I think this joke really comes from how military spending is so wasteful partly because if units do not blow their budgets they will get less money to spend next quarter. I have personally seen the citizens' tax dollars used to buy crap that was not needed and never used.
Sadly we never got any silly string, for mines or otherwise.
Stating that a 3D graphics package can do modeling and animation is like stating that the apples you are selling are, in addition to being delicious and juicy, can also be eaten.
The point is that Blender does these things far more efficiently than the "professional" (i.e. bloated) 3DSMAX and Maya. Personally, I would compare it to writing software in MSVC vs vim. Sure, the big software package has lots of bells and whistles, but ultimately if you know what you are doing, you can accomplish so much more work with the streamlined editor.
Why would he install another OS just for taxes? That means at least one additional partition, a couple gigs of wasted hard drive space, and maybe some mucking with boot loaders until it works properly. Plus, your "solution" is certainly no less expensive than doing it on the web.
Personally, I do mine online. It is quick, fairly cheap (I get to do the EZ form), and everything is done for me. Some of those sites out there think they don't support your browser, so I just set Konquerer to identify itself as IE to those sites. Problem solved and page works fine.
The author does admit to his study being the first of its kind. So, in the future I think we can expect to see more depth in similiar papers.
Personally, I found that the introduction was disproportionate to the actual meat of the article where the author discussed each blog. However, it certainly proved his knowledge of how communities interact and his analytical ability in studying them.
I have yet to see a licensed DVD player for any platform that did not flat out suck. Probably because the companies putting this things out spend more time and effort on the license than actually writing quality code. Xine, mplayer, etc beats them all.

I am sorry, but immediately upon opening up that article the whole layout of the site bitch slapped me with one big Microsoft ad. After having read the entire article, I am still recovering..
If only they had given his email address. Then I could send him a message thanking him for supporting something that makes even having an email address a pain in the neck. I remember the days when you could give out your email address on the web (like on your own website!) and you would only get meaningful email. *sigh*
As an Army system admin, I will be happy to see when the benefits of open source and *nix type architecture trickle down to DA. Unfortunately, around here (Fort Benning) it seems that things just keep getting more and more Microsoft-centric.
..is when the mindless masses try to express the problem they are having with their machine:
"My computer is broken."
"My shit is fucked up."
"HELP!"
Yes, these are typical tech support emails I get (in their entirety). Could these people possibly be more specific? Let us not forget that it is almost invariably some small, pathetic problem. For example, I had a user who claimed he was not receiving any email, so I went to check out his computer. Lo and behold, the little plus mark for his email account was not expanded and he could not find his inbox, so therefore he concluded that he was not receiving email.
These things drive me nuts. They keep me from doing such things as redesigning our hideous webpage which has not seen a makeover in at least four years. Please, something useful for once.
Oh no, the phone is ringing again.. Someone's email is "down", someone's computer will not "turn on", someone cannot find solitare. Help them? HELP ME.

Apparently you are unaware of the millions of CS kiddies who cry when the Steam servers go down, but maybe that is not getting huffy either.
As much as I love bittorrent, I am always reminded of a quote I once heard when complaining about nearly the same thing:
"Some people are not communist."
Are you by chance an emacs user? ;x

You have to play this thing in meatspace! And who decided to make friends a system requirement?
..but it is stuck on stopwatch.

..and get well soon! No rush of course! =) As a loyal Slacker, I must thank you for the many years of a solid distro. \m/
Uh.. This guy already stated at the beginning of his post that it was offtopic, does someone really need to waste a mod point on it?
Interesting point though. =)
Yes!! Why, oh why..? Oh the humanity..
Stop posting the same carbon copy garbage and use whatever "talents" you have to do something worthwhile. Either that, or stop breathing. Thanks.
M$ taking a serious stab at internet searching? This will obviously fail when every one search out of five returns:
1 result(s):
0xD734EA7 Unhandled exception
Then the "report this problem to Microsoft" window pops up.
..they want their TCP/IP stack back.

Just thought I would save every other interested party a google and point out the correct link for Everything 2

On the bright side, they get what they deserve!

Sorry. =)
..for the time being. I was just playing some TFC on WON a few hours ago. Why? Because the old version still works quite nicely with wine.
;)
Oh, and the main difference between CS WON & Steam is a riot shield and a few tweaks. You are much better off playing TFC anyway.
