Hmm I don't think so.. I am the Guild Leader of a mid sized guild and play a level 60 Rogue as my "main".. I play quite a bit (4-5 days a week). I was just in Stratholme last night, getting wiped in a "comedy of errors" style pick-up group in the Scarlet side of the instance. lol
I also follow the forums and community sites on a daily basis - thank you!
Not really sure what you've been inhaling, but pass some my way!:P
One thing you might not realize about WoW (because you are out of the loop, perhaps?) is that each sever really has it's own community and runs a bit differently, especially the RP servers. You play on a heavily populated server - sucks to be you, sorry.
I have seen what it's like on busy servers, and you are right, it does SUCK bad. The lag is TERRIBLE in IF and the BG queues are ridiculous. My close friend plays Alliance on one of the original two dozen servers, so I know what it's like and I stated those issues in my first post.
If it REALLY bothered you that much, you'd either have quit by now, or transferred your character to another server using Blizzards's transfer tool. There's what, a flippin hundred other servers to play on??
The fact that you still play is a testiment to the game's creative design, current playability and future potential... or you're jus a stubborn bastard and don't want to leave your friends/guild who are too stubborn to change servers;)
And as far as the economy goes - it sucks your server, not on mine (but it's slowly getting there).
PPS. Yes, their CS IS non-existent.
With 2 million accounts... for every unhappy customer, I'm sure there's 10,000 happy ones - myself included. Some people are simply unreasonable (while other DO have valid complaints).
WoW is the best MMOG "experience" since UO/EQ and AC1, hands down.
It has issues and waits in a queue (on busy servers or if you are playing Alliance), lag, yes.. but I'm still impressed - and I've played a dozen MMOG's in the past 8 years..
Considering in games like EQ where you had to schedule end-game raid with "uber guilds" who basically controlled the high-end dungeons...
or farmers who ruin economies in Final Fantasy Online (and who are TRYING in WoW)...
or totally UNPLAYABLE launches like Anarchy Online...
or people who get KILLED in RL over the game (Lineage)...
I think the problems with WoW are par for the course - honestly. Do they have money to throw at the issues? Sure.. but this is corporate America here guys! The basic economics are to keep it up and running RELATIVELY smoothly, while maximizing your profit in every area possible...... and I'm no Blizzard fanboi either, I'm simply giving credit where credit is due.
I had been running BBS's back when I was like 14 years old.. had a Tradewars board called "Rebel Space" that ran Remote Access..
That later graduated into "Realm of Terror" and "Inquisition" running Renegade.. which turned into a discussion forum for all the Hackers, Phreakers and Pirates in the Portland area (it was primarily a message board with some online door games).
Hell, I remember when leet speak was first damn invented! It was on my message board, I swear (ok maybe not)! I remember it vividly; someone started talking in wierd characters (forum post) and everyone else was trying to figure out what they was saying.. then someone else came on and knew what he was saying, then another.. then it cascaded from there.. this was back in the early to mid 90's..
Met a lot of cool guys.. went to a lot of parties, learned how to make free phone calls, got on all the hot Warez BBS's due to my "references" of all these "elite" people on my BBS... smoked a lot of pot.. met my first g/f (which still to date, was the best one I ever had, a cute geek girl - I'm such a FOOL!!)

Frankly.. the PSP is great for Sony and not so great for the comsumers - considering all the extra money you have to spend beyond the initial purchase price.
Call me a GBA fanboy, but I've spent a total of $30, MAYBE $40 TOTAL on "EXTRA" things for my GBA besides what comes with the unit and games. Sony seems to want to milk us for everything we're worth:(.
I'd consider it a LITTLE better value when the unit drops down to $150 and comes with a decent game. Probably won't happen until after XMas 2005 though.
"If your job is such a hardship, go work for somebody else."
I guess its the American way (lazy) to tuck your tail between your legs and move on to the next job, so to speak?
Whatever happend to fighting for what's right or fighting for a cause that you believe in? Why does everyone just give-up now a days? Because you are one person versus a large corporation?
Maybe I'm too inspired by all these super-hero movies that have been coming out of the years...
