I'm not trying to get YOU to buy it, I'm trying to say that there is some worth in it in general. I'm willing to bet that both of OUR PCs will play HL2 fine, but I wouldn't assume that the average person's would.
Besides, the point of your post was the lack of well known games and game companies, not this. I just wanted to let you know that it wasn't quite as plain as it reads in TFA.
"Oh, they also have Vivendi." Oh, you mean the people who own Valve and Blizzard? Nothing big has come out of either of those two studios that I can remember.. really!
It could be up in a matter of hours, if there wasn't a contract with Vivendi that needed to be adhered to. Valve may be allowed to release it a couple days early on Steam, but anything more than that and I would be very suprised.
I enjoy the way GTA handles ads too, but if I am playing a game that's trying to be gritty and realistic, seeing spraypaint over a McD's logo on the subway would be pretty cool.
Course, the advertisers would have to settle for a partially obstructed ad, but it'd fit in subtly enough to probably be even more effective.
Between April and June, Nintendo made 22.6 billion yen ($202 million USD).
Who is Intel and AMD marketing the brand new high end chips they develop to?
Oh, gamers.
In the Best Buy around here, it's okay to test out things like speakers that would have management eyeing you strangely in other stores. I went in, found the best price/performance ratio'd speakers I could find, and left, to get them 50 dollars cheaper off newegg.
Boycotting buying is fine by me, but everyone (even Best Buy) has thier uses.
Fixed the title.
Seems sorta backwards to limit yourself to what's happening right at this moment.
By the way, even in 32 bit applications, it's still the best bang for the buck. Why pass on it because of a feature you may or may not use?
You said that thinking about a killer app for one platform is the old way of thinking. So, you think of this as *nix only killer app.. am I missing something?
People aren't going to be caused to switch over to *nix for a VOIP app, I don't see why you and others are frothing at the mouth over the idea of Windows users *possibly* getting to use it.
Actually, I think I do, but being blunt with it would be bad for my karma.
So, lemme get this right, because someone can and will probably port the original program, this somehow affects how the original program performs?
I shoulda just waited and hoped this came up in the metamod list..
Maybe I've been extremely lucky, but so far every useless icon in my systray has been easily removed without sacrificing anything. I've got 6 down there now (winamp, trillian, atnotes, a calendar, and my volume. (creative's app, so it also gets me into the EAX console and speaker settings and whatnot.)
So, yes, I can tell you I need _all_ of the icons in my tray.
If I used a program that would not allow me to choose it's systray related behavior, I might need the feature, but.. I have to remind you that your experiences and the experiences of others aren't necessarily the same thing.
It will always depend on the person doing the home schooling. (..the 'teacher', moreso than the student.)
My ex girlfriend went to public school for the first years of her education, then was sent off to boarding school [classic example of the parents who can't raise their own child], and returned to find out that because the boarding school was in another county, she had to redo those 3 years. Her parent (by this time, the father was gone) thought that she would be a great canidate for home schooling. Then, her mother did most of the work without even showing it to the daughter. By the time she got to public school for her senior year, she could barely pass the classes, because she hadn't learned the foundations yet.
The kids across the street from me were also home schooled, and it worked out pretty well. They never had many friends, but they were most likely loners before the home schooling started.
In general though, I'll trust teachers who had to go through years of schooling and have to deal with accreditation before I'll trust the parents that we were just talking about doing a shitty job of raising their children.
I went over to see my friend's new house, and his little brother came in, and in passing, mentioned something about popups ruining his games of UT2K4. I went in, ran spybot and adaware, installed firebird, and put on adblock. He asked me why everyone still uses IE, and I couldn't tell him. But he would still be using it if I didn't help him out.
Download the file, and double click on the icon in the download manager. It will open. It will give you a warning about executables the first time, but it will let you open them from there on out.

For those of us who use Trillian Pro, there is a plugin that sends a message back with a request for a specific answer.
You can set it to say "Say open sesame to prove you're not a spam bot", and require the response "open sesame", or you set it to say "If you're not a spam bot, tell me what the 4th decimal place of pi is".
It's called "SpamChallenge", and a google search will turn it up quickly. (Because Cerulean Studios do not allow downloading plugins from their site unless you have registered Pro, I don't know if it's kosher to link to this. It's not hard to find, though.)
I haven't had much of a problem with SPIMs, so I haven't needed it, but it is nice to have.
But you couldn't find the Sopranos, or Farscape, or any other channel exclusive program anywhere else. That's the drawing power.
If Friends comes on, I'll change the channel, I've got plenty to change it to.
No, I'll stand up to paying for crappy ClearChannelRadio by paying for something with some quality. (If I am going to have to pay for something, I will want that something to be worth paying for.)
Good points.
Parents do tend to freak out a bit more when they see a terrorist's right arm fly across the screen, and leave realistic blood trails (tm) on the floor though.
Although, if parents would quit trying to blame various aspects of society for their mistakes, we wouldn't be having this conversation..
Wouldn't it be great if there were parties likely to get elected besides the Dems and Reps?
:/
Oh wait.
For me it was the facial structure. The eyes and the lips seemed almost comically large compared to the rest of the face, but only when smiling.
I think he forgot to take into account that lips curl slightly inwards when people smile. The non-smiling pics look fine.

If you have an amazon login, log in, and change the font size.
If they wanted to be really paranoid, they could check IRC search engines and download all the various releases, and check CD keys against those.
But, there are true XP keygens floating around (not programs that give you a key from a list when you hit "generate") that while slow, actually work.
Between having a corporate copy, a rare (if not unique) key, and a non activex browser, I'm not worried at all.

Thing is, GTA isn't trying to be realistic.

I've seen people use pixel art in other non computer related methods as well.
Megaman, painted!

You can sue the RIAA, but that would take time and money that the majority of people do not have.

Once that day happens, I'll switch to XM Radio, thank you very much.
Or, an older ATI employee!
