None of that crap matters to most BB users - myself included. A clean, consistent UI, outstanding keyboard, and second-to-none messaging support keep me coming back. The minute I loose one of those all the apps in the world don't amount to a hill of beans.
I'm not so sure. GE has a large presence in other technologies in the Chinese market on top of a long history in avionics. Any theft would jeopardize other lines of business and the long standing relationship with GE. Relationships are highly valued in the East.
David Donatelli, H-P's vice president in charge of the corporate-computer division, said 3Com has a better set of networking products for large corporate clients than H-P currently sells and a market share of more than 30% in the China networking market. With the deal, Mr. Donatelli said, "we get industry-leading products."
Wow, they paid $7.90 per share, a 39% premium over today's closing price. Earnings are anemic but at least they are in the black. It will be interesting to see what HP had in mind. I'm still trying to comprehend how this was the best use for $2.7 billion in cash.
I think to be fair here Market Cap has nothing to do with projected value, it is simply the current share price multiplied by the number out outstanding shares.
To the grandparent's point, stockholder equity, which is total assets less of total liabilities is kept on the books at the issuing price of the stock, not the current market value. Apple's stock has simply appreciated since it has been issued - weather or not is has appreciated too much is something Wall Street will figure out.
well, it's the difference between an MBA making a business call based on cost/profit analysis All profit-seeking companies do this. This is not an inherently bad thing - you wouldn't have a job otherwise.
MBAs are good in cutting corners in traditional businesses, but generally have no understanding of technology risks.... So if you have business savvy you can't possibly understand technology risks? Oh please.
I run a small VMware shop and one of the added benefits for us has been that we are able to corral Windows rather then extend our use of it. ESX Server 3.0.1 is very stable, we can patch and reboot on our terms. Windows in general has proven to be far less reliable, so running Windows VMs on Windows would just compound our problems. Sure, MS will stress virtulization in Longhord, but will jaded admins like myself do the same? I think not.
is wasteful. I'm glad to see Intel back in the mix with some good offerings. I think those of us whom are fickle come out on top: you buy what makes sense. Fanboys step back!
EA's sports titles on the Wii-mote sounds excellent to me. If they implement the analog control well, it might become the preferred platform for sports games. Seeing these titles excel on the Wii should boost Nintendo's street cred.
This is a perfect application of the escrow process; I work at a wholesale mortgage bank and that's how transactions are conducted. Perhaps Ebay should make in manditory to use an escrow service for purchases over $100. Using an escrow service: Buyer pays the escrow company in full, escrow tells the seller to release the product to the buyer, once buyer is satisfied, escrow disburses the funds to the seller. Forgive my ingnorance since I don't use Ebay regularly but I understand they offer escrow services and since escrow gets a cut of every transaction, I would think Ebay would want to push its usage.
As Sun announces Solaris support for Red Hat Linux applications, the need to specify the OS for a particular application will fade away, and the application and the x86 platform become the critical things
This sounds a lot like the promises made by SUN circa '97 when the Java propaganda machine was in full swing. Though I do think this sort of cross compatibility is more attainable then the goals originally set by the Java project--I commend the effort.
My predecessor spent too much [so] I was told not to spend any money
Why can't you leverage what has already been purchased? The fact that you a moving away from Windows implies you have spent a good deal of money on Windows already. You are willing to just walk away from that investment? I hate to say it but Windows done properly is at least manageable.
The article hardly mentioned x86. The author assumes Intel == x86. Upon reading the headline I assumed it would be Intel making PowerPC chips. In my opinion PowerPC was the best thing Apple had going hardware wise.
I prefer XP over 2k in the enterprise environemnt because of two things:
Remote control via Remote Desktop Protocol (terminal server)
Being able to set active directory permissions on just parts of the registry (to accomodate those apps that want to run as local admin) so I don't have to put everybody in power users or admininstrators.
oh man you said USPS, gotta stop drinking at work.
The joke's on you, UPS does not handle US Mail!

Mod Parent double plus good. Got any razors?

Thanks for this, now I really don't have to read all 10000 words in that article.
They're just talking about cloning, not artificially growing tissues. These animals will have all the usual parts!
"Microsoft flubs operating system design, putting world at risk"
Exactly. Some are probably holding their breath (suffocating?) for Vista as well.

I don't give a rip about uptime per se. What I care about is being able to reboot on my terms..and sadly...Windows usualy sets those terms.

How about, "The browser formerly known as Firefox"
with, "we're gonna' browse like it's 1999"
This should have hit the main page in my opinion.