Or just naive. lol
It's basically worthless unless you can adjust the sensitivity.. looks like they saw the niche, but didn't acctually RESEARCH anything before pumping out a sub-par product..:(
Then again, would it really be FAIR if you could adjust the sensitivity of the mouse/device?
I thought WoW had like 500K beta accounts/testers?
The bean counters were either sleeping or stupid.
How could they NOT have seen this coming?
Are they are full of BS?
or more likely:
This is an example of a large corporation with very slow turning wheels when it comes to planning/changing plans.
I give them credit for having a backup plan in the first place... but personally, I expect MORE of Blizzard. So many beta accounts should have been an obvious indicator for what was in store, I would think..?
Maybe someone knows the answer to this:
My friend got the Collectors Edition that came with DVD + CD version and a buddy key.
He offered it to me, along with one of his versions (CD install version), if I wanted to play.
Does anyone happen to know if I can use that key and upgrade it to a normal account (I think it's a 10-day trial account)?
Do I still need to purchase the retail game, or just install and use the buddy key?
You are about 99% correct though. The only time 'nice guys' get girls is when the DO 'settle', except in extreme cases, or get lucky (seriously... lucky)
Very true. The numbers I saw about 2 weeks ago put EQ2 at around 200,000 active accounts (I think I saw it on Slashdot??), with WoW at just under 300,000 active accounts - it was in that neighborhood somewhere. Regardless, EQ2 had quite a bit more than everyone thought and it had and is at least COMPARABLE to WoW's subscribers.
"No one cared" eh? OKAY!
In other words.. HARDLY 'no one cared'. The author of that list is DEFINATELY baised and it's easy to tell by reading a few of the other items in this "list of lows".
But everyone's entitled to their opinion!
(for the record, I play WoW and EQ2)
Perhaps I was remembering MORE REASONS to go out and buy a new XBox.. things to come, per say. Ever think of it like that? That's exactly what I meant.
Since you want a list of current GOOD games, how about: Burnout 3, Splinter Cell (both), Prince of Persia, Ninja Gaiden, PGR, Fable, Soul Calibur II, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Madden 2K5. Wait, there's more...
No they don't dude. The old NES's, you had to blow in the cartidge to get them to work. It was a cartridge problem AND a system defining problem.
More recently, a number of first generation PS1's were defective to the point where you had to turn them upsidedown, or even mod them in order to get them to play properly. Sometimes they broke in general. A local store of mine was replacing PS1's for FREE if you still had your receipt. My friend took his back. Shortly after, so had I too. Unlike Microsoft, who wants $80 plus shipping (another $10-15) to fix the defective first and even SECOND generation Xbox's.
On the flip side, I've also had some earlier consoles that have lasted me since I was about 6 years old.
And I wasn't saying PC's were less work, I was saying that *I* CAN FIX my own PC a lot easier than I can fix my own Xbox. I'm willing to bet the same goes true for a LOT of people on here.
So yes.. the only point you were really correct on was "You can argue a lot of things....".
Hmm.. Lets see..
Fact: Lotta Halo fans ARE lemmings, myself included.
Fact: There have been way more impressive FPS's on the PC than on ANY console.
Fact: People ARE stupid. What world are you guys living in?
Troll me some more, please.. use your mod points so you don't F' up other peoples threads.
Go ahead and mod me Off Topic.. but I need to interject here.
Why does everyone still think there aren't f'in FANTASTIC games for the Xbox??
Seriously people.. I don't mean to flame here (but so be it), crawl out from your little holes.
My Xbox broke recently.. (!!!!) I wasn't going to buy another one at first.. then I remember I didn't even pay for my Xbox in the first place. Then I remembered:
Jade Empire
KOTOR 2
Kingdom Under Fire
Starcraft Ghost
just to name a FEW.. so I made up my mind and I'm going to to get a new one tomorrow.:)

Yeah, but at least if your PC physically breaks down, you don't have to break out a friggen soldering iron to replace the DVD Drive or ship it MS to have it fixed.
