Ummm - most people DO want a computer. That's why Macs have a 2% or so market share. Ony a tiny minority of folks want a mac, or even care what kind of computer they have as long as it is cheap, and will allow them to send email and surf the web.
I paid nearly 100 bucks for my 128 MB USB thumb drive (couple years ago, granted) to cart files around. The new iPod can (presumably) do the same for the same price, with more storage AND can play music! Sounds like a win/win. My thumb drive doesnt have or need a screen, and neither does this new iPod. The computer is your screen when you plug it in.
I accidentaly renamed a neighbors unprotected network, thinking I was renaming my own. When I realized my mistake, I wanted to rename it back but I couldnt remember the exact spelling of the name they had used. So, I renamed it "oops". That was 6 months ago, and the "oops" network is still around. I wonder if they are continuing to use it under the new name I gave it...
There seems to be a trend of packaging DVDs along with CDS - something you cant buy on iTunes or easily pirate. Witness the recent U2 and Goo Goo Dolls albums. Thats what the record industry need to do to drive sales - innovate.
Everyone is always complaining that the iPod only plays iTunes music. Apple seems to do little to discourage this perception. But, the iPod plays THE standard - mp3 files. In that sense it is no more exclusionary then the Microsoft-type players. I use iTunes extensively and one of the first things I do once I buy a group of songs is burn them to CD, for both backup and to play in my car. Once they are on CD I can do whatever I want with them - convert to any format, load into an iPod or ANY OTHER media player, etc.
There's only so much time I can spend at one activity,no matter how much I enjoy it (Think of eating a great meal. Now think of eating that same meal and nothing else for the rest of your life). When I'm doing a lot of coding at work, I don't mess around with computers as much at home. Conversely, if my job does not involve much coding, I tend to get the "itch" and work on some personal projects.
According to the disclaimer at the end of the article:
"Please Note: I shall be using double quotation marks in all cases from now on, as single quotation marks tend to vanish in almost every e-mail program known to man."
I can't think of ONE email program that would behave that way!
And exactly how many of those 25,000,000 WANTED to be "Freed"? We cannot impose our system of government on others, especially if they do not want it! Iraqis don't "Hate Freedom" like Bush would have you believe; they LOVE freedom - their own freedom from US intervention in the middle east.
I don't know if you are talking specifically about Apple or not, but even minimum wage is a myth in the IT Industry. I've seen advertisements for jobs paying a $50 flat fee to have an e-Commerce web site designed. Now unless you can manage that in 10 hours or less, you are being paid less than minimum wage - yet still legal.
By the way, all the Dunkin Donuts in my area have been put out of business. Typically there is a shiny new Krispy Kreme across the street from a boarded up Dunkin. Glad I never got hooked on their coffee!
Ummm - for the most part, no. Have you seen the line of people waiting at Starbucks for their morning fix before work? No one is hanging out there - everyone (including me) is just grabbing their drink and heading out. No one cares who sees them there, they are there because they like the coffee. Dunkin has its fans, and thats fine, but personally I like the taste of starbucks better than just about any other coffee (Except perhaps Caribou, which alas is not available where I live).
One other thing - this is perhaps a minor point, but Starbucks seems to serve their coffee hotter than anyone else. This is an advantge when traveling with the coffee (in the car, going to work, etc) - it doesnt cool as fast. They also have the best cups (easy to drink out of without spilling)
when everyone has hard-drive based car stereos (replacing the need for CD changers) and use 802.11 to rip music files from the car next to you. Now THAT would be cool. You could even set up small share directories on your car stereo, turning everyone into a mini-radio station. Sure, probably all kinds of legal issues involved but it would be a fun toy and interesting way to pass the time while on long trips.
If it really works and tastes halfway decent, I can see myself buying these on a regular basis. Take 'em with me to outdoor sporting events, car trips, skiing, grabbing one on the way to work in the morning vs. going to the starbucks or waiting to get to the office for coffee (taking the time to make at home not an option; requires waking up 10 mins earlier!) - endless possibilities.
Database and web programming worth more then $10/hr? I'd have to say heck yeah! Especially when bus drivers and tollbooth change collectors in this country (US) can make nearly 6 figures (with overtime) I would think a skilled programmer is worth quite a bit more than what you are making.
My three favorite things growing up Lego, Star Wars, and Video Games - all rolled into one! Of course, that was before Lucas killed Star Wars, Lego started selling model kits in preference to the basic buckets of blocks, and video games got some complicated that I stopped playing.
You got robbed - I paid $199 for my Commodore 64 in 1983!

Sorry to disagree with YOU, but dead tourists are worse off than the natives that have lost everything (except their lives)
or does Mark Harris look like "Lewis" from the Drew Carey Show?

Bob and Carol are friends of Ted and Alice.

I see that you are a mobog regular, too.
Frankly I would rather have two sides of music than one side of music and a pretty label on the other.

Since I know Oracle, now I can update my resume to say that I know Peoplesoft as well, since they are the same company.

I'm an Oxford graduate, but live in the USA so when in Rome, and all that.
The dictionary would disagree with you: Burglarize
except kids these days all play soccer, not baseball. Hard to do much damage with a soccer ball!
