Look. Everyone wants a Lamborgini for the price of a Chevy. Cute. Yawn. Half of the Ask Slashdot questions are people who didn't find what they want at Walmart. Despite the amazing Slashdot advice, Ask Slashdot answers have somehow failed to put EMC, IBM, HP, etc. out of business. There is no free lunch.
Just call EMC, get a rep out, and give the paperwork to your boss. Do it today instead of 5 months from now and you will have a much better holiday season.
Note to moderators and other finger pointers: I did not say to BUY from EMC, I just said to show his boss how and why to do things the right way. It does not hurt to get quotes from the big vendors, mainly because the quote also comes with good, solid info that you can share with the PHBs. Despite what you think about "evil" tech sales persons and sales engineers, you actually can learn from them.
I'm torn on this question. Belief is a weird thing. Belief in "god". No. Belief in a plausible scientific theory? Yes.
I do not "believe" in god. I do "believe" that there is enough science to show that there MAY be life on other planets. Whether that life be some simple RNA/DNA replicating structure... I don't konw.
Anyway, long story short, the aliens have got a leg up on the god thing with me at this point.
Space weapons? Just like in Star Wars? Cool! And on the evening of the Star Wars premiere to boot!
I can't wait for my light saber. Of course, they will develop a Death Star(tm) first. But light sabers will definitely be second! We're getting light sabers!
The same judge ruled that bypassing Firefox's pop-up blocking was not only allowed, but encouraged by the judicial system.
Slashdot editor's were said to no longer care about linking to pop-up ad sites, but stated that they would make it a policy when linking to dupe stories.
The "official"/preferred name is now "notebook computer".
This heat problem always seemed very obvious to me and I avoided placing a notebook computer on my lap. My current preferred model (a Vaio) generates much less laptop heat (but more side vent heat) then my old Dell sub-notebook.
One word... Metadata. Date, names, subject matter. Position...
People HATE putting information in with their music or photos. Or video, for that matter. This is why freedb and such services are so fricking popular.
The iPod needs metadata. People will not suddenly start putting information along with their photos.
Marketers and salespeople have been doing this since the dawn of trade. What's the big deal? Just another stupid reason for michael to have a hissy fit over "evil corporations"?
"Flash!!! People who sell stuff try to get people to buy more of it! Film at 11!!!!"
It is nature that evolved for us the ability to make such mofications. Therefore, GM is natural. If nature doesn't like it, it should stop evolving intelligence.
Us "idiot humans" have evolved the technology to currently sustain 6 billion of our species and rule almost every corner of the earth. Doomsdayers have been around since the dawn of man.
Sheesh. What a waste. I'd have more respect if they visited every White Castle or all of the Ikea stores.
The only benefit I can see from this is that it is a great target for sarcasm and ridicule. Beyond that, I'm at a loss. And how does this qualify as newsworthy on Slashdot?
Funny how the lousy 1 character links (Thanks Michael!!! not) are just 2 stories above a story about lousy UI design. Go figure.
What ever happened to letting us know where the links to go? For some reason, I have a feeling that single character links are not what Tim Berners-Lee had in mind for this thing.
Nice. Link in the story to www.google.com. Wow. Relevant... NOT!!! It's like linking to www.yahoo.com or www.slashdot.org. Yeah. Thanks for putting the link there because otherwise, we'd never find it. Is it mirrored in case it gets slashdotted?
So easy to check, michael, and you failed again. The Picaso link is not there. Ever think of checking the story before you post it? It's on the UK site, not the US site.
My god. How lame and lazy yet again. Go save a rain forest, jerk.
The slashdot writeup makes it sound like 30,000 desktops. Rather, this is just the servers , not their desktop machines. No big deal here, as we already know that Linux is often a preferred back end. Call me when a US corporation or government agency moves 30,000 desktop users to Linux.
But my main point is that the slashdot writeup gives a false impression.

Looks like they count iTunes New Music Tuesday newsletter as spam.
Does this mean we sign up Steve for a bunch of catalogs and junk mail to be sent to his home address?
And why do almost all of the points on the map say 100 Emails received? Seems odd.
I think this is not exactly what it's cracked up to be.
Hello, Comcast?
I want my ChannelNewsAsia!
Or a link. Whichever.
I'm Slashdotted and I can't get up!

Therefore, the Photo iPod will fail.

Humans rock.
What is with these units of measure? Isn't the term "Gigabyte" accepted in these parts?
If you are trying to impress, why not just say 1 Billion Bytes!! Or 8 Billion bits??
Oh, and here in grown-up land, we also put a comma after the thousands. "1,000" please.
Sheesh. What a waste. I'd have more respect if they visited every White Castle or all of the Ikea stores.

Yes I should.
He gets PAID for that in a very PUBLIC forum. I don't get paid for accuracy, timeliness, and relevancy on Slashdot. I do it gratis.
He is held to a higher standard. Now do you get it, jerk?

Get back to working on Star Wars, you lazy bum. And do it right this time!
Good thing that Bush invaded Iraq. Now we get to have a daily Linux in Iraq Slashdot story.
If we hadn't invaded, we be stuck with all those "Windows 98 in Afganistan" success stories. And we all know how painful THAT can be.
Sorry, I meant revenue, not earnings.
Novell with a lousy billion in earnings is MAJOR? What? Not even profitable. Go figure...
Apple? How does Apple run Linux? OS X is BSD based.
Call me when you get a clue.

Well, I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to "request my refund".
Don't believe everything you read, jerk.
I have a 50 MB Yahoo! Plus! Account!. My friend has a 25 MB! Yahoo! Plus! Account!
What will I get for the extra money I gave them? 2 GB? 4 GB? A dedicated server?
They also sent out messages to paying customers overnight that they are over their limit now.
My 0% of 25 MB used resulted in me getting an email that I was over my 2 MB limit.
After paying their ridiculous fee and getting such crappy support and jerky emails, I welcome the switch to GMail.
I bet one MILLION dollars...
I bet one BILLION dollars that spam out does porn.
