( sorry for repeat, did not mean to post as anon ) I consider myself to be a power user ( been running Ubuntu since dapper, installed and run it on many desktops, laptops, netbooks and even a few servers ), and am a developer by trade. I was highly skeptical at first, ready to switch to Mint when I first heard that Unity was going to be the default, but just like the "window buttons on the left-gate" of the previous version I was willing to give Canonical a chance. I'll admit the first hours were an exercise in frustration, mostly due to having to unlearn many old habits. The one thing I did to alleviate that frustration was to prevent the launcher from auto-hiding. After a couple of days of daily use I realised that it had clicked for me, and now I wouldn't go back. Looking forward to see more possibilities of customisation in the future, but as is, I find that Unity really works.
Beware the pedant brigade...
Although your interpretation is correct, as a French speaker I will add that "fort" has other meanings, including indicating a person
has a large build ("il est assez fort" ~= "he is quite large", but depending on the context it could mean "he is quite strong"). This would be even more appropriate, however the whole joke falls flat because in French a "four" is an oven
Same thing in Belgium. I got mine on launch (1 month pre-order), but my brother-in-law has been trying to get one for over three weeks and can't get his hands on one. BTW, for those who couldn't buy Wii Play at launch, don't get your hopes up, Wii Sports and Rayman are ten times more fun.
This sounds like FUD. I encountered no real problems, and before going from dapper to edgy I was a dist-upgrade virgin. I did have to fiddle a bit with synaptic and update manager to get every last package updated, but the only notable problem I had was fidding the file to modify to force num lock to be on on boot again
As part of an promo from my ISP, I get a few itunes credits every month. I use them at the itunes store form my work PC. But I'm then forced to circumvent the DRM (through the "analog hole", ie with quality loss) to play them on my home ubuntu box and my psp.
So here is someone who purchased from itunes and does see DRM as a problem (those credits are partly paid with my ISP subscription, the offer works because not that many people actually use all the credits, they're time limited)
But some of us actually enjoy expanding this cool little device with things like audio/video streaming (PSPRadio,Pimpstreamer), using the psp a universal remote (iR Shell, iTunesremote, PSPVNC), reading other media file formats than those allowed by Sony (PMP Mod, PSP Media Player). Check the full list here : http://psp-homebrew.eu/listall.php?filter=category Oh and we still purchase games for it too (but no way am I buying a UMD movie...)
Some people prefer fun and playability, but mostly only people who either aren't hardcore gamers or people who have been gaming for over 20 years and have since become very jaded.
I was recently talking to a co-worker of mine who thinks he's an old school hardcore gamer because he has been playing games "Ever since back in the day of the old Playstation 1" as he said. He knows I have all of the systems, and including some obscure old ones from back when, as he says, "not many people really played video games."
Spot on. I consider myself a hardcore and old school gamer (10 hours + of gaming per week, started with "space invaders" and "soccer" on c64 and going on to most major platforms since) but I'll admit being a Nintendo fanboy (Miyamoto's work taught me all the important lessons in life)
Having played eye-toy games with some non-gamers on more than one occasion, as soon as Nintendo released details about the controller I just knew it's going to be the best thing to shorten the divide between non-gamers, casuals and hardcores. I bet even your PS1 friend won't resist once he's tried it out
do you mean people actually prefer playability and fun over pure performance and graphics, and here's me thinking that Sony and Microsoft listened to players opinion's
how the hell can this be modded interesting, do you American's actually think that's even remotely true ? As a european IT worker with less than 20 days off a year I find that kind of remark truly offensive.
yeah, trollmod me to oblivion, but parent was pure flamebait
Cue the yo mama jokes
I agree, crustaceans are actually gross-looking and delicious, but you don't usually eat the external shell
Fast, lean, and syncs seamlessly accross all your devices. That's all you need for a killer app

"if it's free, you are the product"
I also had enough of this sort of bugs, so I gave up on PC gaming, bought an Xbox and have never stopped playing since

"I did not have evil relationships with my visitors..."
or even "No thank you, I'm trying to give them up" (that'll be the obligatory Goon Show reference for the younger ones around here)
