my family lived just a couple blocks away from "The Pinball Place", an old warehouse in Berkeley, CA, which had been converted to a repair shop / museum / arcade for pinball machines and memorabilia. I was young enough that my memories are a little hazy, but I recall that on a certain Saturday or Sunday of every month, the management would throw open the doors to the local kids and let everyone play for free on any of the dozens (hundreds?) of machines that were currently functional. I have so many fond memories of playing tons of antique pinball games - "The World's Largest Pinball Machine" ("Hercules"?) seemed to my child-eyes to use chrome bowling-balls, and required one person on each side to push the dinner-plate sized buttons. I also clearly remember playing a pinball machine based on the original Star Trek series...

Anyway, enough wallowing in nostalgia for me - I'm still an avid pinball fan, and look forward to the day when I can own my own machine. It's nice to see such dedication to a wonderful form of electro-mechanical art.