Yes, I know you can SOMETIMES buy 'plug-n-play' replacement XBox parts off Ebay and the likes.. point is, if my PC breaks, I can EASILY fix it.. unlike an Xbox, where if you want to FIX it yourself, you're soldering, cutting cables and plastic and all sorts of crap like that.

Halo 1 just didn't impress me.. maybe it was lack of keyboard and mouse controls at the time.. or the fact that I've seen better graphics and game play on PC FPS's like BF1942 or Joint Ops..
I'll get Halo 2, but only because I'm a pathetic lemming like the rest of you! hehe
I think Slashdot should hold a little.. phone party. Know what I mean?
Lets voice our opinion on this bill (I mean this in a legit way, not nefarious), all on the same day, same time (as best we can).. I bet we can surely./ the Capitol Hill phone system. Think they'd get the point?
I agree.. Plain old MMO, just a different setting.
I played the game for.. about 3 months when it first came out.. was in a SG with my friends, did nothing BUT Missions to level up (except the times when I RAN OUT of missions and had to "gring" to level and get more missions).
It is a good game, but it's definately NOT worth $15/mo. If it had City of Villians already built in (as it should have), then I could see paying $15/Mo. Like Star Wars Galaxies without STARS = NOT WORTH $15/Mo. CoH had a shortage of cotent, repeative missions, severe lack of outdoor map distinctions (City, Industrial, Slum) with very little variance between them. The indoor maps were worse, basically 5 or 6 different types of maps, that was it. I was leveling at a decent rate, but not fast - I made it into the 30's with my main hero.
The mission STORY arcs were AWESOME though, at least the ones that WORKED. Many (especially above level 20) were BROKEN and uncompletable. I'm sure that's fixed now, but it was a serious issue for many people a few months into the game. Missions past level 20 also really dried up very quickly (IE, lack of content complaint).
Was it a fun game? Yes, until you basically saw everything and ended up doing the same repetative tasks and missions day in and day out. Especially without PvP, combined with all the other issues at the time, the game just wasn't worth $15/mo. The only thing that kept me playing for the three months were the interesting stories. It really felt like a shell of a game, sorta like when AC1 first came out (but AC1 still had more content than CoH did!)
I'm a Microsoft supporter. I prefer Win2K3 over Linux for my back end apps, especially in "everyday" environments. I'll run MS over *nix anyday of the week and twice on Friday's (when I get to go home and swill a beer!). Open Source definately has it's place, and it's a very small place, in my opinion.
However, comma, Firefox totally owns IE in every way imaginable. I'm glad Mozilla got their act together (I say that because I feel it was a crummy browser about a 8-12 months ago). I make a serious effort to put FireFox on every machine I touch, if possible. Comparing IE to FireFox is like comparing a Ford Rambler to a Mustang! The reduction in Spyware ALONE makes it worth it!
I was at one of my customers' home doing some work on a couple of her PC's. Last time I was there, I had installed FireFox on this lady's main PC so she could get used to it - this is a 55 year old, techno-scardy cat I'm talking about, BTW. Anyway, so when I was there again doing some work, I was upgrading her to SP2 so I ran a Spyware scans on both her PC's before I installed it. Take note, I ran a spyware scan on both her PC's previous, about 2 weeks prior.
Guess what? Her FireFox machine had NONE!.. well it had the one "DS Exploit" that it ALWAYS detects..
Another thing I'd like to add..
People are always bringing up the fact that it "costs so much money" to develop and RUN an MMORPG. But what you NEVER hear is how much PROFIT these companies are making off their games. Why? Because they don't want us to know that they are price gouging us. Do you realize how much money EQ makes.. or even SWG?
It costs money to make games.. have a support staff, ongoing development, bandwidth.. I think I know roughly what it would cost to run a game. I've worked on enterprise level networks before, many times. I've talked with vendors who want to provide hosting and bandwidth and support that cost in the millions for the contract. I've been around the higher end IT industry AND the gaming industry for years now. Do you really think these companies would be making these games if they didn't turn a profit? Do you really think a shitload of companies jumped on the MMORPG bandwagong because they only make MINIMAL profit?
