If the rotors have independent speeds of course they will smack each other given they are nearly in the same plane.
I would expect the rotors must be counter-rotating. Otherwise, once the helicopter got airborne, the pilot would start spinning around in the opposite direction as the rotors. That's why "regular" helicopters have the tail rotor - to balance out that force.
It seems to me that markets are nothing more than a scam.
True, but at least everyone has equal opportunity to be the scammer, as much as the scamee.

Say I register Bill.com and someone writes a book about Bill Gates' secret life as a modern day Robin Hood, stealing from everyone and giving a portion back to the poor. Would I be allowed to tell them that they couldn't call it Bill.com? Fuck no I couldn't. Just because I own a domain name doesn't give me exclusive rights to tell other people what to do with the name.
I don't think this is about the name, is it? I expect the publisher can call the book whatever they like (including someone's domain name, if it's not trademarked). The issue here is that the publisher thinks they can force her to turn over the domain name, which is positively ludicrous.
Katie Jones is the rightful owner of the domain. Penguin knew she owned it (or should have known) before they even chose the title of the book. Corporations can't just go around making up product names that they know full well are already registered domain names, and expect to steal the domains right out from under the current owners.
I tried to short it this morning on Vanguard and it got rejected. I guess they ran out of shares to lend.
That's strange because I shorted a few shares yesterday and it worked fine.
I must sheepishly admit that I tried to short before I even saw the article, you can either call me dumb for not looking, or smart for assuming it was FUD without having to look.:)
Well, your rules are pretty short-sighted. The limited potential for gain is not the only factor. What about the likelihood of gain?
If you knew a stock was going to tank, wouldn't you take the lower payoff, knowing your odds of making a profit were far higher than buying a stock and hoping it becomes the next Microsoft?
Our current political system is designed such that there will only be two political parties. As soon as a third one gains some power (thereby taking the majority away from the biggest party), then almost automatically, two parties will merge to take over the majority. It's better to give up some ideals and have some power, rather than maintain your ideals and have no power.
We're screwed. It's a chicken and egg problem. We can't get people into power to fix the system because the system doesn't allow it.

It's not just series 2. All Tivos can use serial cable to connect over PPP.
Unfortunately it opens another can of worms that isn't so enjoyable that being companies who abuse such a system for advertising purposes, modifying the software in such a way to reduce or change its functionality either because of internal decisions or external pressures from 3rd parties, compromise and abuse of the server the company uses to distribute the updates.
This may be one of the most unintelligible run-on sentences I've ever encountered. It's 55 words. Prefer sentence fragment.
One of Apple's best features is that their OS and software have been tested on YOUR exact hardware setup. Why? Because they make all the hardware their software runs on.
You don't have this luxury in the PC world. Not even MS themselves could possibly test with even a good cross section of hardware. Do you think every little software vendor can afford that? Not even close. This is a large part of why things "just work" on the Mac but not the PC. The software knows exactly what hardware to expect.
I just don't see what allure apple's software would have in the PC world. It might be a bit prettier, but it wouldn't be any more reliable.
And they claim to have "duel envelopes". Do they walk ten paces, then turn and fire?
Besides their bad spelling, they don't address some other problems. Like just because the airship is at a height of 13 miles, doesn't mean that's how far it is from your cellphone. That's how far it is from the nearest point on earth. What about the distance to the edge of the coverage area?
Also, won't this technology force far more people's data into the same limited frequency bandwidth? I mean, currently, 2 people on cellphones that are 300 miles from each other can't interfere with each other's available bandwidth, because the signals don't reach that far (and don't need to). But with airships like this one, they will interfere. You'll be wedging 1 million people's traffic into the same frequencies that currently only handle 1000. Can that be done?
In the wired world, more wires equals more bandwidth. In wireless, there's no equivalent, there's only one "air".
How else do you tell otherwise identical cars apart?
It's just like a serial number on any other type of product.
As far as the government knowing the VIN, how else can the government register cars? If there's a dispute over whose car it is, how else can you identify the car? License plates are too easily switched.
I'm all for small government too, but there are too many government constructs that are useless and invade privacy to worry about this one - that has a use and doesn't really invade privacy.
With the CPU ID, we were more worried about losing our anonymity online, which we should have every right to. You don't have the right to be anonymous on public roads. If you want to drive your car on your own roads, you don't need to register it, IIRC. Then no one will know your VIN.
I swear, the only reason people keep pushing for fingerprint ID machines is because they saw them in movies and thought they looked cool.
Imagine if the keyring that you currently keep in your pocket, kept leaving copies of itself on every object you touch. Imagine anyone who found a copy (with a little work) could drive your car away or freely spend your money or walk right in the front door of your locked house.
Now imagine that the worst has happened, that someone has stolen a copy of your keys. Currently, it's rather inconvenient, you must create new keys (and sometimes, locks). Now tell me, how do you change your keys when the key is your right thumb? You can't. Once your key is stolen, you're totally screwed, forever.
Heh. I used to do the opposite - I'd say to some stupid meathead, in a very derogatory tone, "I bet you're literate, aren't you." They'd reply with something along the lines of "No I'm not, YOU are!"
I guess I was assuming that an attacker wouldn't have had a chance to associate sounds with keys (by having access to the keyboard), but in the case of an ATM, they certainly would.
This is never a problem for ATM's to begin with!
When "listening" to a full-keyboard, how can the software possibly know what key makes which sound? All he knows is when the same key is pressed again. I presume he descrambles it using common english words dictionary-style attack. You can't do that with PIN numbers.
Who gets to decide which subjects are "degraded"? You? The Christian Right? Suddenly sites that have anything to do with sex, drugs, or rock and roll are destroyed in the name of "decency". And then it will just continue to erode from there. It's better to allow stuff that's distasteful to almost everyone, than it is to allow the slippery slope of censorship to get a foothold.
Even if the 2nd amendment sunsetted, it would probably still be renewed. Americans want to own guns. A few of them shoot people with them, but the vast majority keep them for sport or self defense.
Assuming you have a cable or DSL setup at home, you can have Tivo connect directly to its servers over the internet via the serial port.
The tivo came with a serial cable, but I made my own because it wasn't long enough. I plugged it into my Linux box's serial port, and set up PPP so that tivo could "see" the internet and do the direct connect. There's a special phone number you have to set tivo to dial to (something like #,211 or something weird like that).
This is all discussed heavily on tivocommunity.com. Search for "serial PPP".

Nope, as soon as I hit the "submit" button, the following page had the overlap problem. Oh Well.
I did find a workaround though. Hit CTRL +, then CTRL -.
You say the bug's gone now, I hope that's the case. I haven't seen it yet, but it usually happened about 50% of the time to begin with.
It's only the biometrics part that's insecure.
Once someone has stolen your biometrics identity once, he can do it for life. You can't change your "password" when its your eyeball or hand.
I use Eclipse 3.0, which is as enormous of a Java GUI you'll ever see. It's as snappy as any other windows app.

It's a PHP web solution, works great.
All that means is that they only affect MS platforms, which is absolutely true.

Just as long as you can tell them where you are.
