You could only do a 'true upgrade' from Windows Vista to Windows 7, so how is this any different? I don't think you could upgrade from Windows ME to XP either. Vista is how old now? It came out in 2006. How many years old will OS X 10.8 allow upgrades from? Snow leopard from 2009.
They aren't saying XP or Vista don't meet the requirements for an upgrade edition, just that you can't do an in place upgrade. Of course you can't, the file structure isn't the same.
This is even better, it means once again you will be able to use the upgrade pricing for clean installs. Good deal!
I can agree with that. I can use Netflix to get Breaking Bad season 1-3 but 4 won't be out until well after season 5 is airing. It isn't on demand, or even reruns.
Politicians need to FEAR the population. We should be able to impeach any one at any time with very little work. If I declare a politician to be corrupt, that should automatically cause an investigation to start... an impartial investigation.
I am a time traveler from the future and where I come from people understand that the internet is a place to get information designed specifically for you by the people you pay taxes to. Other governments are all bad, and we don't dare cross IP borders... especially since they implemented IP v1984 and all networks only have access to their own IP segments and all traffic on said segments route through a connection direct to the government run 'packet enhancer'. It's fun and safe!
It needs to be preinstalled on their computer when they buy it... I would guess 75% of the people who have computers use whatever comes preinstalled because that is what they think their computer is. The concept of 'operating system' is still foreign to most people.
If Linux can be preinstalled with a desktop that looks as nice as the competing Windows and OS X systems, it will start to be mainstream. When they only way to buy a linux baed system is through the business page on Dell or some random Linux Laptop page, most people wont even know it is an option.
As far as it's current state, it should be good for most people. The fact that most documentation online is designed for geeks would hurt the average noob trying to figure stuff out though. The second a person realizes their $15 wal-mart webcam or off brand scanner wont work with it, they will be upset. Not the fault of Linux... but as far as most people are concerned, the stuff should just work by plugging it in and putting the CD in the drive.
My friend has an iPhone 4s and I asked how the battery life was and she said it was good... good meant it was at 50% by noon with low to moderate use. I definitely don't think that is considered good battery life.
I figured the dual core A5 would be worse than the old A4 for battery usage, but it shouldn't be worse than the Tegra 2 in my Atrix.
If you could find something under XP, why can't you find it under 7? They are in the same place, but instead of having it expand right it expands down... fsking easy if you ask me.
I wonder if they will make the corners sharp so Apple doesn't sue them. Apple owns rounded corners combined to touch screens with icons. Well, I guess Windows 8 isn't going to have icons so I wonder if Microsoft was smart enough to copyright rounded corners with square buttons interface.
I used to drive with my knees while stabbing the passenger and getting blood all over the windshield making it impossible to see out of. Sometimes I would take their chopped off hands and put them on the wheel then drive that way... but NEVER WHILE ON A PHONE, that's just dangerous, it could hurt people!
This guy should be banned from using his mobile phone for a year.
"All the hobbyists I know are beavering away on low-budget equipment, half the fun being able to make these puny systems really perform. I'm not sure they'd be happy with everything done for them."
Same now, and why I don't see myself using anything by Apple... I don't want everything done for me.
If a movie comes out in DVD form, it should be out in streaming form at the same time. If they want to eliminate physical DVDs then they also need to allow the streaming only to get the same movies, or else they should charge LESS for streaming since it has a smaller selection.
Why can't they have the DVDs ripped so you can stream the entire contents anyway? Lets say they have it so a certain number of people can check it out at once, and you only have access to that checked out disc, then you return it and check out a new one. It doesn't seem like it should be any different MPAA licensing than sending discs to people as long as they are only being viewed by as many people as they have purchased copies of the disc or licenses, or however they do that.
But is your clock often 3 YEARS wrong? I've found in the past, stuff goes weird when your clock is that wrong. SSL certificates fail on websites for one.
Also, they are using a new motherboard. Even if the clock was reset it should be the current year. My motherboard from last year doesn't default to 2008, it defaults to 2010 when it is reset.

Not forced, coerced would be a better way to describe it.

They are.
What does this mean?
Note: This will be the last story we post today until 6pm EST in protest of SOPA.
Blackout isn't the only method of protest.
Who says we see nothing wrong with this?
I'm using Chrome 16, does that mean the most used single version browser is old or that 'NEWS' story is outdated already?
You cant mod somebody up and then post in the same article!!! Noobs I say!

Sounds like public transportation cuts jobs. If everybody rode in buses or trains, the number of auto mechanics would go down drastically.
Cool, so if anybody has a question about the authenticity of a picture they just need to call up Anonymous Coward with their mad pixel skill.
had to replace incompatible hardware
You had hardware that was incompatible with XP SP2 firewall or am I reading that wrong?
And because the DVD company lost money on sales they never were going to get, now we have an easier way for our constitutional rights to be removed.
If zombies ever really happen, I hope the founding fathers come back to eat the brains of our current leaders!

Actually that is an xml error...
This is a story with a timeline of their logos though:

Random Anonymous Coward isn't coming to the USA? Lucky us.

True... not like Ford or Chevy make Mustangs or Camaros anymore... oh wait.
A hearth attack? Damn, that is bad stuff. It sounds like something from Ghostbusters where inanimate objects are attacking people!
