As you said they (mining rigs) are USING ASICs - they are NOT ASICs themselves, which is what the sentence said. Not implied - said! No shame here for knowing what sentences are supposed to fucking mean.
The author says "... anticipation of dedicated mining rigs (called ASICs)." This is wrong. Dedicated mining rigs may use ASICs as the main compute engine (or GPUs, or Xeons, or Unicorn smegma, or...) but Application Specific Integrated Circuits are NOT "mining rigs". C'mon/. you know better! (Hopefully, anyway.)
Sorry, but you are wrong. The original USB spec (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB) had 2 data rates, one low-speed for keyboards, etc. and a second, higher data-rate spec specifically for disk drives. To me, the whole auto-play thing is bizarre and ridiculous from any basic security standpoint. In high-security situations, they (USB drives) can/arguably-should be blocked whether physically or at the OS level.
This is exactly the type of article that keeps you my home page, despite the cesspool the comments section can become when social/cultural issues are involved. Here, pure-ass geekdom. Ahhhh....
Dumb-ass faux-capitalist/monopolists control entertainment delivery and content. Technology starts under-cutting their rent-seeking behavior. Rather than respond appropriately, ala carte pricing, etc., they double-down by raising prices and cutting "Customer Service" (a new oxymoron!) and are shocked - shocked! I say! - when customers bail. Fuck 'em. Couldn't happen to a greater bunch of guys outside the music industry.
...that China seems to be taking the lead on new technology. All the more painful knowing that this capitalist country "sold the rope" (manufacturing technology and all that flows from that, though we Americans are very great at being "fast forgetters") that the Communist dictatorship is using to so cleverly hang us and elevate them. Sigh....
Thank you! The supposed "Conservatives" who should be concerned about efficiency, cost-effectiveness, etc. seem to now worship Profit-Uber-Alles. Then, as I posted earlier, they'll screech like little girls at real regulation, despite the fact that they brought it onto themselves.
...come into effect, expect wailing, moaning and cries of "How could it have come to this?!?". Well, dumb-asses, you just HAD to grab that extra dollar just because you could, right? Payback will be a bitch if we ever wake up in this country.
...along with: "The check is in the mail"; "of course I'll respect you in the morning"; and "I promise I won't cum in your mouth" is..."(our only goal is) improving our products and services." Unless that is Yiddish for: "I just want more money!", in which case - yeah.
if I were ever to become a church-going man, I do believe I'd have to be a Quaker.
From being probably the first church to oppose slavery, embrace modesty and humility as core tenets of their faith, giving equal voices to women, praying at the funeral of the mass-murderer who targeted their church and killed many kids (I could NEVER be that good, though I do yearn to be...) they have demonstrated what I consider to the "best of faith". A far cry from the Televangelist assholes who seem to dominate here in America. Sad!!(TM)
I would submit that this is basically Trump being the thin-skinned moron he is. However, you must acknowledge that there is a LARGE portion of the "Conservative" base who hate all "Gummint" agencies and would love to see them eliminated or privatized (the same thing, the latter is just a slower process. The Post Office is a favorite whipping-boy of RWTR and has been for decades. Wake up, please.
Well, until/unless we actually have "strict gun laws" we'll never know. Or, we could look at other similar countries to identify the one difference. Video games, right? Nope, others have more video game use. What could it be?.....
You're delusional. While California has slightly stricter gun laws than, say, Georgia, they are still widely and easily available. Besides which, like Chicago, there is no non-peeing part of the swimming pool.
Nope. You are thinking "broad desktop market" whereas the intended use case for these CPUs is that they will be mounted - likely in SoC form - on small, specific modules.
....They do kinda have a point. Hear me out. In a prior life, I worked with a company providing VoIP phone systems for companies to bypass the traditional telecom system. One of our biggest issues (somewhat mitigated since in the last few years as I understand) that we encountered in deployments was the ridiculous variability in latency, which is tiny for web browsing but horrible for real-time communications. Sure, we turned on QoS and quickly learned that it's pretty much ignored upstream. IF real regulations were written to allow prioritization for real-time AV services that were implemented in a neutral fashion, I could support that. Otherwise, yeah, it's Comcrap looking to rake in more bucks. Yawn.
Anecdotally, at least, LSD helped me - as a socially-inept, outsider-type nerd - to develop an awareness of myself and my connectedness to the universe beyond the immediate world of ass-hole family and community mores. Further, actually finding an acid dealer exposed me to a bigger world than my background would otherwise provide. All-in-all a worthy experience for me. $.02

....in their parts department, I can tell you that pretty much every model of car manufactured has some certain parts from some certain providers that are notorious for failing. This is what led to Toyota achieving such dominance today: they learned the "Barney Fife" lesson - "Nip it in the bud, Anj! Nip it in the bud!". They relentlessly send their engineers into their parts provider's lines to perform front-line QA and "kaizen" (continuous quality feedback). Tesla seems like they want to get there, and will - I believe - but as with all complex systems, there is lots to learn (and relearn) along the way.
One, of course, is "the internet" though - IMO - a truly innovative company could easily adapt to that but when you combine the corporate piracy of private equity loading these companies with debt (which, Oh! BTW! Precludes making the necessary investments to make "One" no just less a threat but a real opportunity) in order to make them more attractive for selling off, then you have this kind of mess. Marx called it: it's the Capitalists who will kill capitalism, sadly.
This is one of a plethora of currently closed-source products that could stand some competition! Ignore the nay-sayers, of which there plenty, and continue to push the boundaries. We need guys like you, whether we know it or not...
Combine a Communist Dictatorship with an economy dedicated to controlling the world and.....
I distinctly recall people telling us "why they would need hundreds of thousands of censors to control the internet in China!" Guess what? They did just that.

So, why use it? Between Banshee and the plethora of alternatives available is there ANY functionality only available through iTunes?
