A few questions for those in the know...
Why is the Tevatron scheduled to shut down in 2009? Couldn't there be more science performed there?
What ever happened to the 26 mile radius accelerator that was planned for New Mexico?
It seems that a particle accelerator can do more than just find weird particles. $8EU seems extravagant for one tiny little thing. Any thoughts or answers?
Peace
To be replaced by what? Nothing is gaining favor or marketshare. There aren't cheaper alternatives to leagally d/l a song and keep it. So where is this going? It's now reached the stage of appliance if they've sold 60M units. There are more to come. The Zune will not even reach it's target, even if they give one away with Xbox 360 or Vista purchase. So what is the point of the article, to state that there's probably a critical mass nearing and saturation? Perhaps, or maybe they're setting up the rest of us for the announcement on the 12th. The iPod isn't going bye bye any time soon.
I use an iPod because I want to. I choose to use ITMS. Napster doesn't interest me. Importing the CD's that I buy does. ITunes doesn't require you to EVER use the iTMS, it's just required to load songs into your iPod. Closed formats like the iPod/iTunes combination ensure that the end user has a flawless experience with the product. Let's say that Yahoo's implimentation with the iPod made it crash, losing all your data. Wouldn't there be som upset comsumers? You chose to use a Creative product and that's great for you. If Creative chose only to support Napster, now after the fact, I would think that you would be upset. But iPod users go into the podtunes world with the full knowledge. Choice is there, you perhaps are just not happy with yours.
Apple doesn't require an iPod for iTunes. In order to transfer songs TO an iPod one must use iTunes. The only real arguement here is that in order to purchase songs via ITMS, one needs iTunes. It is, however; not required to use an iPod to listen to the songs. A Game Cube requires the use of software titles written for that machine and the software title needs the GC. If one chooses to participate in a closed hardware system, whether it's the iTunes-iPod, WMA or game consoles, that is the freedom of choice. I don't expect Halo to play on the PS2. This lawsuit should have no legs. The only people this potentially hurts are the retailers in Norway and the Norwegian consumer that wishes to own an iPod and buy songs via ITMS. Needless to say you can always import your CD's to iTunes and use it that way. The music distributors make more money that way!
If M$ sells it direct they only lose $126. The fact that Best Buy will probably get each unit shipped at a minimum of $340, Micro$oft stands to lose $190 per unit ultimately.
If they're posting 9% profit on their boxen, I wouldn't exactly call that overcharging. Try running your own business at 9% profit and see how long you'll be in business.
Should bleed over to the internet in particular. If we are to be the beacon of freedom for the world it should begin with the internet. If we are to maintain control of the net's domain registrar and DNS etc, we should have all kinds of suffixes avail, i.e..xxx. We should allow pretty much anything to go, simply because of the First Ammendment's guarantee of free speech and the freedom of the press. If an ISP wishes to filter domains because of overzealous parental controls, then that can be between the end user and the ISP itself. The government and participating DNS root servers should be 100% open.
In light of the White House's request that the Onion cease the use of the Presidential Seal (public domain since it's the taxpayer's seal), we need this availability moreso now than ever. No president or politician is going to get a 100% approval rating and even those with high marks have always been parodied and satired and Constitution willing, always will be. Political satire needs to happen and let's face it, we ALL need to take ourselves A LOT less seriously. The era of PCness needs to go away. If you don't like someone's ideas or beliefs you should feel free to express your dissention without fear of repercussions.
I'm all for the US controlling the net, but it needs to be it's guardian and NOT it's policeman.
I have a Visor. It was a cool novelty when I first got it. Color etc. But then I found it kind of bulky and it didn't fit well into my pocket. On the other hand I love my iPod. It goes everywhere with me and has become the soundtrack for my life. Cell phones now are my bane. I like the phone that I have now, a Samsung N400. I'd like it a little smaller, but I can handle it. Since purchasing it, I've cracked the lens that covers the screen. And I'm starting to get battery problems. So looking for a phone that's basic, but doesn't suck is near impossible. I don't need a camera, web surfing, horrible ring tones, etc etc. I would like Bluetooth simply for syncing the #'s in my computer with those in my phone. Other than that I want my phone to be my phone, like I want my iPod to be my iPod.
On the other hand I could see the use of a fully functional mini computer. Something along the lines of an OQO, but not Windows based. Perhaps OSX?:-) I hate convergence. I like my devices to do what they do very well. If they do too many things battery life will suffer. So PDA's, dead to me.
is wet... Let's face it the most violent things in video games was a yellow ball eating blue ghosts and a giant monkey throwing barrels at an Italian plumber!
True you had a 12.5% chance of picking the right play, however; if you were playing competitively with the other players it was your skill that stuffed the play. Simple games tend to be more fun. Granted if you were playing the computer all you needed was Bo. We always played against eachother, rarely just against the computer.
They're supposed to break out the 8-bit Nintendo and fire up Tecmo Super Bowl, the BEST football game EVER (gameplay wise). Graphics only wow me so much. I like to have fun while playing a game and Madden has never done that for me.
Records were ripped off by people taping them? How many cassettes were ripped off from dubbing or the dreaded dual well cassette deck? It's been going for years, get over it!
I make it a point to only frequent shops that provide free net access as opposed to places that are "T-Mobile" hotspots ($30/month). It's worth it to me.
No it's there if you look. Also, just to let you know, your iPod will also "alarm" if you want it to. Just little things that Apple's people think out very well.

Are barcode tattoos part of the game too?

Resistance is futile!
Will the World Anti Doping League be there to test the winners for non legal addictive stimulants? Let's keep it clean this year fellas and ladies!

Is there an efficient way to recycle old wire? I'd rather not have to throw it away. How about alternative metals?
Shouldn't Superman have a super unit???

The first step in the demise of Gateway was to start selling plasma screens. Dell started selling them not too long ago.

Is there any delivery system or file format that is truly "open?" There are standards, but not necessarily open source.
